They did it on the overlap the other day, so who would you keep, ditch or last chance. Hopefully everyone comes in like Billy big bollocks and says ditch everyone.

Eric ten Hag - last chance: he's not had great luck and the club's a mess but some of his decisiona regarding tactics and transfers have not helped.

1 Altay Bayindir (G) - Keep: can't really pass judgement on him

22Tom Heaton (G) - Keep: he seems to be there more in a non-playing role

24Andre Onana (G) - last chance: let's see if he can turn it around

2Victor Lindelof (D) - ditch: Hasn't been up to scratch

5Harry Maguire (D) - ditch: having a good season but there's too much bad history with him

6Lisandro Martinez (D) - keep: would be important in a ball playing team

12Tyrell Malacia (D) - ditch: he doesn't seem like someone who would take the LB space

15Sergio Reguilon (D) - ditch: ok as a stop-Gap but not much more

19Raphael Varane (D) - last chance: was great last season and should get one final shot

20Diogo Dalot (D) - last chance

Out of the signings made in our latest rebuild, I’d only want to keep Martinez and Casemiro, the rest you can ditch. Outside of that it’s basically Bruno, Shaw sometimes and a few of the kids, I could care less about the rest of them.

10Marcus Rashford (F) - last chance

11Rasmus Hojlund (F) - keep

16Amad Diallo (F) - keep/last chance

25Jadon Sancho (F) - ditch
Eric ten Hag - last chance: voted him out in the "Sack or Keep" thread, but on the premise that I'd do it at the end of the season...so on that basis I'll give him until then to see if he can show enough to be worth persisting with.

5Harry Maguire (D) - keep: good professional, entering later stages of his career, resale value declining, keep as a backup

6Lisandro Martinez (D) - keep: would be important in a ball playing team

12Tyrell Malacia (D) - keep: good professional, will do as a backup

15Sergio Reguilon (D) - ditch: ok as a stop-gap but not much more

19Raphael Varane (D) - ditch: underwhelmed and wrong profile (latter stages of career, downward trajectory)

20Diogo Dalot (D) - ditch: rubbish and lazy

23Luke Shaw (D) - keep

29Aaron Wan-Bissaka (D) - last chance

35Jonny Evans (D) - Ditch - he's been a great servant but he's not one for the future

Daniel Gore (M) - keep

Isak Hansen-Aaroen (M) - keep

Hannibal Mejbri (M) - keep

4Sofyan Amrabat (M) - last chance: ok as a squad player

7Mason Mount (M) - keep: too early to judge, has qualities

8Bruno Fernandes (M) - keep

14Christian Eriksen (M) - ditch: I think he's out of contract end of next season

17Alejandro Garnacho (M) - keep

18Casemiro (M) - ditch: wrong profile, see Varane

21Antony (M) - last chance

28Facundo Pellistri (M) - ditch

34Donny van de Beek (M) - ditch

37Kobbie Mainoo (M) - keep

39Scott McTominay (M) - ditch, but only because he's not a good fit for us but would be of value to other teams and can be used to raise funds

NAShola Shoretire (F) - ditch

9Anthony Martial (F) - ditch

10Marcus Rashford (F) - ditch: don't rate him as a player, compounds this with shocking attitude, has resale value, move on, would be best for all parties.

11Rasmus Hojlund (F) - keep

16Amad Diallo (F) - keep/last chance

25Jadon Sancho (F) - ditch

Very few I would keep with the idea they'd be automatic starters. For instance, I'd keep Bruno but he'd not be first name on the sheet for me. I'd rather we replace him. He's a square peg in a round hole these days and is so inconsistent it's affecting the rest of the lineup because he HAS to be the first name on the sheet. Ideally, we'd have a complete squad turnover in 3 windows but that's a big ask.

As far as ETH goes, I'm losing patience with him. He's been dealt a shitty hand with injuries this season but even last season was not very convincing. His signings have been extremely underwhelming to say the least.
Unless we fix some areas in January or the new football hierarchy comes in and sets things straight, I'd give ETH until the end of the season or until we're mathematically out of top 4.

