Fulham are always game-raisers against us too.
I just went to double check that the scouse cnut Danny Murphy has indeed left them for Blackburn. Now he won't come on as a sub in the 80th min and give us multiple scares and almost score.:)

In the last 5 seasons we've amassed 22 points from a possible 30. The last time we dropped points at home to them was way back in the 2003/2004 season when we lost 3-1 at home. Djemba x2 started that game alongside Nicky Butt :p

Heck, the last time Fulham scored a goal at Old Trafford was the season opener in the 2006/2007 season when we won 5-1 and totally destroyed them. One of the best displays I've seen us put in, we were beautiful that day.

Past Results:

2011-2012:
Utd 1 - 0 Fulham
Fulham 0 - 5 Utd

2010-2011:
Utd 2 - 0 Fulham
Fulham 2 - 2 Utd

2009-2010:
Utd 3 - 0 Fulham
Fulham 3 - 0 Utd

2008-2009:
Utd 3 - 0 Fulham
Fulham 2 - 0 Utd

2007-2008:
Utd 2 - 0 Fulham
Fulham 0 - 3 Utd

Let's score four goals in 20 minutes, beat them 5-1, forget that game at Goodison and finish the season like in 2007.

I will sell my soul to the devil for that kind of season and maybe add another polite little request for CL win as well

Edit: Getting back on topic I would be extremely glad to see Evans in the line up tomorrow.

I don't know why I posted this in the Evans thread.

Edit: Oh, I know. RedSky posted the same thing in two threads...

Bigger chance of Evra being moved into the center - and Buttner getting his debut

It would be absolutely ridiculous to move Paddy to CB whilst we have Keane, Wootan and Thorpe as specialist CB in the reserves. I'd even rather see a chance given to Blackett in that position as opposed to moving an attacking LB to CB.

Wootan, from Beijing?

Seriously, though, I don't think it's as obvious as it might seem that Wootton or M. Keane should be preferred. There's a pleasant ease to suggesting a reserve player in his actual position is better than a senior player out of position, but considering SAF seems to look at it quite the opposite I'd suggest it's not that simple.

It really should be that simple as we are talking about a one off game where you have players in their actual position who already train with the first team so should know what its about. They also have a range of senior players to talk them through the game at key points and a midfield in front of them which should do a good job of screening at key points.

The fact is I would not expect Evra to win many aerial challenges against a 6'1 Petric and beleive me it will be within Fulham's tactics to try to isolate Evra against Petric. It would be nice to just to play players in their natural positions.

The CB's i've mentioned have all been at the club long enough to have an understanding of what is required at the highest level.

Forget Michael Keane - there is nothing in his first appearances for first team and U21's that suggests he is anywhere near the form required to play in a league game. He was very poor against Stoke for the U21's - so even if I am a big Michael Keane-fan. He should not be an option

Perhaps their lack of familiarity with the first team tactics, and lack of any real game time with the first team, is the crucial factor for SAF. If Wootton had half a dozen games in the League or FA Cup it might be different.

Personally, my inclination would be to play Wootton as well, I think he would do fine, but I think SAF has good reasons to see it otherwise. Evra will be so familiar with our tactics that he could play in his sleep, and that sort of comfort has a very real advantage, not the least of which is making sure we quickly transition from defense to offense.

Considering that SAF preferred Rafael and Park in CM to fielding youngsters, I'd say you're right. It doesn't mean he was right though.

Players Learn tactics in training and these youngster train with the first team so our tactics shouldn't really be foreign to them. As for Evra being familiar with our tactics of course he is familiar with them in regards to LB but CB is a different kettle of fish.

Also for a player who its been noted has had some pretty poor defensive displays of late in his natural position i'd rather not see him taken from there to a position that nullifies his advantages in attack and saddles him with greater defensive responsibility.

Guardian article claims "Jonny Evans has been passed fit for Michael O'Neill's first two competitive matches in charge of Northern Ireland" but doesn't explain what that means. The only info they really seem to have is that he's been included in the squad, but in case they are right I thought I'd post it. If he really is fit then we may see him against Southampton.

was thinking he may get a hour for the U21 midweek, could probably do with some football behind him before starting in the premiership

If he's fit we should play him at Southampton. Even if not match fit, I'd rather have a CB playing CB than sticking Carrick there.

Yep. A half fit Evans at CB would be better than shoving Carrick in there again. Even if Evans has to come off at some point due to lack of match fitness and Carrick shifts back then, that would be preferable to carrick there again for the whole game.

Looking over my shoulder.

From what I saw, Evans was a class above all and everything else. He is so assured on the ball and intercepts very well. Quite reminiscent of a young Rio, without the pace though. Seemed like he was ready for the first team to me.

Fletcher struggled more, imo - my god is he skinny!

Jonny Evans played through pain in Northern Ireland's defeat by Russia

Jonny Evans admits he was happy to be back on the pitch for Northern Ireland, despite playing through the pain in the World Cup qualifying defeat by Russia.

The Manchester United defender had an ankle operation in the summer and he has yet to appear for his club so far this season.

However, he was thrust straight in to the Northern Ireland side for Friday's 2-0 loss in Russia and played the full 90 minutes, although he required painkillers and a heavy strapping on his ankle to get through.

Evans is now a doubt for Tuesday's qualifier against Luxembourg and the centre-half concedes he expected to be feeling his injury in his first competitive match since the surgery.

"I've only played one reserve game this season after having the surgery in the summer so to be honest, it was just good to get back on the pitch," said Evans.

"But I felt my ankle after about five minutes. It was the same one I had surgery on in the summer but I got a heavier strap put on it and I was able to carry on for the second half.

"I was disappointed I felt pain so quickly in the game but if I'm being honest, I always expected I would feel a little pain - just not that early.

"After a couple of painkillers it did feel a bit better and if anything I felt stronger as the game went on, but like I say, I had a heavier strapping on then."

Evans is expecting a vastly different test when Luxembourg visit Windsor Park and he is hoping Northern Ireland will have more opportunity to attack.

He added: "The really pleasing thing (about the Russia match) is that we all stuck together and that is going to be crucial throughout the campaign.

"On Tuesday I would like to think we will have more of the ball and try to attack Luxembourg more.

"Of course that is always a potential banana skin for us but people will be expecting us to put on a show and get a win.

"We are happy with most of our play in Russia but we know it is a different task on Tuesday and hopefully we will get our campaign at Windsor Park off to the best start."

Can't see Fergie being too pleased. He clearly wasn't fully fit and shouldn't hvae played at all.

Not sure we can rely on Jonny to stay fit by the sounds of it.

Hurry up Smalling.
