Let's talk 'keepers: who do we buy and why?

Garcia seems to parry everything right in front of him which is what worried me about Onana.

Weird how goalkeepers are reluctant to actually catch and hold on to the ball now
 
If Maignan can come for a fee lower than the fee we sell Onana, it makes sense to have him for a short fix.

So if we sell Onana for 20m, you wouldn’t buy Maignan unless his fee was less?

Anything up to 35m would be a really good deal on Maignan regardless of how much sell Onana for tbh.

Maignan got 1 year left on his contract and is 30 this summer.

Ideally we sell Onana to Saudi at 30M and buy his replacement (either Garcia Savic or Maignan) at a lower fee, so our PSR pressure will be relieved more.

So perhaps we need to identify the goalkeeper you'd least like to arrange a stag-do and build the shortlist from there?

Please football Gods, I do not want to see Onana as no.1 or even on the bench.

I'd much rather have Vitek if we don't have money for another no. 1, I'd be a lot more forgiving.

Am hearing some reports that vitek is a target for Blackpool with Blackpool manager Steve Bruce having connections.

You’d have thought we will face big completion at that price. Chelsea are surely sniffing around for a keeper.

30 is not old for a keeper
Also I would not worry much about PSR when we are selling Rashford and Garnacho and also getting money for Carreras
 
Would Lunin be available? Although Courtois is 33, he's in top shape and still untouchable. When he was injured, Lunin really stepped up.

They're in League 1 so won't be paying much for a keeper, although we'll probably benefit from favourable buy back/sell on clauses which we should get from most teams anyway . Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

I think he would jump at the chance to be the main keeper at a bigger club. Madrid always sell if one meets their price. Our track record with buying players from them is not that great (to say the least!)

Would be happy with any of these options so naturally we’ll sign Kepa.

Why would anyone, even a Saudi club pay £30m for Onana? That would be the 9th most expensive keeper transfer of all time. Onana to United was 4th.

I can’t see how anyone would even contemplate offering more than £10m for him. Most likely, there is no interest at all because there are 100+ keepers in Europe who are better than him.
 
Apparently Garcia is going to either Newcastle or Barcelona while Aston Villa are going for Chevalier

While we most likely end up keeping Onana and maybe add that Leicester keeper as number two if Bayindir leaves

Probably Barcelona as Szczęsny is already 35, and Marc-André ter Stegen is finished there.
 
As long as he is not below 6'3", does not have short arms, and is not a bag of nerves, I am in.

I just want someone big and secure.

Two good keepers off the market there. I like Hermansen (Spelling?) at Leicester mind you. Decent keeper, good age, has experience in the league. He'd take Onana's spot, though not the level of upgrade I'd have hoped for.

We recruited him 10 years ago but he never got his work permit. Been at Torino for years and he’s just had his best season. Likely move to a bigger Italian or Spanish club this summer or the next…

Neuer is the 10th most expensive keeper of all time at £25m. Onana has no reputation, no credibility and would not in any way help that league. Close to zero chance that they interested, why would any team use up their overseas quota on him? Not happening.

When you look at the figures keepers have gone for, you can truly understand how much we overpaid for Onana. Took to the cleaners.

Even with his run to the CL final, he was worth £20m max.

He’s the 4th most expensive keeper of all time, and he doesn’t even do the basics and fundamentals to any sort of standard.
 
Since ter Stegen seems to be on the verge of leaving Barcelona.
Can anyone else here imagine him?

I'm very biased about Ter Stegen, having been a big fan since he was a teenager, so I need a more objective opinion.

I would seriously consider Kelleher from Liverpool. Solid pro, good character and Premier League proven. Basically see him as a Dean Henderson type.

Liverpool are considering selling him to Villa for £20odd million. They are more a rival to Liverpool than we are. I dont see them standing in his way if Utd came in.

I know a lot of Liverpool fans annoyed they are selling him and getting this Georgian guy in.

Would be cost effective and would help sort the culture problem in the dressing room.

As the cherry on the cake, he was a Utd fan as a cub. It just makes sense to me (and yes I am also Irish).