Eric Ten Hag - ditch (I've lost hope)

1 Altay Bayindir (G) - keep (backup who cares)

22Tom Heaton (G) - ditch - he's gonna retire I assume but otherwise no big deal

24Andre Onana (G) - last chance (decide summer 2025)

2Victor Lindelof (D) - keep (backup CB solid enough)

5Harry Maguire (D) - ditch (not right type)

6Lisandro Martinez (D) - keep

12Tyrell Malacia (D) - keep (backup LB)

15Sergio Reguilon (D) - ditch (loan)

19Raphael Varane (D) - ditch

20Diogo Dalot (D) - keep

23Luke Shaw (D) - keep

29Aaron Wan-Bissaka (D) - last chance (summer 2025 replace and move dalot to backup ideally)

35Jonny Evans (D) - is there a point in judging

NADaniel Gore (M) - too young to judge

NAIsak Hansen-Aaroen (M) - too young to judge

NAHannibal Mejbri (M) - ditch (don't see it)

4Sofyan Amrabat (M) - ditch (not good enough)

7Mason Mount (M) - ditch (summer 2025 - what's the point being an expensive backup to Bruno)

8Bruno Fernandes (M) - keep

14Christian Eriksen (M) - last chance (summer 2025, he's been fine but is aging so won't be here much longer even in squad role)

17Alejandro Garnacho (M) - keep

18Casemiro (M) - ditch (due to where we are as a squad and not his current level, take the money and rebuild)

21Antony (M) - ditch

28Facundo Pellistri (M) - ditch

34Donny van de Beek (M) - ditch

37Kobbie Mainoo (M) - keep

39Scott McTominay (M) - ditch

NAShola Shoretire (F) - too young

9Anthony Martial (F) ditch

10Marcus Rashford (F) - last chance (what's his role if Garnacho is LW?)

11Rasmus Hojlund (F) - keep

16Amad Diallo (F) - last chance (eventually he's going to need to play, summer 2025)

25Jadon Sancho (F) - ditch

Onana
Altay

Dalot - ?? - Martinez - Shaw
AWB - Lindelof - ?? - Malacia

?? - ??
Mainoo - Eriksen

?? - Bruno - Garnacho
Amad - Mount - Rashford

Hojlund
??
How I see it until summer 2025. Casemiro can be fine in the deep 2, but we can probably get better money for him and replace with a long term starter. Antony has shown signs of life but similarly to Mount, on too much money and fee was too high to be just a backup as I don't think he's good enough to be more than a squad player.

GK: Onana.
Defenders: Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw.
Midfielder: None.
Forwards: Hojlund, Garnacho.
Also, whoever else is 21 and under.

I'd bin all the rest without a second thought. Either too old, too inconsistent, not the right mentality, or any combination of those.

The only ones I’d keep are Hojlund, Garnacho, Mainoo, Shaw, Diallo. Martinez would keep only if his foot is completely healed. Would happily ditch the rest. I lay a ton of blame on Ten Hag but I’m also of the opinion that it’s been far overdue for a true for a fire sale/clean out of familiar names.

from looking at the squad, there are some players i’d keep, some i’d ditch and i have to say, some would be on their last chance.

Only players I'd keep is the youngsters

Garnacho
Hojlund
Mainoo

The rest can feck off, sold, moved on, i honestly wont miss them.

my thoughts exactly but I’d add Lisandro and maybe Hannibal in there, it’s bad when there’s literally 5 players I actually like at the club. Everyone else could leave tomorrow and I wouldn’t care in the slightest Because I don’t even like them.

A new manager would love to have Martinez, Shaw, Mainoo, and Garnacho.

Then there are some promising youngsters like Hojllund, Gore, Diallo. I don't see why anyone would ship them out.

Then you have players like Onana or Mount who've been here a mere 5 months,
and while it's very very tempting to call them shit signings (I do it all the time tbh), one should wait a bit longer for that.

then, ideally, I'd have liked to ship out everyone else.

Bruno, Casemiro, Varane, Eriksen... our main men. Erratic/old/injury prone.
Rashford also needs to go somewhere else, he looks uninterested and plays like someone who has nothing to prove.

the rest are anywhere between mediocre to very bad.

Erik Ten Hag - DITCH: not only is he truly shambolic in the most important aspects such as tactics, signings and squad morale, but he is also too stubborn to correct what has clearly not been working. He should have been gone after the two consecutive 3-0 losses at home. Woefully incompetent and a true disappointment.

1 Altay Bayindir (G) - N/A never seen him play

22 Tom Heaton (G) - Keep: experienced head, Carrington product, by all accounts a popular dressing room figure.

24 Andre Onana (G) - Last chance: too many issues that can’t be coached out of him and what he offers on the ball isn’t enough to compensate for that.

2 Victor Lindelof (D) - Last chance: decent back-up CB and good on the ball but should be replaced by somebody with the same traits but younger.

5 Harry Maguire (D) - Ditch: too cumbersome on the ball, too slow and can’t defend wide positions or open spaces. People are being fooled into thinking he’s playing well simply because he’s not dropping the clangers we’re used to. He still makes a range of smaller mistakes that the untrained eye can’t spot on a regular basis such as failing to show for the ball in build-up and retreating into his box to cede space out wide and centrally.

