Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Aside from money, what’s our biggest offering ahead of Barca,Real,City?

People talk on here like if we want him we’ll go out and get him.

What’s the difference between us and Real right now? Other than the fact that we have 5 other top sides in our league and they have 2?

People keep calling Real Madrid in this forum, they are nothing special, and will likely have nothing other than ‘money and a project’ to offer anyone next summer too, similar to what they were offering this summer. The only reason they ‘guarantee’ CL football is because they are in a league with a ‘Big 3’ and 4 CL spots, instead of a ‘Big 6’.

What’s the difference between us and Real right now?

They’re in the Champions League; their manager has managed them to multiple CLs; they have Ramos, Verane, Kroos, Modric, Hazard, Bale, Benzema.
They’re the biggest club in the world; the city they’re based in is cool; they’re the most successful team in Europe.

Aside from that, not much.

The combination of location (vs Euro teams) and playing time (vs English teams) is to United's advantage. That's assuming that he wants to play in England, of course. Then it's City with Bernardo/Mahrez and Liverpool with Salah in his position. United will also likely pay more than Arsenal and Spurs.

From this point of view, United and Chelsea look like the best fit in England. Both with question marks over their managers too. Hard to tell anything for certain of course without knowing his priorities.

They are in the CL by default because of their league. As I’ve said before, if you want ‘guaranteed CL football’, don’t come to the PL at all, as 6 doesn’t go into 4. Also, we are working on the assumption that we will be ‘in the CL’ too for this deal to even be possible anyway.

And half the players you mentioned are finished. They are not much difference to us currently. Finishing 3rd for them is the equivalent of finishing 6th for us. We finished bottom of the mini-league of top teams, they did the same last season, and are odds on to do the same this year. It’s just that due to their weaker competition, bottom of the top teams still gets you into the CL.

Any of the PL top 6 will feel they have a decent chance of beating Real if they faced them. And we have a strong argument for being the ‘biggest club’ too, and as for location, you are speaking of an Englishman, not a fecking Bolivian.

Neither Real or Barca are going to drop the kind of money Dortmund will want on a 20 year old Englishman, it's just not going to happen so if we want him and are willing to pay the money then our competition will only come in the form of other PL sides or maybe Bayern (and that's just due to the Bundesliga link)

Even amongst the English sides, half of the top sides likely wouldn’t pay it either. I could see Liverpool and City being willing/able if he really establishes himself as Europe’s top young player this year, as he could. Spurs wouldn’t go that high, Chelsea would need to spend massively on a centre forward first and foremost, and Arsenal will come with their piggie bank full of sheckles which will be laughed off.

Not even remotely similar..

It is if we make a bid that's accepted all they have to is make the same bid and it's the players choice .

Iv no idea why people are so convinced he would join United before City or any other club such as Chelsea who he is a fan of

He left City because he wanted to prove he could play regular football at a high level for him to come back in the premiership he would want 2 things a first team place and trophies .

City are the much better option for those two things as we stand right now

Zidane could get sacked and a lot of those players are aging.

Don't think him being English factors into whether or not they spunk the money on him. Barca have shown to spend big on a single player as have Real Madrid. In the case of Madrid, they spent a lot on Bale.

Difference is that from Sancho's point of view, he would want guaranteed playing time and that's where Barca and Madrid could be inferior to United. Plus, it's known that they're both after Neymar. Whoever gets Neymar is out of the running for Sancho. That's a fact. Even ignoring that, Barca already have Messi, Griezman, and Dembele. Sancho has no guarantee to start at Barca. Real Madrid is a little more favorable even though they have Hazard, Vinicius, and Jovic. However, they might view Mbappe as the ultimate treasure and if that's the case I can't see them going for Sancho.

Being a fan means nothing. Sterling was a United fan and he went to City. And just because Sancho is good enough for City doesn't mean City can't bench him if he has a slight dip in form. Playing is not a guarantee when you're competing with Sterling, Silva, and Mahrez.

