Kostas Manolas

AS Roma doesn't seem to be the type who prioritize selling player mid season and risk the result in performance. And the Sun is probably bs rehashing old interest

I think this link is basically is to show Benfica that Utd have other options. I think it's pretty obvious who Mourinho wants, and he usually gets who he wants eventually.
In saying that I'd prefer Manolas but this article is just a smokescreen

we certainly don't need him, we already have 4 very good CBs, Unless it's a world class player/ talent for good we shouldn't be bothered..

Very unreliable CBs.
what is unreliable? yeah so that means that some greek cb playing in seria A will come and become more reliable than what we have, don't be fooled. Rojo has been a rock, Bailly looks top talent, Jones has made like one mistake but which CB in the prem hasnt apart that he was brilliant too and Smalling after a broken finger coming back and looks solid, all players staying fit. Mourinho factor making them great set of centerbacks...

ppl wanted Garays Lindelofs and other overrated centerbacks who havnet even see playing, just because they want signings for the sake of new stuff, players are not like new toys or pokemons ffs

I agree.

We could do with a CB that can actually pass and is comfotable as the LCB, he'd be an upgrade on Smalling.

I would say he is comfortably better than all except Bailly.

He's a a lot better than Smalling, Jones and Rojo. Haven't seen enough of Bailly as of yet to comment.

He's not some unknown entity, if we don't sign him, another big team will.

We have the 2nd best defense in te league but this guy is better than our 4 CBs...ok
We've conceded more than Chelsea and Spurs. But still, I'm sure you're more knowledgeable about Manolas than you are about the league table.

So fans are basing their choice to buy a player based on a computer game ranking? Am I reading this correct?

From what I have seen is definitely an upgrade on Rojo/Smalling.

Glad you agree..so we dont need another CB

No we don't necessarily need a new CB to improve defensively (defensive stability seems to be about organisation as much as individual quality, and Mourinho has an excellent track-record in that regard. Rojo's positioning, for instance, has improved markedly this season).

However there are traits that are likely to prove less-malleable to training/instruction, such as the ability to play out from the back and leadership qualities. They're inherent to the player and it's not unreasonable to suggest that Mourinho may need to turn to the market to solve problems that would otherwise prove intractable. That is afterall what the market is actually for.

Would you call them reliable on the basis of the last few seasons? Jones, Rojo and Smalling have all had patchy form for most of their United careers, all are susceptible to injury at any moment (particularly the former two).

I would say the only 'reliable' CB United have at the moment is Bailly, then again he's still relatively new to the league and can be a bit rash at times.

Thats the last few seasons, all seem pretty reliable now. No lets start with Manolas who has problems starting for Roma right now. Why Manolas and not Rudiger?

I bet we dont get Manolas.

To be fair, Rojo should have been sent off in 2 of his 3 starts that gave him this good run of form.
If's and but's, but if he was sent off, we may never have seen him play for us again.

I don't know the situation with Manolas right now, but isn't he supposed to be one of the better defenders in the world right now? And by better, I mean one who'd start for most teams in Europe

Never really seen Manolas play but I think smalling has had his peak at united he's a decent player but not what we hoped. Rojo on the other hand has looked strangely good this season, I like his no nonsense approach to defending, ok he might not be the best on the ball but hes better than smalling and doesn't make many howlers.

Jones/Rojo has been a good partnership for what, 2 months? Let's give it a bit more time before we establish them as 'reliable', both on the performance and injury front, especially when both have a history of picking up knocks and poor performances and/or defensive-mistakes. Smalling was the best CB in the PL according to a lot of United fans last year and now he's arguably 4th choice for a fair few, whilst Jones/Rojo were shit and should've been sold.

Opinions change quick, I'm just saying as a whole United's CB quartet need to establish themselves as consistent performers for a bit longer before we can label them 'reliable' and it an area not in need of strengthening.

I'm not saying Manolas is the right player to get in by the way, but I do feel at the moment there's still a market for a established world-class, experienced, consistent CB. Maybe in due course that will change, but for now the likes of Smalling, Bailly, Jones and Rojo still have a lot to prove before that notion is completed dispelled.
