Manchester United's Paul Scholes is not suffering from partial blindness, according to the Old Trafford club.

The 30-year-old has been out of the first-team line-up since suffering a bang on the head during the Premiership draw with Birmingham on 28 December.

United insist that Scholes only has a slight problem with his eyesight.

"Paul has blurred vision in one eye. He has not got a cyst and is not suffering from blindness. He cannot play until he recovers," said the spokesman.

Scholes missing for United

Paul Scholes will sit out the Manchester derby after failing to recover from blurred vision.

The former England midfielder suffered a bang on the head during the draw at Birmingham on December 28 and could be out for another fortnight.

New signings Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra are both included in Sir Alex Ferguson's squad, while top scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to return in place of Louis Saha.

Kick-off at Eastlands is 12:45pm.

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Howard, Neville, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Brown, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Richardson, Park, Ronaldo, Smith, Fletcher, Giggs, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Saha, Rossi.

fergie'd never play your line up away from home. He still goes 442 against Burton! I think your first line up is what he'll play, although i'd rather see Park than Giggs, dunno if he's fit.

Fergie and I would play the same team then. Park and Scholes out is pretty bad though.
We should win that one and hopefully Liverpool will lose some points
