Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

Personally I think 12 months is optimistic. Nevertheless it would be stupid for United to pay £100m for a player that other clubs won't go that high for. Chelsea, PSG and City are the only clubs that could afford that evaluation. Chelsea, given their current level of investment, are unlikely to pursue him. The player wants to come back to England, which rules out PSG. And Pep has openly said they wouldn't sign him back.

Dortmund stuck with their evaluation last summer but I think that was foolish as they wont see that money for him this season. Fans wont be back this season and clubs are suffering because of it. More so Dortmund than us. Paying £100m for a player when you're the only ones in for him and when the selling club isn't in a great financial position is ridiculous. If the club decides to back out of this one i won't blame them - £100m for any player is a lot, especially on a young player where you're buying potential. There have been lots of examples of young players going for big money and failing to live up to the hype (Refer to Demebelle, Pullic or Kai)

I'd rather go for Grealish and Upamecano for that money (and Rice when Pogba goes) before going straight in for Sancho
Defiantly Grealish first but if we had him and Sancho even if he only has an OK season and goes for a better price, then wow that's some midfield. My only fear then would be the ole out brigade claiming its too good a squad for him

I do agree with my initial post one thing (which I incorrectly stated) the fee probably won't be 100M, but I do think that he is worth 100M.

Attackers go for more than other players, do I think one of the best teenagers out there is worth 100M? of course I do, the same with Haaland. As you and others have stated would people pay 100M for him the 'current market' perhaps not, it also depends how many clubs are interested.

My point still remains though, United can't be beat to him, so if they have to offer more, they have to offer more.

Haaland will go for his buyout clause or thereabouts. He will go where he wants to. Not where Dortmund wants to sell him. That’s just the sort of player he is and that’s the just the sort of contract he has.

As for Sancho, I don’t think he’s worth 100 m. He’s a tier below the best of the young lot who will go for that. Because he’s not a proven finished product - and he’s had a dip in form. And football has moved on from taking huge punts on such players in my opinion. And he’s not a teenager by the way. He’s nearing 21. Still young but not freakishly young.

Make no mistake about it. Sancho get his move to a huge club very soon and will tear it up there instead of with us.

My opinion is that he is worth every penny of the figures reported.

I also think with Mata and Lingard probably off this summer, maybe Pogba too and probably next year Matic and Cavani as well. We have some positions to fill.
Could also say the same for Grealish moving to a big club eventually as well, lets face it we would all be very gutted if he ends up signing for Liverpool/City but those concerns are also valid for Sancho too

I’d happily sell Pogba, Lingard, Mata, James, Matic, Jones, Rojo, Romero and Chong just to bring in Sancho AND Grealish which for me would leave us only a pure out and out defensive midfielder away from the title.
Haha no way in a million years can we afford to sign both of them we aren't bankrolled by an oil tycoon

Some people on here seem to think they are playing football manager. There is no way we are signing grealish and sancho in one window, i doubt we would get either. Also Haalands £65m clause isnt activated until 2022 so dortmund would want significantly more than this to sell this year. Those saying otherwise were probably the same ones who were insistent they would sell sancho for way less than their asking price last summer

Is it just me or do these rumours about the united hierarchy thinking they jave dodged a bullet in not paying up for sancho sound quite like the sort of self congratulatory bullshit ed would leak

He has had his chance. United don't come knocking twice. He should have pushed for a move. We're clearly signing young talented right wingers at the moment and Greenwood is doing a decent job so far. I don't see a reason to spend big money on Sancho.

We could sign both in a clearout. Selling Pogba almost pays for Jack himself wothout touching the transfer budget.

However badly I wanted Sancho, I must give some credit to the club in not paying the silly money Dortmund wanted during covid.

We are all very quick to criticise the club for Maguire, seems they have learnt some lessons. We have also seen Werner and havertz struggle to find the same space in the PL.

This is because alot of goals in the Bundesliga come from break aways, hardly do teams sit back with low blocks.

I would still like Sancho at the club but the fee cannot be anymore than £70/80m.

He will have 1 year left on his contract, no crowds in, Dortmund need to sell so we are now in the driving seat.

We were desperate for a RW so Dortmund called all the shots, now we are not as desperate.