6 Lisandro Martinez (D) - Keep: incredible player.

12 Tyrell Malacia (D) - Keep: reliable and tactically intelligent player.

15 Sergio Reguilon (D) - Ditch: although he’s been one of our best players it is an indictment of how poor we’ve been. 3 left-backs is too many though.

19 Raphael Varane (D) - Keep: Champions League Varane. Feel that he’s getting scapegoated for our poor build-up structure. The fact that Ten Hag considers Maguire, Lindelof and Evans better than him is on the list of crimes against us.

20 Diogo Dalot (D) - Keep: Underrated player.

23 Luke Shaw (D) - Keep

29 Aaron Wan-Bissaka (D) - Keep: his recovery speed and ability on one-on-ones are world-class traits alone that compensate for many other deficiencies.

35 Jonny Evans (D) - Ditch: Love Jonny, should never have been sold back in 2014, but this was a comical signing.

46 Hannibal Mejbri (M) - Keep: very talented and hardworking player, needs a run of games. His goal against Brighton showcased his quality.

4 Sofyan Amrabat (M) - Keep: good versatile and intelligent player with a good technical base. He’s being failed by the manager’s system that has the DM isolated both on and off the ball. People are getting a false image of his quality.

7 Mason Mount (M) - Last chance: decent player but we should never have signed him. We needed someone who can play second-phase.

8 Bruno Fernandes (M) - Last chance: the Bruno we had in the Ole days is different to the Bruno we have now. A different (worse) player since he took the number 8. Goals and assists mask a lot of deficiencies in his game. Can’t dribble, not great in tight spaces. We can’t play sustainable possession-ball with Bruno as our main man. He also can’t play anywhere else other than as a 10 between the lines.

14 Christian Eriksen (M) - Ditch: physically finished.

17 Alejandro Garnacho (M) - Keep

18 Casemiro (M) - Keep: give him some protection and you may see a different player. Still, he has to be phased out / rotated more due to his age.

21Antony (M) - Ditch: offers nothing.

28Facundo Pellistri (M) - Ditch: works hard but lacks technical quality.

34Donny van de Beek (M) - Ditch: good player but needs a new environment.

37Kobbie Mainoo (M) - Keep:

39Scott McTominay (M) - Keep: despite the flaws in his game he is an incredible player to have in your squad. He’s a solid DM and an amazing raumdeuter. Physical attributes are incredible, used to drive us forward at times in the Ole era and always works hard. Top mentality also.

9 Anthony Martial (F) ditch: amazing player but too many injuries.

10 Marcus Rashford (F) - keep: has credit in the bank for showing how amazing he can be in the right environment. Despite his limitations in terms of football IQ, too many knee-jerk reactions callling for him to go. You forget Rashford’s big game record.

11 Rasmus Hojlund (F) - N/A (needs a chance in a function environment where chances are being created).

16 Amad Diallo (F) - Keep: technically amazing player with unreal football IQ. Weight of pass is sensation and has a great shot without back lift. Looking forward to his return.

25 Jadon Sancho (F) - Last chance: have to take a look at him in a posession-based team where he has runners around him.

Out of the signings made in our latest rebuild, I’d only want to keep Martinez and Casemiro, the rest you can ditch. Outside of that it’s basically Bruno, Shaw sometimes and a few of the kids, I could care less about the rest of them.
 you’d sell Hojlund already?

Goalkeepers

Onana
- Last Chance
Bayindir - Keep
Heaton - Keep

Unless we're willing to act decisively and accept a significant loss on Onana, you'd think he's here to stay for at least one more season. Hopefully we can make improvements in possession and build-up play, as Martinez returns and Mainoo continues his emergence in midfield, which will benefit Onana's style. His goalkeeping fundamentals (or lack thereof) put him firmly in the 'Last Chance' saloon though.

The two back-ups are fine and seem pointless to change at this point.

Defenders

Dalot
- Last Chance
Wan-Bissaka - Ditch
Varane - Ditch
Maguire - Ditch
Lindelof - Last Chance
Martinez - Keep
Evans - Ditch
Shaw - Keep
Malacia - Last Chance
Reguilon - Ditch

Though I much prefer Wan-Bissaka, neither him nor Dalot are good enough to be starting for us and, out of the two, I believe Dalot is more suited to the back-up role, given he's more versatile. If you wanted to switch him and Wan-Bisska as 'Ditch' and 'Last Chance', I'd be perfectly okay with that, as long as an undisputed first-choice is brought in in one of their places. Frimpong has been linked as an option, though he would require a system which promoted his attacking abilities, and limited the onus on him to defend; the type which has allowed him to thrive at Bayer Leverkusen this season

Similar level of apathy at left-back, where Luke Shaw is the obvious first-choice, but neither Malacia nor Reguilon have been overly impressive in his place. I'd be content ditching both while potentially bringing back Alvaro Fernandez as the back-up, but this may be asking too much of the youngster. If Malacia stayed for one more season, or another cheap loan deal was agreed for Reguilon, I'd be apathetically fine with that instead.

