The wheels will slowly start to come off.

The Spurs fans, in their quest for a trophy, will put up with the squalor football when he's getting results - like earlier in the season. Now he's not getting results, patience will wear thin.

He's now even making baffling selections like playing Sissoko as RW, like when he would play Mctominay at CB.

It won't be long.

Watching the game yesterday I had flashbacks of the stuff we used to play under him... say what you will about ole but at least our games are entertaining!

he’s lucky fans aren’t in the stadium otherwise he would have been welcomed by a few boos at FT. While they’re not as still getting results he’ll stick with his approach

I think he will be okay till the League cup final. Win that and he gets another year. Lose that and be out of the top 4 race as well as the same zombie football, then he may well be under severe pressure.

My hope is Spurs play poor football till then, dropping many points but somehow beat City probably on penalties after 120 minutes of parking the bus.

Jose will call it a triumph, Levy will ve happy and Spurs go into another season with Jose tactics.

They really need to win that League Cup or this will be for nothing

Spurs over the years are usually one of the more entertaining sides have gone to the most dour sides in the league
I think he will push for the Europa.

Even though they looked certainties for the top four weeks ago, the fixture pile up will just force him to make decisions on what to prioritise.

Poch played him there too, he has played over 130 games on the right hand side.

I'm so glad I'm not a Spursfan. An absolute unwatchable horrorshow of negative football again in the 2nd half yesterday, and then throw the players under the bus in the PMI.
The funny part is that they knew exactly who and what they were getting. I would argue that winning a cup-trophy every year and consistantly getting top 4s would not make it worth watching this stuff every week, it drains the life out of you. Imagine having Kane, Son, Bale, Alli, Moura, Bergwijn, Lamela, Ndombele and last seasons topscorer in Portugal in your squad and still focus 100% on not conceding.....

The message behind Sissoko playing RW was surely that he doesn’t rate any of those beyond Kane and Son

some players are happy with being at mediocre teams, and becoming legends at the club, not going after trophies.

Gerrard, Kane, Shearer, Le Tissier are all examples of players who could/ should have gone onto clubs that were winning trophies, but stayed.

In fairness when Shearer went to Newcastle they'd just blown the 12 point lead and for a decent chunk of 96/97 they were top or close to it and eventually finished 2nd. All downhill after Keegan left and Shearer had his broken leg so he probably could've moved on around 2000 but Sir Bobby had them back in europe for a few years and they should've won something in that period.

Gerrard won about 7-8 trophies at Liverpool so next to no chance Kane will have that number of honours by time his career is done unless he goes to Man. City and they win the treble and other titles.

Can't dispute Le Tiss, he was just happy being main man at Southampton.

I agree. But all had opportunities to go to bigger clubs at times.

gerrard to Chelsea
Shearer to United

I just don’t know whether Kane had the desire to win trophies, or whether he will be happy with a League Cup and EL medal and stay at Spurs most of his career?

I get they were on the up with Poch was manager, but that contract was either a massive mistake or indication he’s happy playing out his career without competing Year in Year out for trophies.

I'm sure he is wrestling with this decision all the time. There is a certain prestige that comes with being a one club man, and he will go down as a Spurs legend regardless of trophies. However everyone wants some honours to look back on. A Carabao cup won't cut it. Not with his quality.

If we see the Jose situation play out as many of us expect it to they are not only unlikely to win anything with him but also be left with the same sort of squad damage that we suffered. 2 more years of Jose & 2 years of repairs. Kane is done by then.

Personally I think its this summer or bust for him in terms of a move. His stock is still high & he should be coming off of the back of a good Euro Championships. Beyond that, with his age and what Levy will demand for his transfer, I don't see anybody willing to take the risk.

I can just imagine if he wins the league cup he will be so smug when asked if Kane is going to stay now “I gave him a medal, they said Kane has no medals, before me? None, now he has a medal, respect. Respect what I do”

This thread is hilarious.
Spurs do well - One set of fans post various versions of "Told ya so"
Spurs do badly - Another set of fans post various version of "Told ya so"

Give him the best CB pairing in the world, arguably better pairings than any that exist right now, on paper and he would win league titles? How is that a sign of tactics that still work? That's like saying if you put De Bruyne behind Ronaldo with Sane and Sancho on the wings that your tactics work and you will win league titles. If you have better players than everyone else you're more likely to win titles. It doesn't mean your tactics are viable.
Give any half decent team Pepe/Ramos or Terry/Carvalho and they would have a pretty decent chance of winning title too! Give them messi and Ronaldo too just to make sure!

Bar Jurgen Klopp, who is doing well and consistently winning titles without a world class squad?

His best sides were built on a world class CB pairing that allowed him to hold onto leads.

Just like Guardiola needed 1 billion, on top of an already talented squad, to do what he wants to do.

If you think he, for example, would be competing for titles with this Spurs team, I don’t know what to tell you.

Bar jurgen klopp? Very strange example to support your argument considering he only won the league after signing the best defender in the world!

The Liverpool team that has just won the league and champions league isn’t a world class squad? Allison, VVD, Trent, Robertson, Salah, Mane, Fabinho?

The conversation between Kane and Jose was the point where I switched off that Amazon movie they made. Hilarious acting and dialogues.

his greatest achievement!

His tactics still work I think. They just don’t work with Jones/Smalling or Dier/Sanchez.

Give him back Samuel/Lúcio, Terry/Carvalho or Pepe/Ramos, and he would still be winning league titles.

