He doesn't own JD Sports.Anyone who owns those big sports stores is a right prick
Except it doesn't...Maybe the penny has dropped re Woodward. Getting him 'help' basically means he cannot be trusted to do his job.
If my place of work now got me some 'help' it would mean either they think the job is too big for one person (which surely i would have brought up at an appraisal and requested it) or i cannot be trusted to do the job alone.Except it doesn't...
Fine. He's an "executive chairman"He doesn't own JD Sports.
Wrong. It simply means we are moving away from the old practice on relying on a few individuals to a collaborative and collective model. Nicky Butt said that the academy head role, as it was earlier, would be too much for one person to handle. It's the same with Woodward. He needs support. The previous structure worked because we had a genius of a manager at the helm.Maybe the penny has dropped re Woodward. Getting him 'help' basically means he cannot be trusted to do his job.
He is just another crony who won't add much to the our most problematic area for the last few season: identification of the right kind of player. You are we need a true football man not another accountant.Hang on from reading the article, it seems like he's more of a commercial person rather than a footballing person.
Why do we need him anyway? Surely we need a DoF more than this unless I'm missing something.
Sounds like an older Woodward to me, the only difference is he is mates with the "right people" so he won't stand in the way of Ryan's ascension. So what would his role be? Seems like another business guy to me.
Struggling to wrap my head around this "he doesn't have the balls to make the big decisions" argument so many of you keep trotting out. Considering how universally despised van Gaal is with both the fans and the media, it's safe to say the easiest option available to Ed over the past two months would involve pulling the trigger on Louis and yet he continues to persevere. That's pretty ballsy. The same can be said for his batshit Muller, Bale and Neymar bids, as ridiculous as they are. Ed Woodward is the epitome of ballsy and that's probably one of the main reasons why we're in the position that we're in.Do they mean someone with the balls to make the big decisions Woodward runs and hides behind the couch to avoid making?
Exactly. Like feck if anyone would've paid that amount for Martial.Struggling to wrap my head around this "he doesn't have the balls to make the big decisions" argument so many of you keep trotting out. I imagine the idea is that he'll lighten the load on the commercial side of things allowing Woodward to redirect more energy to other areas of his role.So what would his role be? Seems like another business guy to me.
Frankly this assumption of the Caf that the Giggs will ve our manager is becoming tiresome. He'd have been already appointed as our manager if that was really our board's long term plan, the fact that he isn't suggests to me its gonna be Jose.Sounds like an older Woodward to me, the only difference is he is mates with the "right people" so he won't stand in the way of Ryan's ascension.
Yes but in this situation Cogwill is being brought in for the commercial side of things, which I think even the most anti-Woodward person can admit is an area he is pretty competent in. Woodward will continue to broker the transfers. If my place of work now got me some 'help' it would mean either they think the job is too big for one person (which surely i would have brought up at an appraisal and requested it) or i cannot be trusted to do the job alone.
Exactly. That's not to say Giggs couldn't be our next manager, it's just not set in stone the way some folks on here are making out.Frankly this assumption of the Caf that the Giggs will ve our manager is becoming tiresome. Can someone please tell me what that OP tweet was about, can't open them atm.

MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to appoint a new director to help under-fire chief Ed Woodward.
The name in the frame is Peter Cowgill, the man behind the revival of the JD Sports empire and a lifelong United fan with strong connections in football.
Sources claim executive vice-chairman Woodward has already accompanied a potential new board member to meetings in Florida with United’s owners, the Glazer family.
And it would be no surprise if it was business and accountancy hotshot Cowgill that the club turned to in order to take some of the pressure off Woodward.
Accountants are notoriously slow in their decision making. He is just another crony who won't add much to the our most problematic area for the last few season: identification of the right kind of player. You are we need a true football man not another accountant.
I think Woodward and his proximity to the Glazers are the only things standing between Giggs and the Old Trafford throne, this guy is being brought in to dilute that influence and isolate Woody..Frankly this assumption of the Caf that the Giggs will ve our manager is becoming tiresome. So you're saying House Giggs of Winterfell maneuvered Cowgill onto the Small Council in an attempt to weaken the Ward of the Wood's position at the club? Any particular reason why they're doing this or have you just finished binge watching Game of Thrones?I think Woodward and his proximity to the Glazers are the only things standing between Giggs and the Old Trafford throne, this guy is being brought in to dilute that influence and isolate Woody..
So not making the decision the whole world and his dog knew needed to be made is "ballsy" in your view? The "do nothing and hope it goes away" style of management isn't ballsy I'm afraid.Struggling to wrap my head around this "he doesn't have the balls to make the big decisions" argument so many of you keep trotting out. Yes. That's my point entirely. So not making the decision the whole world and his dog knew needed to be made is "ballsy" in your view?
I just believe that the idea of Giggs managing United now wouldn't have any traction if it didn't have an influential backer/s but I also know that Woodward is a mini-Perez and he wouldn't stand for that. If we really wanted someone to help Woodward would we bring someone with a similar background to him or we would be looking at someone with a different skill-set that can cover the skills gap we would have noticed in Woodward? This guy is close to Fergie and Gill, guys who ceded all the power to Woodward only to see him making a fool of himself, cock in hand, around Europe their getting short of the chosen one in the most humiliating manner possible. This new guy will only be a counter-balance to Woodward and possibly replace him when shit hits the fan again down the road. If we really wanted help for Woodward we would be scouting a highly rated DoF who could come in and address the technical deficiencies we all have noticed in our recruitment. So you're saying House Giggs of Winterfell maneuvered Cowgill onto the Small Council in an attempt to weaken the Ward of the Wood's position at the club? Broken clock and all that.Red issue is right again. Wish we had an inside info guy on redcafe too.
This sounds more the other way around - bringing in someone to help out on the Commercial side so that Woody can concentrate on being Chief Exec instead of carrying on doing his old jobBringing someone else in makes sense. I'd just have thought it would be someone with the football expertise Woodward lacks.
Yup. I wouldn't be surprised if Woody hasn't asked for the help so he can concentrate on the more glamourous side of things. This sounds more the other way around - bringing in someone to help out on the Commercial side so that Woody can concentrate on being Chief Exec instead of carrying on doing his old job
