Did he? They were still conceding 2 a game for the first month.
Yes. It still wasn't a great defence or anything but muuuuuch better than before, most of the goals they gave up were freak goals, just great shots from their opponents for the most part

Now they're a disaster. I guess it's not just Kane and Son but also Sissoko...he's been playing winks as a DM and he's just not good

He's practically begged his last 2 clubs to give him the job, yet the first sign of a crisis and he reverts back to spoiled child Jose, and causes endless problems until someone either gives him 400 million to spend on transfers, or else sacks him.

Thought ndombele could do that job.
Not a DM. He's great on the ball and going forward, but defensively he's not very good
It looked good for us with Jones and Bailly for a while. He has worked well with non world class defenders before. Granted De gea was a beast then too and Matic helped.
It only lasted half a season before we struggled too.
First season with united he built a great defence. Really great. Then he signed Matic and Lindeloff and the defence fell off a cliff(and De Gea turned in a career season and hid all of that)

It was a bizarre choice both him and Levy made by choosing each other. The only win for Jose int his he still stays in London and if he somehow manages to win even a league cup then he can keep wanking about that. I won't be surprised if Kane says Tata bye bye to spurs and moves on to a new shiny project.

It's almost like one could think that injuries to key players have an impact on the results…..

Apparently he has lost more games than Poch this season for Spurs in all competitions.

He evolved into one, tbh. In his seasons at Porto he had no strikers on the last games of the season. He won the CL without a real striker, same with UEFA Cup.
Didn’t Benny McCarthy start all CL matches apart from the second semi and the final? Edit: Oh sorry you said that bolded thing, didn't notice at first.

He is in trouble, no doubts about it.

Vertonghan is finished, Toby is a fading force and the backups aren’t good enough. He needs new full backs at either side and at least one new option in defensive midfield.

He also needs a backup striker for Kane and a new keeper in a year or two at most.

A lot of others in the squad (Moura, Lamela, Lo Celso), blow hot and cold and are by no means guarantees in their position.

These is a massive amount to do and Levy’s lack of gradual investment and planning over the years with Poch has taken its toll.

The squad should have been refreshed gradually and they didn’t do that.

Now Mourinho finds himself with a tremendously overrated squad that just aren’t the same beast they were 3-4 years ago.

There is too much to do and he walked straight into the trap through desperation and an underestimation of how well Poch had done.

Spurs have a massive re-build.

They need 2 full backs £50m
They need 2 Cb;s £70m
They need a CDM £50m
They need a Striker £ 60m

That's north of £200m investment. Will Levy be able to do it?

Will the likes of Son and Kane stay if the football is so boring?

Matic was good at the start. it was after the City defeat and later Sanchez joining things started to go down.
Still won games near the end, but the football was super negative particular against the smaller sides.

He is not super negative yet at Spurs, but not sure what he is trying to do. They are not getting many good results at all.

If Kane's fit he starts 36 out of 38 league games so doubt they'd spend 60M on a back-up striker. CDM I think they have to move 1 or 2 players first before they can sign anyone.

Kane should have moved before signing that new deal.

No disrespect to Spurs but he would have had his choice of clubs across Europe.

Now Levy will make it so hard for him to move on.
It stank of a lack of ambition to me if I’m being honest.

Having one loyal player in world football is to be admired. He is a Spurs player and so stick with them.

From what I have read and heard about Kane from journalists and media, he is not motivated by trophies.

He could be a brilliant striker but I feel he has to move now when he is in his prime.

The older he gets the slower he will get, less attractive for clubs too.

With Levy in charge, moving players is very difficult. Players like Vertonghen, Rose, Erikson should have been moved along time ago.

Negotiating with Spurs even when they want to sell is hard, almost not worth it.

I am starting to think Spurs are in possibly worse shape than us, in terms of playing personnel and a manager that could turn on them anytime. And they reached the CL final only a year ago!

Mourinho is a weird one for me.

I will always have good memories of the Europa win, the league cup final & even rate him for getting us into the FA Cup final too, with our highest finish post Fergie. All in just over 2 years.

But I feel he forced his sacking by constantly moaning about everything & I lost a lot of respect for him when he started flirting with PSG on one of our rare spells of good form

I find it hard to look back at the EL success without having a slight thought of negativity due to the fact of how we set-up and performed in the final.
Yes we won and we stopped a teenage Ajax side but ,damn , hardly a memorable viewing experience.

They mainly reached champions league final because they had the second best manager in football. They have been in a worse shape than us for awhile. It is now becoming clear what a brilliant job Pochettino did, which doesn’t surprise me one bit. Things will not get better for Spurs unless they bring back a manager like Pochettino or start spending similar to United, City and other big spenders.

Mate, Pochettino is great but i’m not sure if he’s the second best manager in football. Levy also wouldn’t sacked him at that time if he was

The Sevilla game was the turning point for me. Had he just not done that stupid heritage rant, many wouldn't have gone against him.

Your defence was bad right away though. After the first 5 games or so it completely fell off a cliff. But the attack was good and De Gea was a monster and so nobody noticed

As for spurs, the thing is given the situation you'd think Mourinho would focus on building a great defence, since he no longer has the players for an explosive attack. Instead he's doing...i'm not sure what he's doing honestly. Feels a lot like he just gave up on the season to me

I disagree. We barely conceded chances. Pool had nothing vs us and Klopp got very frustrated although a 0-0 was not great for us either. The huddersfield game was bad with Lindelöf having a nightmare debut.

Apart from that game we did concede very few chances up to the Arsenal game. De gea was a monster for that one. Then we messed up vs City and Mourinho started moaning more and things turned for the worse. Confidence was a big factor there. Also injuries had a big effect. Mourinho and Pogba started falling out too. It all turned for the worse, but we still didn't concede that many goals overall.

Yeah you can admire the loyalty but I don’t respect a player who throws away the chance of real success and pushing themselves outside of their comfort zone.

I could understand it more if it was a proper big club like United, Liverpool etc. But Spurs? Really?

He’s an arsenal fan for a start.

Yeah it’s now or never for a big move imo.

Injuries creeping in as well now.

Would be such a waste if he wins nothing at Spurs. Imo he has been good enough to play for any team in world football.

£70m for 2 CBs, who are they signing that's top quality for that much?
