RIP to the only manager I'd ever known at Wimbledon FC until his dicky heart started playing up. He was diagnosed in 2015 with dementia and understandably hadn't really been heard of since. Whatever you thought of the man, he was undeniably of the Premier League's great characters.

I’m surprised he lasted this long. Didn’t he have a fairly major heart issue that led him to leaving Newcastle?

That diagnosis in 2015, I never heard of that. That certainly puts all the gaffes he was making in that brief spell as Newcastle DOF a year before in perspective.
Yeah felt bad when they reported that a few years back, was one of the most hilarious things i remember from that period. (which wasn't much, moyes/lvg era etc)

Proper 90s manager and in fairness did a brilliant job at Wimbledon in that period. The job he did there was very similar to Curbishley at Charlton. They were relegated with Egil Olsen the season after he left.

Him being Newcastle manager now would give endless memes and be a gift for the social media age. I remember him calling N'zogbia "Nsomina" and also Yohan Kebab so he was past it when he went up there which was basically Mike Ashley sticking it up to their fans.

I did hear a while back he had Dementia which is why you didn't hear much about him in the press as a pundit anymore unlike say Big Ron who was doing a podcast a few weeks back.

R.I.P.

RIP.

He was always funny for an interview or comments here and there. Love that one where he just calls the reporter a cnut.

That one was the funniest due to N'zogbia's overreaction, announcing he would no longer play for Newcastle as long as Kinnear was manager.

About that infamous talksport interview he did in 2013 after getting the DoF role at Newcastle where he got the players names wrong.

He was probably suffering from the early stages of dementia then. I say this not because he got the players names wrong (he became the DoF the night before and hadn't met them yet), but because he got nearly everything wrong about what he had previously done as Wimbledon manager when trying to defend himself and his suitability for the new job. I laughed at the time but looking back on it maybe I should have realised something was up with him because although he was a fiery character, he was no idiot.

One of the only managers other than Sir Alex where I’ve wanted to watch their interviews

And I include the Manchester United managers since Sir Alex

To be fair, he was always bad with foreign names. He used to do World Cup and Euros analysis on Irish TV back in the 90s and he'd call Italian forward Francesco Moriero "Moriarty" and French left back Bixente Lizarazu became "Lazaridis" (presumably related to Stan!)

JK It is none of your f**king business. What the f**k are you going to do? You ain't got the balls to be a f**king manager. F**king day off. Do I want your opinion. Do I have to listen to you?
SB No, you can listen to who you want.
JK I had a 24-hour meeting with the entire staff.
SB Joe, you are only here six weeks, you could have done that on Sunday, or Saturday night.
JK No, no, no. I didn't want to do it. I had some other things to do.
SB What? More important things?
JK What are you? My personal secretary? F**k off.
