I believe it was popular in the 80's and 90's here in Scandinavia som that probably fits well. Spelled Joachim or Joakim.

Kinda reminds me of the big man JT. I could see why Jose would be interested. Reads the game very well, decent passing range for a centre half and looks like he’s orchestrating others around him. Will keep an eye on him over this season.

If United buy him, and let Rojo and Jones go, it would leave the team with Mike, Eric, Victor and Axel as the CBs. I dont see why not? If anything, the established CB like Milan should be replacing Mike and not the reserves like Jones.

I don’t get why people say “can’t be worse than we already have” when he definitely could be.

I haven't seen him play since last year, don't know why but I thought he was a Schalke player not a VfB one!

How has he been this year? Suppose his club being bottom isn't a good indicator for a defender.

He is class but the team is really really poor. Really difficult to shine there.

    Need proven quality not potential

We should be aiming for the Inter or Napoli defender unless there is another unearthed gem who come into the team and smash it.

I don't know much about him. Would he adjust to league fast enough? I'm not sure if we can afford signing these type of defenders who are seen as decent prospects but then end up learning on the job. I'd prefer we go for someone established as we already have Lindelof and Bailly doing the learning still. I don't mind if we got this guy of he is that good. But I'll gutted if we don't get at least one of De Light, Skiriniar, De Jong or Koulibaly.

It's not outright common in Denmark but no one would bat an eyelid at someone being named Joachim. They wouldn't think of it as old fashioned, that's for sure.

Do you usually judge people by their names chosen by their parents?

[IMG] Thought he had a good game yesterday and he have really progressed this season. Probably one of the best centrebacks in the world «on the ball».

Its interesting to compare the passing map of him to our centrebacks.

We were good and unlucky against Arsenal. But our CBs rarely offer anything on the ball. Not one pass into the final third. Not one!

If we are going for a young centre back,Andersen is obvious choice.Strong, good on the ball, passing very good.He looks like Vertonghen,Alderweireld type.If he comes with a relatively small fee, sign him up.We should concentrate on building for the future and not signing 28+year old players, meaning Koulibaly(too big fee). There will be no success with that type of bussiness because we miss so much quality in other positions and if you sign Koulibaly for example he will become few years older till we make a competitive team capable of winnig something and then you will need to buy again a centre back.No logic at all.

Last I saw of the rumours were that Spurs were closer to a deal than anyone else. The more I see of him, the more I like and think he could do well here but it's gone quiet on the rumour front for us. Especially when it looks highly unlikely that we'll be brinigng De Ligt in, then this guy looks to be the better option outside of the seriously expensive and more senior options.

We could probably have Andersen and Toby for less than De Ligt or Koulibaly.

I’d rather have De Ligt who has undisputed world class potential than buying two CBs. Quality over quantity anytime.

I prefer quality iver quantity too. But I also know that Barca will get De Ligt. Bringing in a player proven in a tougher league, like Serie A, and adding some experience in Toby, could be a sensible solution then.

That’s a sensible thinking I agree, but if we don’t get De Ligt i’d rather we try for Skriniar who I feel is more proven than Andersen.

Would Inter sell Skriniar though? Because if not then its a moot point.

Even if they did want to sell, would we want to pair him up with Lindelof due to both players lacking pace? I personally don't want Skriniar due to him being slow.

Guy is vastly overrated on the Caf. Would get exposed terribly playing for United. He’s in the best league for his strengths

I doubt that Inter would want to sell one of their better players, but we should try.

And Andersen is faster? I'm not even sure Lindelof is good enough for us to overlook a talent like Skriniar if we can get him.

Skriniar is not even slow, he had good enough pace. He isn't Bailly quick but he is quick for a CB. Also like you said, Skriniar is too good a talent to overlook.

Don't think they will sell him. He is negotiating contract which should be done soon.

It seems a tad strange, as a Dane, that we'd be after a 22 year old that hasn't featured on the national team yet.

Probably a great talent, but should be signed as a talent and loaned out if anything then.

Yeah, the Perisic saga comes to mind. It would be a pain in the ass to negotiate with them.

This 'we need experience' idea is BS. Rio, Stam and Vidic were all in their mid 20s when we got them. Meanwhile vidic (inter) blanc (United) and Bonucci (Milan) proved to be cack

What we need to do is to bring in young CB's to replace the cack and hope we hit gold. We can't spend 100m+ on some 28 year old Cb especially if smalling remains here. That is crazy. We will have to replace them in both in 4 years time

I see your point. At the same time, you have a few very good centrebacks with several games together making them hard to break up. Virgil van Dijk made his debut for Holland at 24. And their options was awful.

There is a lot of talk about pace in here, but in my opinion it is a bit overrated. Not one of the centrebacks at City is fast (Kompany used to be). The centrebacks at Juve or Atletico Madrid is not very fast either. If they know how to play, it is not a big issue. It is almost better to have a "slow" defender, who knows how to adapt, facing a fast attacker, than a defender who usually is able to make up for bad positioning through his pace.

Good points. I like the defenders of the Rio mould better too. Understanding, delegating and able to pass. We need a good brain, albeit I think Smalling thinks better defensively than Lindelof.

Andersen seems to have a good hight. In the Premier League I think height or at least being very aggressive if you're not is important.

I rate him as a good talent as well and would be my top 3 choice for the summer but Inter are a problem. I admit I haven't seen Andersen play, just highlights so not sure how he would fit in.

Good chance Icardi might leave, so selling Skriniar is a strict no for them. Looks like he is happy at Inter too.

Yeah if 29 year old perisic priced us out of a move then how is 24 year old skriniar going to pan out? I'd be inclined to think not well.

I'd say Andersen is faster, yes. Also I'm not Lindelof's biggest fan either. I'd personally try and sign Koulibaly if we were going for a experienced defender or sign young Milenkovic if we were going for a younger CB.

David Ornstein concluded the BBC 5 Live programme (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00067kc) by telling viewers to keep an eye on Sampdoria CB Joachim Andersen, as it is expected that he'll be making a move to the Premier League this summer. The Ornacle has prophesised! Where we thinking?
