She was the reason he left his lifes work behind. I am certain he never once regretted his decision.

RIP Lady Cathy Ferguson

Makes me worry about him now tbh. I've seen lots of times when someone loses their life partner they lose a little bit of themselves and pass within the next few years. Happened with both sets of my grandparents.
Same.

Sad news.

That's incredibly sad - RIP Cathy.

I genuinely don't thikn it would be out of place for their to be a minute silence at OT on Saturday for her.

Oh no... I know that for a lot of old couples, when their spouse passes, they're not far behind either due to emotional sadness. :( But I hope Sir Alex lives as long a life ahead of him.

Sad sad news, this lady had an enormous role to play in the clubs history, imagine the support she gave SAF over the years . . .

This was my first thought but my grandmother lost the love of her life (65+ years together) at a similar age and was devastated but almost 20 years later is still going strong. How Sir Alex's family and the community rallies to support him will be important.

One of his characteristics that will hopefully help him through the difficult time is that he still enjoys socialising and being part of it all. He went out on a jolly to Barcelona earlier this year with buddies and hasn’t really stopped since he retired. He enjoys being out with the boys even at 80.

If he’d turned more reclusive since retirement, then I would be worrying for him.

Condolence to the great man and the lady's family.

As good as SAF was/ is, a large part of that was what we never seen; and much of that was this fantastic woman. She is much more important to Manchester United then most people realize IMO.

Very sad to hear. Hope the great man and his family stay strong. A minute silence at OT tomorrow to let sir Alex know we’re all with him.

This really hit me. I just think of how much impact that woman had indirectly on our lives. I really hope Sir Alex finds the strength in his family and loved ones. R.I.P Lady Cathy.

I was just watching the Sir Alex documentary on Amazon this afternoon and have seen this news.

I really feel for him, you can tell how much he adored her and the regret he has for not having been there more to help with the family.

RIP Cathy.

Sad news, I'm sure she has had a bigger role in his success than we'll ever know. He clearly loved her very much and made of point of talking how he retired so they could spend time with each other finally. I'm glad they got to do that for years but they deserved even more time together.

RIP Lady Ferguson. A very sad time for all her family. She’s been a massive part of the Man Utd history. As other have said already, I don’t think that Sir Alex would have achieved so much without her support. My condolences to their family.
