We're stuck with this clown in our NT for the foreseeable future. He's just Rui Patrício mk2 all over again. Patrício wasn't that great of a keeper for us either but at least he had the game of his life when it mattered in the Euro 2016 against France.
I understand why people see potential in him: he's actually good at covering the back of the defence and his handling technique is solid. But his positioning and decision making is yet to improve to make him a reliable goalkeeper for a top team.

André Amaro going to Qatar is another evidence of how strange the football is nowadays. We are talking about of one of the most promising U21 center backs on Europe, but I understand that getting a wage 10x bigger is a no brainer though.

Other players to watch this season:
NamePositionClubBriefing
Gustavo SáAttacking MidfielderFamalicãoMaybe a little soon for him, but the truth is he is seen as a youngster with tons of potential.
RogerWingerSC BragaHuge potential on this kid. Let's see if he can get more game time to show if all the hype is real.
Mirko TopicDefensive MidfielderFamalicãoThis actually can turn against me: this guy was hired to be a backup to Tom Lacoux, a former U21 french player that Famalicão hired to Bordeaux, but he is showing some quality on pre-season.
Leonardo LeloLeft BackCasa PiaLet's see if he makes another solid season. This guys is very fast, and he never gets tired. He's actually very good at defending.
Saviour GodwinWingerCasa PiaActually surprised Braga didn't went for him: he is a very skilled dribler with a lot of pace, he is the main creative threat of his team.
Filipe RelvasCenter BackPortimonenseIt seems to have a lot of potential: aggressive, very powerful and strong in 1 on 1 situations, but his ball skills seem a bit off.
Alex MendezCenter MidfielderVizelaThis kid seems to be a very skilled midfielder so far. The pre-season performances and League Cup have been promising.

My brother before the match: finally musa gets his chance. He gets sent off...

Also my brother: vlachodimos is very solid, trubin won't have many chances. He performs like a sunday league player...

I'm loving his bitterness right now:lol:

Vlachodimos was never a fans favorite, this game might be a good excuse to get Trubin in.
Musa totaly deserved to start but now being out next game if Arthur Cabral is as good as benfica fans say, he is not getting back to starting 11.

They'll both leave by christmas.

Musa was the only striker available, so his start was a natural thing. Reckless challenge, so the red card was fair.
The game was actually controlled and it seemed that even playing with 10 things would go well, but Ody strikes again :D

TBH Sporting was actually the most solid exibition by the big 3, they created enough chances to solve the game earlier, but they urgently need solid defenders.

Porto got a win from a game where they could had easily draw or lost, and same to Benfica who even with 11 players was struggling to create chances.

If Alan Varela adapts, he wont be there next season. He's really an excellent midfielder

Just scrolling through the scores on BBC football and saw Porto scored in the NINETEENTH minute of injury time!

Would love someone watching that to confirm how they came to that amount as even with the excessive time that must be the latest ever recorded goal for a 90 minute game.

VAR had a malfunction in the image and audio, that alone took an eternity before the ref decided to revert his decision. Apparently he talked to the VAR studio by cellphone. Other than that a lot of time wasting.

The portuguese League since last year, but more enforced this year, has decided to give as much injury time as necessary to compensate for the time the game is stopped.
In the portuguese league the real play time has been even lower than what is recorded in other leagues and the League decided to punish time wasting this way.
In some games like this one the time wasting + injuries + long VAR checks + substitutions can all accumulate and give crazy extra times.
If you check the scores in many of the games this season you can see many goals in 90+5++ because of this.

Has Porto's match already over?

Every time I see something like this, I think Guardiola's idea of 30 minutes per half with clock stop and teams who took too long to start the play would loose possession would be the way to improve this.

Major update on this thread. I'm gonna name some players outside the top4 teams that have been playing very well this season.

NamePositionDOBClubBriefing
Pedro MalheiroRight Back21/01/2001 (22 y.o.)BoavistaA right back with tons of potential to show: his attacking ouput is really good. His dribbling, crossing and ball control are actually very good. He is quick, runs fast and has enough stamina to make it work throug the 90 mins. His defensive work is solid, but needs to be more aggressive, though that might because he needs to gain a few pounds in strength IMO.
João MarquesCenter Midfielder / Attacking Midfielder13/02/2002 (21 y.o.)EstorilEasy choice this one. A kid with tons of potential. Good passing ability, good at reading the game and play between the sectors, and skilled.
More of an attacking midfielder yet, but if he can become a more aggressive player offball he might become a top player.
Héctor HernandezStriker 14/09/1995 (28 y.o.)ChavesAmazing start of season. Not the type of striker to be top club material, but his simplicity on his processes adding to a good finishing capacity and good positioning in the box makes him a tough striker to pin point.
Pablo RobertoCenter Midfielder14/11/1999 (23 y.o.)Casa PiaA good scout by Casa Pia once again. This guy was lost on Brasilian lower divisions. Needs to be more aggressive through, but he seems like a well rounded midfielder. Interesting prospect.
Róbert BrozeníkStriker18/11/1999 (23 y.o.)BoavistaA good catch by Boavista. he came loaned from Feyenoord and got acquired at the end of a loan by quite a cheap deal. If he keeps his levels like this the rest of the season he will be in a top club soon. He's determined, strong, fast and technically is well rounded. If he keeps improving he might become a very interesting striker.
AlanAttacking midfielder08/03/2000 (23 y.o.)MoreirenseActually surprised he signed for Moreirense, because when he was a U20 at Brazil he was actually highly rated as someone with potential. His vision and intelligence is way above average. If he can improve some other areas of his game, he has the tools to become a very gifted player.
Tiago MoraisLeft Winger03/09/2003 (20 y.o.)BoavistaAnother kid who looks like a hot prospect. His speed and balance are insane, specially running with the ball. Needs to improve the passing accuracy through, but that might come with experience.
Gonçalo FrancoCenter Midfielder17/11/2000 (22 y.o.) MoreirenseLooks like a well balanced box2box midfielder. Doesn't seem to have a very strong characteristic, but he knows what to do on the pitch. He is actually better at offball duties and he's a dinamo, rarely seems to look tired. I think he might b ready to try a superior team, IMO.

Sporting and Benfica knocked out of the semis
So it will be Braga against Estoril in the final. Fingers crossed Estoril can get it done

Late goals in each half rescue Benfica a point but if you’re sporting you have to be feeling pretty good today

Benfica had a chance to rack up goals in this second half, at 5-0 at half time. Instead Vizela have a chance to make it 5-2 from the spot and the crowd keep booing Casper.

EDIT aaaand the penalty is saved

3 goals in about 3 minutes for Benfica. Rafa with trivelas for a goal and assist to Di Maria, bookending a lovely counter goal by neres.
