Certainly fits what was reported over the past week or so with us targeting a young defensive midfielder to slowly build under Casemiro.

Looks class - get it done so we're not on here in a few years posting about how we should have signed him when we had the chance.

*joins Brighton on 1 August.

Never heard of him but based on that video alone, I want us to sign him. High energy tackling machine with good on the ball skills. Hard to judge his passing and he looks quite small but if we can get him for a decent fee, that’s exactly the type of signing we should be making.

Doesn't seem like Benfica's style lately to sell an 18 year old kid for 'prospect' prices if they think they can just give him a full season or two in the team and flog him for £80m.

Benfica As interest grows, Benfica will put a 100 million release clause on their newest jewel João Neves. He will sign a new contract after U21 EURO. Neves is being followed by Bayern and Wolves. Rafa is asking for a 10M signing bonus. To renew he is asking for a 3.5M salary. SportingCP will get 8.8M in the transfer of Tiago Tomas, who will sign for 4 years with Wolfsburg. Pote is being eyed by Inter.

No affiliation with dutch football, never happening.
His is currently participating in the euro under 21 championship and his next fixture is England.

I don't know this kid, but if Mainoo, who's regarded as one of our brightest academy prospects, getting maybe crumbs, this boy ain't getting any call up to the senior team.

very true. Probably just fabricating a rumor to link us with him for the upcoming season to raise that price.

Id say we eventually see Mainoo as a box to box 8. He was an attacking player in his earlier youth days. Hopefully he gets a fair shake in preseason and then is either loaned out or given adequate minutes to develop on the fringes in the cups and late on in games or a proper run due to injuries and so on. Either way we still badly need an understudy 6. I personally think we should be looking in the South American market for another slightly crazy/intense player. A really aggressive 6 can set the tone for the rest of the team and deflate the opposition and while I think Casemiro and Martinez have definitely been a step in the right direction on that front, we are still a bit too nice.

How much Neves would be?

They sold 18 year old Sanches to Bayern €35M 7 years ago.

His statistical profile looks quite good on FBref but it feels like we're linked to players like this every summer without anything materialising

I hope our 8/10 options for next season are Bruno, Eriksen, Mount, Mainoo. Then we should get someone as Casemiro understudy. Clear out VDB, Mctominay, Fred.

Sign.

My favourite signings are always when we sign a rookie player bursting with potential.

A player like Mount for example will be better right now, but there's a very obvious ceiling. With a signing like this, he can become whatever.

Yeah cos Benfica will be letting one of their star prospects leave on the cheap.

Would be great though.

We’re suddenly linked to the player when he’s negotiating a new contract.

Hadnt heard of him until a couple of hours ago. Everybody talking of him being a long term understudy to Casemeiro but seen a few people on the net mentioning he has been playing mainly as a number 8, box to box.

Know noting about him and still feel like that from watching youtube videos, possibly one of the most boring I have seen, few nice long passes and lots of coming round the side to nick the ball....he hassnt enough strength to do that in the premiership.

May or may not be a really good player, cant tell from the video, as others have mentioned, Benfica are no mugs though, and interesting he is negotiating a big contract....then gets linked (agents I presume), so no way they let him go cheap anyway.

We had Saliba a couple of days ago who had never heard of, seems the press are desperate to link us with some young guns for clicks

Kinda reminds me of young Carrick. If we can get him for around 15-20M, that would be a shrewd signing. His fbref numbers are pretty good.

The source is hit and miss at best but I literally know nothing about this kid. Is he a legit talent?
Supposedly, but he'll be playing England 21s on Saturday, so I'm going to tune in to see how he does against the likes of Ramsey. He's 18 as well.

would be nice if we could sign one of these nippy portuguese midfielders instead of Wolves for once
