Caf not heard of him = he’s shit

The rebuild that lots of people are convinced is imminently necessary at RM is surely at least a year off. It makes sense to wring the last drops out of the existing squad a la Jose at Inter, so a decent international manager who’s used to coping with disparate egos is what they need right now, not a Poch or Klopp type who would insist on everyone doing it Their Way.

That said, it would indeed be hilarious if Spain flop at the WC. A shame LvG isn’t managing Portugal...

Amazed at many on here not knowing who he was. He's been Spain's manager for two years now.

Did people think Del Bosque was still in charge?!

The same ones who still seem to think Real Madrid needs a massive rebuild, because you know the squad is aging and all that. :p

the radio confirms that Madrid players knew it and apparently the president of Spanish federation feels betrayed and even thought about sacking Lopetegui.
Some weeks ago there were elections and Lopetegui was closer to the other candidate, Larrea, who lost and wasn´t 100% comfortable with the new one
And of course the salary, he was earning 1.5m and now will be in 6.
Hopefully this won´t affect to the team in the world cup, although there are periodists saying that he should resign

So he negotiated a contract with Real Madrid while preparing Spain for the World Cup? Talk about dedication and leadership quality.

Doesn't sound good. The only way he can get out of all of this without criticism is to win the World Cup really!

Imagine that now we are a big disappointment in the world Cup,with press and fans against him,to start training Madrid some weeks later
Was going to say, if Spain wins the world cup then all the Spanish players in Real's squad will be well pleased next season, spirit might help getting the best out of the stars for another year. But it is a big risk to appoint him now yes:lol:

Personally i don't think age is an issue, but i do think we squeezed this team dry and need a rebuild. I don't expect this team to be able to find the motivation to beat barcelona to the title, and we've had more than our fair share of luck in CL last 3 years, don't expect it to hold next season

Will he build a tower in the middle of the training ground like he did at Porto?

Don't think there was as much negociation as Florentino telling him which page to sign.

I know where you want to get, but if you read the consensus here it isn't related with those factors you mentioned. Expect maybe improved performances from players like Isco, Asensio, Vazquez, but don't know if he is flexible enough to adapt to different situations.

Anyway when you are Spanish, working in Spain and with much better human resources available I don't know if it's important, where I can see him failing is on some individual relations with foreign players, the Spanish players or Casimiro will accept him well.

Italy won World Cup 2006 with the Calciopoli scandal hitting the country i'm sure we will be fine.

Glastonspurs is shedding tears of relief.

I think Julen has his work cut out for him. What I find funny is his veiled threat at Bale to give his all on the pitch, but Ronnie seems to get away with it. Will Julen be remembered the man who axed CR7.

Now that would be interesting to see.

Fecking sign Thiago Alcantara. That's where i'm getting mostly :D

Casemiro apparently was among his sponsors so there should be no problem

What is the big deal? International managers move on to clubs after almost every tournament.
Think it is the timing. Real were likely not going to announce it yet, but someone in that camp has leaked it. The fact he is Real's manager, touted to Perez by the Real players, might cause some problems with other teams players if they think he is showing favouritism towards Real players.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. What will be the reaction of Barca players now ? They will all be wary of him. Spain were my favourites, not anymore

Makes a change that it isn't England World Cup chances being de-railed by something or other. The timing is terrible.

Rumours that Spain are considering sacking him?
They have a press conference in about 45 minutes. Rumour has it they are going to announce his sacking there.

Does this mean Bale will move now? I guess its neither a sign he will stay or move but maybe he will prefer Isco to Bale being the national team coach and Isco getting a fair crack at that?

Never really gave it any thought. International football pretty much ceases to exist in between big tournaments for me.

If that happens I feel Spanish players will do their best to back him at Real Madrid.

Win-win situation from my egocentric point of view :D

Lopetegui seems to get the boot from coaching Spain just before WC, because Real. Unreal really. Who are they gonna call? Ghostbusters?

It's more about the club being Real Madrid rather than the timing. Before the Euros semifinals vs Russia in 2008 Luis Aragones announced he was signing for Fenerbahce after the tournament and nobody cared about it.

Yes, that's obviously the problem here. Didn't Bobby Robson do the same with PSV?

I think Spain's players are so used to their system, it's so natural for them to play the way they do that a potential sacking of their coach wouldn't make that big a difference as it would for other countries, but this is still something you'd want to avoid on the eve before the WC starts.
