1- United 2008.
2- United 1999.
3- United 1968.

I really can't decide, though, between United 99 and United 68.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Difficult to rank.

90 can beat you late mins always comeback. It may be weaker defensively but arguably stronger midfield and comparable attack except it have four different weapons.

08 has Ronaldo and a secured wall VDS-Evra-Vidic-Rio-Brown. Those are the main things. Good midfield with various tactical options and two good supporting attacker to weapon CR - Rooney and Tevez.

I'll go with this:
1. United 99
2. United 08

Haven't seen 68 play.

I can't comment on the 1968 team. I would say that the 2008 team was tactically smarter and more versatile than the 1999 team and much stronger defensively plus I think the squad had better depth, while the 1999 team definitely had the better midfield, was insanely strong mentally and was more swash-buckling.

Looking at Utd from 2006-2009, in 2006/2007 they very cavalier and played some truly dazzling football, and 2008/2009 they were more 'mechanical' and (obviously there were stand out performances such as vs. Chelsea at Old Trafford and away to Arsenal in the CL), while in 2007/2008 they were somewhere in the middle and the balance seemed to be just right.

I would say that Utd faced tougher competition in the Premier League in 2007/2008 compared to 1998/1999, but tougher competition in the Champions League in 1998/1999 compared to 2007/2008.

Not sure that:

VDS
Brown - Rio - Vidic - Evra

is stronger defensively than:

Schmeichel
Neville - Stam - Johnsen - Irwin

All sounds like we had at least 7-8 such teams

I count for alive only the 99

I'm old enough to remember the 1968 team. George Best and Bobby Charlton were two of the world's best at that time - and we hard a third Ballon d'Or winner, Denis Law, out injured for the final. I can't fault any of the others in the side either. It's hard to explain the pressure they were under and indeed some of the less celebrated players performed brilliantly in the final. Context is important too. Remember, no English team had ever won the competition at that stage. I suppose we all favour the team we remember from our youth. Forgive me for that. I don't want to disparage any of these three great sides, I celebrate them all.

We should have won more CLs with both the 1999 and 2008 teams.

For me it’s ‘99. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of watching them when I was 8. But that year was special.

Hope to see those who saw all 3 offer their opinions.

The 1999 team was pretty much awesome. We had a lot of attacking solutions and the middle of the pitch was well covered. The squad was not as balanced, since our alternatives for the wings were pretty much a huge gap, but the team was so drilled that it didn't matter in the end.

Ending the season with a 33 match unbeaten run in all competitions in 1999 was pretty special.

Randomly, I remember Kevin Keegan's Fulham who stormed their way to the 2nd division (now League One) title that season, giving Utd a pretty decent test in the FA Cup that season.

1. 1999
2. 2008

I always remember the 2008 team as being better than it probably really was. It was a great team but in 2008 we had easy games until the semis where we scraped through against Barcelona and were neck and neck with Chelsea, whereas our route to the final in 1999 was a who's who of European football. Player by player tells a story too:

Schmeichel over Van Der Sar - 1-0 to 99
Neville over Brown - 2-0
Stam over Rio/Vidic - 3-0
Rio/Vidic over Johnsen - 3-1
Irwin or Evra, i couldn't choose - 3-1
Ronaldo over Giggs - 3-2
Keane over Carrick - 4-2
99 Scholes = 08 Scholes - 4-2
Beckham over Hargreaves/Park - 5-2
Individually I'd take Rooney over Yorke and Tevez over Cole, but as a partnership Yorke and Cole over Rooney and Tevez any day. 6-2

I would never judge a 68 team i never saw, but any team with Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best in it is going to be pretty high up the ranking.

Come to think about it, most of our attackers in the 08 team were yet to hit their peak. The team was dismantled too quickly. Who knows what could have been had they stayed another 2, 3 years.

The 99 team would have beat the 2008 team. Didnt get to see the 1968 team other than clips and comments from aunts and uncles.
