If Zirkzee can only play as a false 9 then it's him that needs the strict system. Most managers don't use that type of striker (and it seems to be something even managers who previously did are moving away from), so chances are he won't be much more suitable for another manager who came in and played a different formation.
There are a couple of positions that are fairly specific to Amorim's system (mostly the wingbacks). Striker isn't one of them.
In saying that, I like him and hope he can be useful enough to keep around, albeit I doubt it'll be as a starter.
I totally agree, but Amorim has shown that he has no tactical flexibility at all. This is why he needs players of different skillets because him having 4 Gyokeres strikers when that tactic might not work in a particular game will probably hound his ability to win that game because he can't ask Gyokeres to drop deep, or more likely Gyokeres won't instinctively drop deep.
Garnacho is the same, he isn't a wide attacking midfielder but a much more direct penatrative type player. We can have 4 Cherki's playing with that intensity and passing ability but there will be times when we need to have a more penatrative direct player to take on the line.
CMs is the same. Do we want another 4 versions of Ugarte, or would we like a deep lying playing maker, a box to box, a number 6 ball winner etc. Sure there are players we should be prioritising first because they fit the system the best, but having a squad of versatility shouldn't be underestimated.
Zirkzee give us something quite unique as a forward & it's constantly seen on the pitch where the opposition get easily opened up by his skill creating actions.
The problem is these are currently not leading to anything.
I think a bit of a moot point anyway because Obi so far looks quite far away from being PL standard at his age and will probably need some loans before we even consider him in the mix.
System striker 1, System Striker 2, Zirkzee
System LAM, RAM, Amad, Bruno, Garnacho
System DLP, No 6, Box to box, Mainoo, Bruno
These are kind of the squads I want us to build.
It not only allows us to have flexibility during Amorim's charge, but it stops us having to reshape the whole squad as soon as a new manager comes in.