United have no RW. Chelsea is a very attractive option, but they could very likely end up like United of last season where they're out of the CL and thus not in play for Sancho.

At this point I genuinely think our only competition in getting him would be from Chelsea, City have shown with Sanchez, Fred and Maguire that they won't compete with us for a player whereas Chelsea need to spend some serious money now if they have any ambition in being a title contender again. That being said I believe Sancho would pick us over Chelsea

Only way this transfer doesn't happen imo is if we finish without UCL football again

Thing is Chelsea have Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi too, if they sign Sancho one of them’s off.

City can match any bid that comes in for Sancho. Like United could match any bid City make for a player. It's a pretty pointless clause really.

Sancho couldn't wait to get out of City a couple of years ago and nearly joined us then but for City to object and sell him to Dortmund instead. Guardiola also made comments via the media where he basically came across as saying he couldn't care less that he left. I doubt Sancho will go back to City, especially with the way he departed on bad terms. The only way I can see it happening is if Guardiola is no longer the man in charge.

I'm not convinced he'll join us, but I do think we have a chance of signing him. We seem to be building a team with a English core and I think that will appeal to Sancho. And this might sound controversial, but I also think Sancho will want to join a squad where there is a growing mixed/black influence similar to his own back ground. He's good friends with both Rashford and Lingard too.

There we have the magic words. If they didn't have said clause it would still be - you guessed it - the players choice (granted there is an offer on the table Dortmund are willing to accept). So in each situation you are proposing City would have to convince Sancho to join them which means there is virtually no difference whether they have some kind of matching right or whatever. That is precisely where the huge difference to a buyback clause lies: If they had one of those neither Dortmund nor Sancho could have any say in the matter if City wanted to take him back. As things stand they have the same shot at getting him that everybody else has.

Contact his agent in January and do a Pulisic on it. Loan him back until the summer and pay whatever is needed. He’ll be a star.

I doubt Dortmund entertain this officially in January. They will be in a title ‘race’ and probably still in Champions League. He’s their star player. Dortmund sell but they are not quite Ajax.

Not completely pointless though. It has its uses. Sometimes selling clubs ask for more when a certain club bids. This helps in those cases.

even better. Do a Militao. Contact his people and dortmund now. Negotiate. Seal a deal for next summer.
It's not gonna happen like Militao or Pulisic. He's gonna cost at least double of what Pulisic did and more likely there'll be a bidding war. I don't think any club is gonna spend north of 100 million and then loan him back, risking a long term injury.

The best we can hope for is to seal the deal before the Euros( even that carries the risk of long term injury happening in the tournament) but knowing our board it's not likely we can wrap up such a major deal quickly.

Why don't you give us a list of the top English players to go play for Barca and Real in the last 10 years.

Nb. Militao was never loaned back. He was bought out right, with him arriving in the summer when the deal was to be activated. He was simply purchased 6-5 months in advance of the summer window, side stepping any bidding wars

Yeah well that's not gonna happen with Sancho. No chance of any club purchasing him before the season is done.

Why are we getting carried away with this? I would rather see where this season takes us, then decide on who we should and CAN sign.

We sign players on the premise that we will be out of Champions League for one season.. but I fear if we do not get top 4 we wont get these signings.

No chance Sancho even looks at United without Champions League. 1 year is a off year 2 years we can call it a "transformation" but then 3/5 no champions league becomes a trend.

We've needed a right winger for about 6 years now, don't think anything this season will change that.

I agree, but Sancho will only come if we get Champions League and before anyone starts saying have I spoken to him etc.. No I haven't but there will be a few clubs in for him.

What have I said that contradicts this? I was simply stating no one will be able to purchase Sancho or agree a deal for him before the season is done.

Liverpool and City are sadly much, much more exciting teams to join for any prospect, and we should not be surprised when inevitably Sancho leaves for a team other than our own next summer.

