Yes that's fine, but it was a 25-30m transfer, I meant more like mega deals in the character of Pogba, even Maguire, Neymar and Hazard, in the last few years. All were more or less 100m transfers which imo are more difficult to conclude.
Rooney was a mega transfer at the time. His cost was a bigger chunk of our revenue in 2003/2004 in comparison to what Sancho would be today. Nevertheless we are in a much trickier financial situation right now with Glazers, wages and covid, but still.

The transfer deadline closes at 2300BST next Monday night.
Will Manchester United's attempt to sign Jadon Sancho have reached a successful conclusion by then?
The feeling is United will make another attempt to sign the England winger this week. But Dortmund keep saying the 10 August deadline they put on the deal to go through has passed and they are not interested in selling.
There is still some mileage in this one I think.

I don't know why but reading about that 90 mln i always thought it was 30 mln short, but those 90 mln are in pounds so that is 100 mln € and it looks much better, it was not looking that bad cause no other club recived anything close to that in current covid situation...
until yesterday when City did not do us any favours buying Ruben Dias for almost 80 mln and right now 100 mln for Sancho does not look good when Benfica can get 80 mln for still only promising CB...

Adjusted for inflation in transfer fees, Rooney would've been around £120mill. In terms of % of revenue, higher than what Sancho is today. It was a mega deal.

Without selling anyone of note and with the likely drop in gate money Dortmund will likely lose close to 100m euro's this season. There a selling club at the best of times, they don't make enough money not to be.

No, tomorrow or Weds I think we'll hear something. Deal agreed over the weekend. Confirmed next monday.
I can imagine we send the bid on October 1st (Hence the money spent counted in Quarter 4 accountant book).

Then Sancho streams about him watching our match against Tottenham on Sunday with a “Go, Rashy mate!” kind of post.

This is so on!!!

This cnut just gets sent all over the place. He was in Barcelona for a week when the Messi rumours were circulating. feck him.

Dortmund are keeping their stance as they always will. If this happens, Sancho will be painted as the bad guy.

If sky really thought it was a non starter. Why would he be in Dortmund?

This is the problem - 120 million euros is a very fair price for Sancho. Yes, sure, we’d have like to have paid less but we’d be getting an absolute steal if we did so.

The reality is now though that, unless we do manage to get a bargain, we look like fools whether or not we sign him. We either miss out on one of the best players of his generation as we are trying to underpay or we end up paying a price that’s been known for 2 months at least - meaning we’ve missed out on 2 months of bedding Sancho into the club and giving the impression that all clubs have to do is stick to a figure and we will eventually pay.

If true that 1) We won't bid close to their amount and 2) they intend to hold firm then I think it will rely on a potential 3) sancho to push for the acceptance.

That way they blame sancho etc.

Thanks Adnan but this journalist is a bit useless. At least he admits he has no clue in the tweet

The article is from Rob Dawson doesn't really say too much but does touch on the potential structure of a deal with Dortmund not happy with some of the bonus' proposed.

He was in Portugal in Jan when he reported on Bruno. Free tour, must be a dream job.

I am pretty sure those low numbers in the media are not true. We will pay the 120 Million Euros, but United do not want to look like they bend the knee in front of Dortmund.
So they keep feeding those figures to the press.

Do we have any german speaking United fans on this board who can write out some choice insults in German that we can copy paste?

What is the reddit link?

As far as I can see nothing has changed. The likes of Ornstein and Stone are still reporting that Dortmund have no intention of selling, so why the excitement? Man Utd may well bid for Sancho this week. If Dortmund doesn't want to sell then that's that. All the reports I have seen this morning have lines in them like 'there's a feeling it could happen.' A feeling from who? I have a feeling that I could win the national lottery this week. Doesn't mean its going to happen. I see people claiming that United wouldn't make a bid unless they were sure it'd be accepted. Where is the evidence for this?

Every single journalist says pretty much the same thing: United still trying but not meeting Dortmund's valuation. It's been the only "news" for about a month and a half now.

Token bid to show we tried but in reality just making us look dumb when they refuse it.

One thing is for sure, if they make this bid for Sancho and it gets refused, they have no excuse whatsoever for not signing anyone else. Til now they were basically saying they don't have enough money and we can't make any transfers, so if we make the offer than that throws that theory out the window and we better fecking sign some others. We need reinforcements, desperately, but Sancho feels like a waste of time at the moment.

We'll either get it done at a lower price or utterly embarrass ourselves by trying to lowball Dortmund and being turned away.

I actually think it'll be the former.

Can't see Dortmund lowering their demands considering all thats gone on this summer. There was no need for him to keep going with the whole "sancho stays" line unless they're confident that eventually (most likely next summer) a buyer would be willing to meet their asking price.

Are we absolutely sure Sky aren’t trying to get him to catch Covid? “Get on another plane, Gary. It’ll be fine. What’s the worst that could happen? Lick that self service checkout as well. Go on. Don’t be chicken.”

United would be crazy to have known of the 120m needed for about 3 months and then not be able to find a solution.

Surely, surely, behind the scenes it is just a matter of how they arrange the fee?

They could do something like "70m now, 30m when fans have returned in full capacity for 5 home matches, then a further 20m once fans have returned for 10 home matches."

It's still a guaranteed 120m, but United will be able to pay a lot of it once fans are back and therefore their regular income is back. What's not to like?

I know it wasn't officially released, but its understood we already had a bid of £90m + add ons turned down with the intermediaries. This was reported by a few journalists at the time. If that is the case, the reports of us bidding £90m now are not true. I honestly think we are going to bid 120m Euro with a large chunk now and the remainder next year.

I was back in last night but now I’ve flip flopped out again. There aren’t any major deals to get clicks now so the journos are using this as their money maker until the window closes.
