who cares, could car if it was £500m a season as it will only end up lining the pockets of the glazers
This!

Why do people care about stuffs like this? It's not as if holding this record (highest paid shirt sponsor) makes us significantly better than our rivals on the pitch which is why I became a supporter of this club in the first place.

Yeah whats happening in hong kong, tibet, western china where there are literally hundreds of thousands if not millions of muslims being rounded up into caps and "educated". Sounds mint.
While it is OK to chop off the head of a 15 years old and do a selfie

If we are going to nitpick the faults of all our sponsors, we might as well shut the club down.

Just in case people are not aware of FFP. It governs how much you can spend on wages, by combining all your revenue. Relying on TV revenue alone is not enough, you need commercial revenue, tickets, shirts etc. City cheated a bit by sponsoring their stadium right via internal group, and seem to have got away with it. Man Utd major source of revenue is commercial sponsorship, considering our ticket price is less than Arsenal or Chelsea.

I remember the Club does have 1 rule, that we didn't allow betting firm on our shirt, although we do have 1 betting house as minor co-sponsor

I didn't know that. But sponsors are necessary to attract the best players. Even 'holier than thou' Barcelona realised that if yoiu have to pay Messi a million dollars/week, you have to have names plastered on their jerseys.

Lots of money flowing into the club theorically keep the ticket prices down. Fans can continue to flock in to see us home and away.
So thats one way the extra money is good for all of us. Besides, Haier already denied the rumors. I think its a non issue now really.

No more off-topic posts, this thread is for discussing the potential sponsorship deal in a footballing sense. Take your socio-political commentary to General or CE Forum, please. Thanks!

What absolute horse shit. How is this off topic? Did redcafe get taken over my china? don't recall the saudi take over thread being shut down for discussion this quickly...

There is more than 1 thread in the united forum on the POTENTIAL saudi take over with pages of discussion around saudi arabia as a country. How is it different?

Are you serious? Do you know what Nazis were? They were socialist, they were hard left wing.
Let me guess: Evolution is "just a theory" and you are still undecided about the whole "earth is a sphere" thing.

You really think we can win it?!
We can win the net spend trophy.
I think that we should also be awarded the most valuable shirt sponsor trophy.

CL and EPL trophies are okay....but the 2 trophies above - that's where the real action is at :p

Sounds very kind but I wonder if its fueled as much by a lack of lucrative offers.

6 months?

Shame. Was hoping for at least another 6 years.

You would expect sponsorship to drop at some stage, but it will be alleviated by partnering with more companies.

Least you can change the colour of the logo to black or white for the jerseys. Already better.

Was googling this. Looks like we've planned to extended our sponsorship with Chevrolet for 6 more months.

https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...ews/man-utd-shirt-sponsors-chevrolet-19602007
The Athletic had some extra details in their article:

"Chevrolet’s parent company General Motors has been feeling the pinch of the pandemic, so United negotiated fresh terms that will see the car maker’s logo stay on their kits until December next year. Chevrolet now has an extra six months to pay the remaining balance on the $559 million (£425 million) contract, doing so in instalments of pounds rather than dollars. The currency conversion gives United security on the payment — previously, the club were at the mercy of fluctuations in exchange rates — and ultimately means an added £11 million in revenue can be reported in the accounts."

"It is regarded as a mutually beneficial arrangement that allows United more time to find a new name to go on their players’ chests. Insiders rejected any suggestion the move reflected a difficulty in sourcing a sponsor of the same high value, insisting talks with multiple prospective partners continue. It does raise the possibility of United changing sponsors midway through next season, although this remains to be seen."

It seems like from the above post Chevrolet aren’t interested in renewing so we will actually get a new shirt sponsor! only downside is that this is the worst possible time to negotiate a sponsorship as everyone will tell us they’re struggling and broke to get the best deal... we should try for Amazon or someone who is on the up.

They won't be as sponsoring United was part of their expansion of the Chevy brand into Europe. But if i remember correctly they shut down the Chevrolet brand in Europe shortly after the deal was signed.

Makes sense, so this extension is mainly giving Woodward and his team more time to find a buyer basically

Bit unfortunate timing that we're in the market for a new shirt sponsor at the worst possible time. We should have been looking for a ridiculous record number, and hopefully we can still find some muggy company willing to do it.

I've not seen any. To be fair not sure it's needed, they seem to be known everywhere without having to fork out for it. Or maybe they're avoiding conflicts of interest since they're moving in the direction of offering prime subscribers the ability to watch PL games.

Trying to avoid similarities to when bSkyb tried to take over United possibly.

It also gives GM more time to honour the remaining payments on the contract. So mutually beneficial to both sides.

Its possible that the club go for a shorter sponsorship deal of only 1-2 years in this climate. Either in the hope that things are looking better a year or two down the line to negotiate a new multi-year mega deal. And a shorter term deal might give companies who normally couldn't afford advertising space on United's shirt an opportunity they might be willing to pay a lot for.

I don't think Amazon would be able to sponsor a team due to Amazon Prime showing PL football, it might be seen as a conflict of interests.