Unless we massively outbid other clubs and give him 500kpw, I very much doubt he will come here unless we win the league or something.

Don't set yourselves up for disappointment lads.

Guys like Ornstein have said that we would be Jadon’s first choice if he was to come back to England.

City may go for him if they sold Sane or even Mahrez for that matter? Another theory is when David Silva retires at the end of the season, they may shift Bernardo Silva in the middle which frees up an opportunity on the right? Phil Foden won’t be happy if that ended up being the case! Then again, they don’t normally like to get themselves involved in a bidding war with other clubs (Sanchez, Jorginho, Fred, Maguire, De Ligt). If Dortmund ask for a lot of money which I’m sure they will, I can’t see City willing to battle ourselves and a number of other clubs to sign him. Then again, has he made it perfectly clear that he wouldn’t go back there, no matter if they made a move for him? He didn’t leave on the best of terms and I’m sure Pep mentioned that when they sold him to Dortmund, he wasn’t up for the challenge to compete for a starting spot. Also he wouldn’t be guaranteed game time at City if he was to go there.

Liverpool will only have a chance of getting him if one of their front 3 leave (Salah, Firminio, Mane). How will they fit all 4 players in?

No player ever does that, it’s always just fans jumping to conclusions, just as they concluded Pogba would never return to United.

That said, I’ve never seen a top player, despite their recent ‘relevance’ declare that he wishes to join Manchester City and nobody else. This fear of City in the market is largely hypothetical, and has been for years. There is some fear of what they could do, but we’ve not seen it. Recent history would suggest they should be more afraid of us. From Berbatov to Fred, they don’t really come out on top against us, with the exception of Nasri, and I suspect Arsenal favoured selling him there at that time anyway.

Agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I think you underestimate the power of United and also who we have at the club "mate" wise with the boy. If, and it's obviously a big if, we have a large-ish contingency of young and leading English players at the club (Maguire, AWB, Rashford etc) AND the club have a clear strategic goal AND we get back into CL - I see no reason why he wouldn't want to come when at City he wouldn't be guaranteed a starting place while at United he's exactly what he knows this club needs to get us to compete again with City.

But a lot of "AND's" etc. Right now, just going to try and enjoy the season and see how we get on. Should close this thread until the next summer transfer window really

Unless they sell Salah they won't be signing Sancho. their owners attitude to football is the same as the Glazers.

They've also got a settled first team with 2 fantastic wide players already. Who's going to drop out of those teams?

Sancho also fell out with City/Guardiola and is supposed to have a very poor relationship, so that could leave just Liverpool. Will they splash out 150m? unless they sell Salah I can't see it happening.

are we really going to spend all season discussing which other teams Sancho may go to besides us? talk about an exercise in futility.

He won't join Liverpool. Isn't he a manchester lad ? They also have Salah there.
City is a very likely destination though. Sane or Mahrez will leave and Pep could also leave in couple of years and he could rejoin them.

Well he lived in London before he went to the City academy.

I think people are discounting Chelsea too. They're going to want to spend the Hazard money, and he was a boyhood Chelsea fan.

He and Hodson Odoi could be their first team wingers for ages.

True. We need to get our shit together and put everything on this basket next year.

Agreed. Chelsea would be our biggest rivals for him IMO. Reminds of us going for Hazard. That tipped the scales for what 9 years? This would be similar IMO. It depends on who gets Top 4 probably but it would be interesting if neither of us got top 4 (which is what I think is going to happen).

Have you never heard him speak? Hes as London as they come being born in Camberwell. He was only at City for 2 years, 7 years at Watford.

Don't think they spent £50m on Pulisic for nothing.

If he u-turned on joining us due to the lack of UCL football this season why would he join Chelsea as I assume they'll be without it as well next season?

I do actually think they'll be one of the few other sides in for him though, I just dont think he'd joined them over us