Pogba will have a year left on his contract by the summer, we wont get a big transfer fee for him. Villa would want an astronomical fee for grealish

As for players like lingard i doubt we will get anything for them given the wages they are on. People on here have been talking about how much money we could raise from selling lingard, rojo etc for the last year and they are still at the club because no one wants them. Realistically we should let them leave on a free to get there wages off the books

i agree with those saying sancho might not be the best target anymore but do think we badly need a senior right winger. Greenwood hasnt looked particularly upto the job so far this season ajd think he would benefit from learning from some more experienced in that position

He has two years left this summer. Contract runs out in 2023.

To be honest with how Rashford is playing on the RW, I'd struggle to justify more than £60m on Sancho currently who could very well come to the PL and struggle. For England he's the 4th best wide player after Rashford, Sterling and Grealish.

Depending on how the season goes and if Diallo is any good or not, I'd consider just not going for Sancho at all this summer, let him develop at Dortmund next season and then maybe go in the with a lower bid in the summer of 2022 ala Sane when he only has a year left on his contract.

Well thats the same sort of situation Sancho is in. Swap it around, sell Pogba and get Sancho and then spend the budget on Grealish?
Its more than doable imo. But i think we could keep Pogba and get Jack on his own. Pogba got his way after his agents outburst and no club that would want him are in a better position than we are.
I think Paul signs a 3 year wait and see contract. Protect his value and see where we are in 2 seasons.

I think we'll get him, assuming we secure CL football.

I dare say it's probably mostly agreed in principle behind the scenes and negotiations will begin fairly advanced.

Yes true, and just for the record, I would rather have Grealish.

Surely it all depends on the fee? Yes, personal terms were agreed, we all knew that, but the transfer fee was ridiculous really.

I wonder what their "pay it or get lost" price will be this summer? One goal and four assists in the league from 12 matches.

But we still really need a right-winger. It seems to be our eternal blind spot.

Its not, sanchos contract runs until 2023.

Pogbas value is also a lot lower than sanchos because he only wants to move to psg, real or juve and none of them seem to see him as a priority. Sancho still has the potential to be one of the best players in the world and will have significant resale value given his age. Pigba has shown in his time at united he is too inconsistent to be considered on of the best in the world

For his own interests with the England NT a move to United with Rashford on the opposite wing would have been absolutely inch perfect, with a year in advance to prepare for the EUROs. He's struggled to make an impact for England but his club form automatically had him in contention, now he's well down in the pecking order and might have to make do as an impact sub at best.

Depends on the price point. If we're trying to sell him for £80m and Sancho is on the market for £50m it's a very different story.
But Sancho only wants to come back to England, by all reports. Liverpool cant afford him so its us v Chelsea and Chelsea doesnt look much of an option in this moment in time.
Theres a reason people kept saying oh Utd had a free shot last summer. I dont see what changed

True, I forgot about that. If Dortmund want a bidding war then they'll have to drop his value to about £30m.

It's funny that they've looked to sign upcoming English talents to sell on in the future but what they haven't banked on is English players want to come back to the PL in the future, which leaves them with a choice of 3 clubs to sell to, and that's if any of those clubs need said player.

As of right now, we're still in the best position to sign him. But its only January, who knows what position teams will be in come the summer. So much can change.

Dalot and Pereira are on the wage books too, plenty of deadwood to axe still, Ole has done a tremendous job rebuilding!
Completely forgot all about those two, only problem is trusting Woodward and Judge to be able to shift them all in a window or geo

Even if we manage to sell all those players we won’t get more than 60-65 million anyway. Sancho and Grealish would cost around 200 million. We don’t have that kind of money at the moment, plus this would still not solve our DM issue.
We’d get £60-£70 for Pogba alone even with a year on his contract, Chelsea got £100 million for Hazard with a year left on his contract and regardless of just on pitch talent Pogba is far more marketable.

Also as pointed out I forgot Dalot and Pereira too so there’s definitely enough to create funds for Sancho AND Grealish with money saved on wages too, it wouldn’t be easy in the current climate but it’s certainly doable seeing as we’d no doubt employ people far more creative with finance and accounting then either myself or you.

I'd go for a central defender, a defensive midfielder and a striker before Sancho.

