No link as of yet. BBC have spoke about reports on there muppet watch.

1021: Not strictly related to the transfer of players, but there are strong reports suggesting that there has been a takeover at Man City, with the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment splashing the cash. No more Shinawatra, it seems.

Abu Dhabi group in Blues take over - report

1/ 9/2008

MANCHESTER City has been reportedly taken over by the Abu Dhabi Group for Development and Investment.

Thaksin Shinawatra has been looking for new investment and a deal was struck on Sunday evening, report Arabian Business.

The group will be represented on the board by Hydra Properties chief Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim.

Fahim said: "We will release details later, but this is a great event for both the club and Abu Dhabi.

"Our goal is very simple - to make Manchester City the biggest clup in the Premier League, and to begin with, to finish in the top four this season."

No wonder they had a late spurt and bought a few players at the end. That's surely where the money came from.

this group, are they the same DIC we heard about many times before?
Abu Dhabi Group
Abu Dhabi Group is a group of Iraqi commercial business companies. AD Group was found in 1993 as Abu Dhabi co. and expanded to several commercial companies ...

I don't think so. DIC is Dubai, this is Abu Dhabi.

It's a bit late to take them over, isn't it? They've got fourteen hours to sign players with all the money they have. Otherwise they'll have to wait until January, by which time they won't be anywhere near the top four.

Never heard of them.

Just because they're from the Middle East doesn't mean they're rolling in cash and even if they are, they'll be looking for a return on their investment.

The good news is that it looks like Frank is keeping his hooks in the club and he's already proven what a disaster he is as an owner :D

This is funny.. After years of growing up in Manchester with City fans saying

"all your fans are in China and f*ckin' Japan you glory hunter"

city go from one purely money motivated owner to another, and a mass Asian city contingent is sure to follow.. OH THE IRONY!

I wonder why none of these mega rich companies were/are interested in us. We are the most famous club in the world and we ended up with an owner who can't afford us.

It's going to be ridiculous how much more money the premiership has compared to the other leagues in a couple of years. We're going to end up with 20 teams who can outbid every other club bar the likes of Madrid and Barca.

Did I just hear right? The person they are talking to on Sky Sports News say that Man City's new owners will have significantly more money than Roman Abrahimovich.
If they are Iraqi then they must be rich oil businessmen, so not too surprised. This will provide them with financial stability, although I wonder if Thaksin will let go, because if he does, he loses alot of status and becomes nothing but an exiled fugitive. And no one will want to deal with him. By holding on to City, at least he still has something to his name besides corruption charges.

They will be again once the Glazers decide to sell.

Why? Because its ruining football or because you're scared of what City might become?
What Manchester United have is much bigger then Shitty can ever achieve. Chelsea had shown that its almost impossible to make a small club, big unless you're keen of putting that club on heavy debts, debts that they will never be able to pay. It takes decades for any big club to build its base of supporter and start attracting the deals you want.

Manchester United may cost a hell of alot but they are self sufficient.
