This is worse than that. You could argue the referee hadn‘t agreed to start the game again. In this case, they literally didn’t know a basic rule which 99% of sunday league players know. That's what I was asking about in the match thread. Punished for being clever. Remember Scholes and Giggs being punished for similar shrewdness back in the day.
Embarrassing.
Giggs and Rooney. Vidic scored from the corner against Chelsea and it was disallowed. That's what I was asking about in the match thread. Punished for being clever. Remember Scholes and Giggs being punished for similar shrewdness back in the day.

Can't be offside if you're off the pitch surely? It's because he came from off the pitch, isn't it?
Does that overrule the "no offside from a corner"?
I used to think I had a decent grasp of the laws of the game but not for a while now!
Ah, that's the one.Giggs and Rooney. Vidic scored from the corner against Chelsea and it was disallowed.
I think.
Ronaldo scored the disallowed one. Vidic scored the allowed one immediately after though.Giggs and Rooney. Vidic scored from the corner against Chelsea and it was disallowed.
I think.
Wasn't it Inter Milan? With Ronaldo scoring from the retaken corner?Giggs and Rooney. Vidic scored from the corner against Chelsea and it was disallowed.
I think.
If you’re off the pitch, you’re counted as being on the byline. Can't be offside if you're off the pitch surely?
I thought playing it backwards means it's not offside, players can go off the pitch and re-enter unless it's for treatment. Can't be offside if you're off the pitch surely?
When he played the corner the other dude was behind the line, when he received it he was offside. Can't be offside if you're off the pitch surely?
This was my first thought aswell. Surely it's not been called for offside? It's because he came from off the pitch, isn't it?

That’s not a thing. Direction of the ball doesn’t matter for offside.I thought playing it backwards means it's not offside, players can go off the pitch and re-enter unless it's for treatment.
The ref has to give you permission to go off the pitch to be considered off. Otherwise you are considered on the byline when stepping offIt's because he came from off the pitch, isn't it?

you're right, good to know before I ref the game on Sunday! That’s not a thing. Direction of the ball doesn’t matter for offside.
If you’re off the pitch, you’re counted as being on the byline.
I think this is correct. A quick google search suggests rule 11.4 covers it.The ref has to give you permission to go off the pitch to be considered off. Otherwise you are considered on the byline when stepping off
I'm sure you're right. The ref has to give you permission to go off the pitch to be considered off. Otherwise you are considered on the byline when stepping off
Yeah.Is it an actual rule that you can't be offside from a corner?
Well in that case it's awful. I always figured it was one of those where it's just hard for it to happen more than a rule itselfYeah.

There is no offside offence if a player receives the ball directly from:
- a goal kick
- a throw-in
- a corner kick
Directly from a corner, from a goal kick and from a throw in - those are the 3 situations you can't be offside from.Is it an actual rule that you can't be offside from a corner? I always thought it was just one of those things where it's almost impossible but not a rule. They're passing it from the very corner of the pitch and usually there's a defender on the goalpost.. this time there was no defender and the recipient was ahead of the ball, therefore offside?
this corner kick was the most exciting thing to happen in the match…Is every bad refereeing decision in the Euros going to have a dedicated thread where the same things are said over and over?
Maybe a “Euro 2020: Refereeing Decisions” thread in the right forum would be a good idea.
Thought it was against Chelsea?Wasn't it Inter Milan? With Ronaldo scoring from the retaken corner?
I think you’re right he was off the pitch.Yeah, couldn't have been offside. Might have been a foul because he was off the pitch, i dunno. But it couldn't be offside
My thinking too. Don't know how it was advantageous.Bad decision, but what was the point of this move? Why not just pass it directly to Jorginho from the corner?
Against Arsenal. Screamer of a goal too.Unrelated possibly but does anybody else remember Crespo scoring a goal after coming back onto the pitch from beyond the byline? Memory is fuzzy and I'm either googling the wrong thing or it never happened. @duffer may have an idea?
