The fact that you think he’s getting bad press, shows what media you consume, and makes so much sense now.
Grealish is just an affable and likeable fella. No depth. Humble. Unpretentious and probably living the kind of life that 99% of lads growing up would want. Generally it’s the 1% that make it. That’s why his behaviour is loveable and compelling. He’s almost the anti-corporate footballer.
I delight in it. He’s talented, works his dick off, and is enjoying his rewards. Wouldn’t be my mate, but I’d have a cracking holiday with him. He’s Vardy-Esque. There’s NOTHING try hard about him. That’s why he’s loved.

Is it just me or has footballers drinking become less stigmatised in the last couple of years?
I don’t think it’s become any more or less common, but it feels a bit more visible and openly spoken about these days compared to about 3-4 years ago when any drinking during the season was supposedly off limits (appreciate the season is over now, but they were out on the piss after the league win as well)

It’s all media. The people never cared.
My mates were friends with Petit and Pires while they were at Arsenal. Zidane loved a ciggie. There was no money in reporting it. The players in those early Wenger squads were always drinking during the week. None of them got drunk in pubs. But they all drank sensibly.
Few footballers get smashed now. They don’t go out as a group and cause trouble. Nobody is really scrapping in pubs. There are no stories.
Professionalism quelled the booze culture. A few standout drunken sloppy moments becomes entertainment rather than indicative.

Media's doing nothing now to highlight the problem but in 15 years time if things go worse for him everybody's going to be what went wrong and all that bs.

I dislike city as much as the next guy, but i just can't hate Grealish. He's a young lad living his dream and getting hammered with his mates after probably being on a tight leash for 11 months of the year. If it catches up with him towards the end of his career then that's his choice.
I don't dislike him. He plays for City yes, but city is a small club with a big wallet so its all good.

Nah not yet at least. He seems professional when it’s time to play matches. Obviously likes to party on off times but he’s a young lad and I’m sure City keep a check on things.

That’s still a young lad. Perhaps not in terms of football maturity but in terms of being a lad.
Think that is when you will notice it. At the moment he has an incentive to keep himself in shape. Once that is gone he will drink and socialise more, which is fine, if you keep up a fitness regime. If he doesn't he will balloon.

Bit weird that people are excusing the binge drinking of a guy who's been drink driving on at least two occasions, and violated lock down restrictions to get pissed with his mates.

28 is golden age for drinks and partying. I have met lots of mates who are on heavy drinking and partying lifestyle during that age.
I mean professional athletes lead an extremely strict and controlled life compared to most others so the occassional break-out is to be expected. I don't really judge his partying, seems to be an entertaining dude so more power to him. (Except for drunk driving - no excuses here, should have been punished severly). But his choices of clothes and Gucci bags is appaling.
I think you will find things have changed, young people drink less and usually get over it younger. I have 0 criticism of Grealish, I do not think drinking is immature or anything, and I drink myself and I am 36.
My point is that 28 is way past anything immature and we should expect maturity.
28 is not the golden age of drinking, that's crazy.
when you consider how much time and effort is placed by elite sportspeople and teams into marginal gains, and the negative effects of alcohol (especially excessive consumption) it just seems a bit stupid and self defeating.
While I do agree excessive/frequent drinking over nothing is regarded as immature at that age, but I also think any person can get away with heavy drinking once a while, especially those celebrating on one particular event, and especially those enjoying with their life time achievement/significance (ie winning the treble).

So someone I know who works at the PL and a Villa fan says Grealish has always had a drink problem and even been in rehab when at Villa but was said to be an injury