Also, much credit to Ole to still make the team competitive without getting Sancho. Put us in a position of strength if we ever come back for him
Right sided forward has been the biggest hole for coming up to a decade and it’s arguable since Ronaldo left in 2009, having someone who’s a natural yet quality right sided attacker would make a world of difference as it’d allow AWB to simply defence but also create space for Fernandes and Rashford seeing as they’re our main threat and teams know if those two are stopped we struggle to create.

Unless we’re selling Martial then I don’t see why we’d need a striker seeing as we’ve got Martial, Greenwood and Cavani all competing for one spot ? I don’t see Ole selling Martial and even though I think Haaland would be an upgrade I think Haaland is Bayern or Real bound next, I’d much rather we bought Sancho and played Greenwood as a striker to alternate and replace Martial with Martial then becoming a good back up.

£60m is a fair price for Sancho imo. I can’t see there will be more clubs in for him even next summer in the current covid market.

Yep. Never made sense to me. German posters were claiming how brilliant it was that they could sell back to money bags English for much more but it does limit their market.
Its like Sane signing for City. He was only ever going to Bayern after that. It was like he was on loan until he was ready.

His skill for his goal yesterday shows what the talent he has.

Nevertheless, in today's market he is not a £100m player. I admit I'm probably being highly naive here but in my eyes he really should have kicked up more of a fuss when Dortmund were clearly making fools of us with their open tactics.

In hindsight, Dortmund are the ones who have missed out this season - not us.

We'll see how things are come Summer. I was very much for Sancho over Grealish in the last window, but come 2021 Summer, I feel I'm leaning more towards Grealish at present.

Probably true at the moment. Pogba has had an uptick in form while Sancho is is on a bad run of form. Also, Pogba will likely be cheaper in price due to his contract length and age, though I suspect will demand higher wages.

While most fans and pundits were losing their minds that is was basically a criminal act that united wouldn't break the British transfer record in the middle of a pandemic for Sancho in the summer, personly I think it was the correct decision.

I think that we were lucky this summer. German league and PL are two different worlds by style of football. Look at Havertz, Keita or Werner for example. In German league attacking players have lots of space and look much better than they are in reality.

Sancho is a good player and maybe he will become great player but at this moment he is 60 mil player at best.

It's not just Germany though, the players that move also have to adjust culturally, you adjust to a new team, new players so it takes time anywhere you go.

Even going from England to any other major league there's an adjustment period, for attacking players players need to learn how you play, what kind of passes you like, the same for a midfielder, suddenly you have to learn your team mates play style and tactically to the team itself.

KDB moved from Germany, Salah moved from Italy yet they both hit the ground running, yet they didn't even get a sniff when they were first in England.

This may have been a masterstroke from the board, I think we should move on from him now but he might go for £50 million in the summer.

Luckily we didn't pay 100m for him, his perfomance this season has been subpar. Not worth a penny more than 50-60m.

We all love United
60M and we have a deal, BVB. Actually i think United will pay 75M for Sancho this summer, in pounds that is. I can't see the club getting Grealish who is very loyal to Villa and Sancho himself wants to come here will help that

He's still young and could easily start performing to a high level again which would again change the narrative. I'm definitely favouring Grealish right now but i'm mindful that Sancho could quite easily start performing to a high level again. But I do think we'll sign one out of the two and both players are graceful on the ball which is always welcome and something I favour.

feck Dortmund. They mishandled the Sancho situation and now are paying for it with a player who clearly isn’t fully committed to them. I hope they get fecked and miss out on a top 4 place.

I’m sure we’ll come back for Sancho because we need an established winger but I doubt any club will be in a position to pay over the odds for him. The dippers will need to sell one of Salah or Mane, which may not be so simple with Madrid and Barca feeling the financial pain of Covid. Chelsea will look to bolster their back 4 and defensive midfield rather than spunk on another attacker. City may be interested but I doubt Sancho comes back to play for Pep meaning it might be only us or PSG with a legitimate chance to sign him next summer.

Nobody is worth that much but in today's market that's what we would have paid for him in the summer. But my guess is BVB is kicking themself now for not taking our offer because his value has probably been cut in half with his performances so far this year. There is still a player in there though...