Centre-back is the area of defence where the most change is needed. The shift away from the pairing of Varane and Martinez (for differing reasons) has been one component of our fragility this season, and if the Frenchman is deemed too injury prone/tactically unsuitable, he should be sold (hopefully to Saudi for big bucks) with someone like Todibo signed in his place. Equally, while Maguire's turnaround has been impressive and is a testament to his mental resilience, he's still not at the requisite level, nor will he ever be. He should be sold with Branthwaite brought in as a replacement, though this seems unfeasible financially. Lindelof survives as a fourth-choice centre-back out of necessity, not from any belief in his abilities. Evans' swan song comes to an obvious end.

Midfielders

Casemiro
- Last Chance
Amrabat - Ditch
Mainoo - Keep
Eriksen - Last Chance
McTominay - Ditch
Mount - Keep
Fernandes - Keep
Hannibal - Keep
Van de Beek - Ditch

Amrabat and McTominay (despite the goals) are not good enough. End Amrabat's loan in the summer and sell McTominay to a Premier League team for big bucks, where his academy status constitutes a FFP goldmine. Van de Beek is irrelevant and should be treated as such. A defensively strong number eight is needed in their place.

Mainoo is the long-term solution in midfield but we're so desperately short on quality that his time has come much earlier than ideally. Hannibal offers enthusiam and energy, and is a good squad option with home-grown status and low wages. While the critiques of Fernandes have merit, I still find it odd people want to prioritise changing him, rather than seeing what he looks like alongside actual competent midfielders - keep. Mount, at a bare minimum, will be a good squad player, though it remains a mystery whether he will be able to become more than this. He was the wrong signing in the summer given his profile and price, but a football team is more than eleven players.

Casemiro and Eriksen are in the 'Last Chance' category due to their performances this season, though I feel they both have far more still to offer in a better, more balanced system than whatever shitshow we have been attempting in midfield this season. I would like to see how Casemiro performs with someone like Mainoo next to him, while Eriksen still retains enough technical ability and intelligence to be a good option from the bench.

Forwards

Antony
- Last Chance
Sancho - Ditch
Pellistri - Ditch
Amad - Keep
Rashford - Keep
Garnacho - Keep
Martial - Ditch
Hojlund - Keep

Sancho and Martial need to go and neither require any further analysis than that. Hojlund is raw though the potential is obvious; he needs a more experienced deputy to relieve the pressure on him, however.

On the right, Antony has shown glimmers in the last few games while I believe Amad's performances last season offer enough hope he can stake a claim in the squad by the summer. Antony feels in a similar category to Onana, where it appears an obvious error but not one we can fix immediately; if the team can make improvements on the ball, perhaps he will improve in a comparable way to Onana given their skillsets. Whoever we play as the RW we'll undoubtedly get a boost from a quality new RB also; maybe even Mount in the right system. Sell Pellistri for his own sake as much as the team's.

Garnacho falls into the same space as Mainoo, easy decision. It's less simple for Rashford with his inability to provide a decent base level of performance, combined with his obvious mental fragility, meaning he's a shadow of the player who returned from the World Cup last season. Given the plethora of holes in the squad, however, it feels like we're reliant upon getting Rashford firing again to have any sort of hope in the short-term.

Starting XI

The 3-1-6 system is midfield suicide and leaves a structural imbalance that I don't believe any amount of money will make work. Even if there were the right players, I wouldn't trust Ten Hag to be able to identify them anyways.

A 3-2-5 set-up, as used by City and Arsenal (devised in slightly different ways), feels much more balanced and offers more flexibility in terms of how you can formulate the system. Given whoever we play on the right-wing will like to come inside and link play, I think we should utilise the offensive overload by simply having our right-back play almost as a winger. This might even offer an entry into the team for Mount who could start nominally on the right, but drift inwards with the right-back overlapping outside him. It would then allow a more stable midfield pivot to sit in front of a three-man defence.

With that in mind, two players who we've been consistenly linked with - Todibo and Frimpong - would work well in this set-up I think.

Onana
Todibo - Martinez - Shaw
Mainoo - Casemiro
Frimpong - Mount - Fernandes - Rashford
Hojlund
Far from an ideal XI I know, given the reliance upon players who have been well short of the required standard this season, but one which I feel is much closer to a balanced team than the current iteration, which should help these players regain the form they've either shown in a United shirt before (Casemiro, Rashford) or regain the form which made us buy them in the first place (Onana, Mount, Hojlund).
