Eh, their profile these days is damn near unrecognisable from what it was just a handful of years back. You see "City fans" from all over the globe on twitter now. From time to time it still startles me, but it is what it is. If true, it's kind of silly of them to do this, because they're certainly growing in terms of global following. Should just be patient. Getting Pep was a big boost to their popularity. A lot of Barcelona fans and people from latin american countries kind of adopted them as their second team (it helps that they play good football).

Believe me no one is surprised.
We bought twitter too! Or just maybe the salty fans who took at pain at its 6-1 joke and caused it were proven to be trolls.

8.5m followers, we should thank them, they gained us 1m.

It's easier to gain twitter followers than pretend plastic seats are actual fans.

Oh no another "We have more fans than you post". Congrats. I'll take the less fans, less glory hunters, a competent manager and trophies option though.

No one gives a feck about your personal preferences. Especially on this forum.

TwitterAudit reveals only 59% of their followers are real.
I think it's 59% also for SpursOfficial.

Curious as to how it determines fake ones? I assume they are common accounts or something?

If it's measure on how "active" the follower is, it'd be a bit a bit flawed. For example, I don't 'use' twitter because it's a horrible place to interact, but I 'read' it and as such I don't have many (perhaps 2 randoms) followers or tweets.

More to the point, I am curious as to the end goal. What's the marker for? I understand it for YouTubers and 'Influencers', but it comes across as pointless willy-waving otherwise, surely? If a business 'bought' followers above a couple of million anyway, you'd infer that it meant there was a financial gain involved in a higher figure

You know how every feels about me on the forum, I'm flattered you have that interest. Must have sent a lot of dm's... or do I have my own thread?

It's not even an interest. There's always been opposition members who become defensive as soon as someone posts anything about their club. If you could read the post you replied to, you would notice that I never compared your club to ours and in no way did i allude to it being a "we have more fans than you post".

If its not an interest I have to wonder how you know how many fecks the forum give about me? Not that I care, but you must... If you wanna talk of reading... "No one gives a feck about your personal preferences. Especially on this forum." Strongly suggests you do actually give a feck if you checked how other people feel. Or could you not read your own post?

Also what does empty plastic seats imply if its not fanbase comparisons? I can read fine thanks.

Who gives a feck about your personal preferences, especially "less fans, less glory hunters, a competent manager and trophies option"? Show me one poster who would say "I genuinely care about padr81 personal preferences in regards to all of the above". One poster and I will apologize, I have no problem with that.

When I say empty plastic seats I mean a proven fact that City have a lot of empty seats in their stadium. And it's not just me, it was proven some time ago that your club was inflating attendance numbers compared to the actual number of people in the stadium. If I am not mistaken, 1 in 6 seats was empty. I didn't compare it to anyone. See, there's a difference between "you have empty plastic seats" and "you have more plastic seats compared to us". One is a comparison, the other is not. It's not really rocket science, is it?

I never said there was one. You said there wasn't... Honestly I genuinely couldn't give a shite dude. Its it on the person making the accusation to prove their claim. I mean you are the one who made that assumption, not me.

Again what do empty seats imply? I believe its a small fanbase. So if you weren't using it to belittle us having a small fanbase why post it? If you were in comparison to who? I mean you can't fill your stadium because you have no fans is what you implied. No fans in relation to who? We have more fans than 95% of english football and probably 99% of global football... Its also not a proven fact we have more empty seats.

Here's last season attendances and it suggests we get a better % turnout than United but hey don't let facts get in the way of your facts.

You seem to get incredibly angry over some internet posts, You dish out banter than cry when its given back. Put me on ignore or something and I'll deal with people who don't get so angry over nothing comments on a message board aka grown ups.

Do Twitter actually suspend accounts for that?
Yes. There were two brothers called the Krassensteins who built up a very large number of followers posting Anti-Trump stuff and they got kicked off permanently for that. While they had a large number of genuine accounts following them they had fakes too that were re-tweeting them etc. to make them look even more popular than they were. I'm sure it's happened many times but that's a famous case of Twitter acting on this sort of thing.

Empty seats imply empty seats, i.e. seats with no fans on them. I can't believe I have to explain this, honestly. Your club got caught up inflating the attendance numbers and my point inferred to the fact that it's easier for to cover up for the number of twitter followers rather than plastic empty seats. That is it. I don't know where you got the comparison with united from or how small your fanbase is.

My reply was banter indeed, but i wasn't expecting you to become so defensive. I am not angry, you just pictured this imaginary comparison in your head and replied seriously to it.

Dude I take nothing in football seriously ever. If I did football would have driven me over the edge when we were in League 2.

Well Ronaldo isn't going on his instagram and looking up companies to buy russian bot followers. He has a team of people who run his social media from that perspective, he likely has no idea that a quarter of his followers aren't real people. But yes, every celebrity will have a portion of their followers as bots.

I'll just leave this right here.
https://talksport.com/football/523375/premier-league-club-most-fake-fans-twitter-followers/

But just like everything else, I don't care whether we buy it or not. Was just pointing out what many perceived as the reason for what happened yesterday.
Did you see the definition?

“This tool defines ‘fake followers’ as accounts that are unreachable because they’re spam, bots, and propaganda, or because they’re no longer active on Twitter, while an audit is a random sample of 2,000 accounts looked at with 25+ factor correlated with spam/bot/low quality activity.”

Obvs we’ll have a lot more followers that are inactive, because we have a lot more followers. Also these check websites tend to look at location, and we’ll have a lot of Indian fans and Middle Eastern fans, which is also where fake follower accounts come from.

But anyway, can’t believe you took the time to find that article to counter