It’s an unpopular opinion because he is nasty and his football is unattractive, but the difference between being able to close out games and not make mistakes is right there.
Then it’s a good job he was allowed to sign Bailly and Lindelöf.

Same, it was just Mou being allowed to big himself up and Kane mumbling in agreement. My boss is Spurs mad and was so disappointed after the doc - as he put it, why have Spurs made a Mourinho documentary featuring Levy?

Poch played him there too, he has played over 130 games on the right hand side.

Hasn't he generally been awful unless playing box to box though? Like he was initially a running joke, although to be fair has redeemed himself in centre mid. So the fact that Poch played him there isn't really a justification of Jose playing him there, as he should've known he's wasted there?

Hes is there to harry and press its what he does. He wasn't exactly a winger he was put there to tuck inside and allow the RB forward.

They have plenty of attackers. Bergwijn, Bale, Lamela, Alli, Vinicius, and Moura were all on the bench and he still chose to start Sissoko on the right. He's just overly defensive. It is what it is.
Those are all good players and you're right, he is waaaaaay too defensive but there's a big gap between the quality of Kane and Son and those players mentioned. Another winger (like what Bale used to be) would make for a fearsome attack, much like his old Real Madrid forward line or United in 08.

People disagree and say he's finished but I don't think they're a million miles away from being a very strong, efficient team (the trade off being they're also ultra boring to watch). Whether his players or the fans want to persist with it is another matter.

I am not defending him. He obviously didn’t get it right at either club (possibly wasn’t given the primary targets, possibly!)

Lindelof and Bailly were clearly not the required standard. To defend leads out like he does, you need a backline that’s imperious. He tends to organize those very well.

Just like Guardiola organizes world class attackers very well.

Nobody is doing it without world class players.

You‘ll never hear the end of it if he wins the league cup. First manager to win a trophy for them in 13 years etc. I for one hope they lose. Their journey to the final is hardly inspiring either. However, no doubt Amazon will have the rights to another documentary and there will be a book and DVD released if they do win it. Weird how quiet it’s gone since they were around the top, briefly.

Chelsea fans told us that he was finished. We laughed, he said he had changed, we believed.

Jose does a Jose.

United fans tell Spurs fans that he’s finished. They all believed, bought into him. Cant see what’s in front of them.

Jose does a Jose.
Two years from now it will be Spurs fans telling Arsenal fans.

I feel very similar.

I know if he wins anything he'll be quick to point sarcastic fingers towards United. Strangely I want him to lose games as much as Liverpool and City. Spurs never bothered me in the past.

Well, if he starts waving the League Cup in our faces, Ole will be forced to wave the league title in his.

Fair enough, though I think you're grodssly underrating the old Jose; there was a hell of a lot more to his first spell at Chelsea than just being able to hang onto narrow leads. The whole side was scarily ruthless and clinical; in attack just as much as defence.

Your point does indicate how much he's failed to move with the times though. There just aren't the likes of Samuel and Terry around these days, and Ramos won't go on for ever. Hoping that he can get away with Dier stepping up by wishing hard enough isn't going to get him very far.

He is principally the same manager which is probably his biggest problem.

Back then his methods were new, he played three in midfield in a league the majority played two and teams in general didn't really press to high or sit too deep which is a happy medium perfect for his setup to destroy teams. It caught the league flat footed.

His issue now is his methods have been well and truly countered. You can nullify his team's by pressing the shit out of them (as he doesn't coach his players to play out from the back with any real pattern) which leads to them clinging on in an attack Vs defense match or just sit back and say "come on then break us down" (as he doesn't coach the integrete attacking patterns needed to consistently conquer a parked bus).

And that's before we add that the standard of coaching has improved ten fold in recent years too.

It's absolutely insane how Real broke him.

He is so obsessed with winning the anti-Cruyff way that he'll sabotage his teams during games.

He is finished as a top manager.

There is nothing redeemable about him anymore as a manager.

He seems to have a real disconnect with modern footballers. In more than one interview he keeps pining for players like John Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Zannetti or Eto who were willing to play through pain thresholds and follow his instructions without complaints while ignoring the fact that those players were from a decade or two ago, he happened to catch them at a stage in their careers where they were willing to make sacrifices to finally win and the fact that they don't come around often. Then he compares the players he has to them only to belittle their confidence.

I don't remember him throwing his own players under a bus until he joined Madrid
That seemed to break him

I agree he hasn't adapted though. Back then defensive structures were key to winning titles like champions League

However the recent champions League winners have all been front foot teams who can out score you.
A lot has changed in 10-15 years

Also the gap between top teams (overall) and mid table teams have looked to have closed
Granted theres maybe one team that runs away with it but not the rest

Didnt he rinse Joe Cole in public? Robben as well?

I think being at Real and not having a dressing room totally behind him messed with his head, to have a group not buy into everything he was selling, and probably people being two faced and sneaky helped turn him into the spiky paranoid shell of a bloke we see now.

Didnt he rinse Joe Cole in public? Robben as well?
Fair enough, but the extent seems to have changed. I dont remember seeing / reading much about him doing it to Inter.

Unless it was a case he wasnt doing it as long as they were winning
But now that you say this, I think Joe Cole scored a winner and was criticised.

Yes this is what would happen. Spurs signed Mou to get a trophy on the mantlepiece simple as that. We did the same. Until Utd it was a guarantee he would win you the league. If it doesnt happen at Spurs I think that will be him done at a big team. No one else will want him and he will either manage England and/or Portugal, then call it a day.

Are you another Utd fan that would rather see City win something rather than Jose? If so, I again can only scratch my head at how bizarre that is.
