Although we lead them in total trophies won, now we go ahead with total Major trophies too.

First time in our history that we're League Cup and FA Cup holders at the same time.

These things are always down to definition of what trophies count, but if the Pool twitter is changing, I think we're in!

We were already the most successful club in England before today.

We were tied with Liverpool on 41 major trophies as the most successful English football club, now we have just overtaken them. :smirk:

Pretty sure we were one behind before today....the three European trophies, PL/Division 1, FA Cup and League Cup. Today's win makes it 41 each I think.

That list doesn't include the World Club Cup, which we won.

Given you have to be CL champs to participate, I want no talk of it being a'minor' cup.

Depends if FIFA club world cup is regarded as major trophy. I saw few people rating it above league cup etc in the 'ranking of trophies' thread recently. To me, it is just series of glorified friendlies. It is not 'one-off' game though, to win trophy so I can see why it can be counted as a 'major' trophy. Is there a 'definition' of a major trophy?

World club championship not included in the 41 - perhaps that explains the varying numbers from different sources.

World Club Cup, Intercontinental Cup, Super Cup?
The pic has condition below which says it doesn't include one-offs but then FIFA club world cup should be counted if they are just keeping out one-offs. Intercontinental cup used to be one-off, same with Super cup which is nothing more than European community shield.

Yeah, I wouldn't count the CWC personally but can see the argument for including it on the 'one-off' game definition.

Depends what trophies are counted

The 41 Liverpool have won can be broken down as follows:
First Division - 18
FA Cups - 7
League Cups - 8
European Cups/Champions Leagues - 5
UEFA Cups - 3

Manchester United's 42 are:
First Division/Premier League - 20
FA Cups - 12
League Cups - 5
European Cups/Champions Leagues - 3
Cup Winners Cups - 1
Club World Cups - 1

If you count all trophies then the 3 Super Cups and 15 Community Shields takes Liverpool up to 59 and the Super Cup, 21 Shields and Intercontinental Cup that United have won gives us 65.

However you cut it though, we're no longer under them which is the important thing.

If we can win the FA cup, or Europa it'll be magnificent.

It's a good thing they've lost a few cup finals over the last decade, although we've also lost 2 European cup finals of course

Counting the Club World Cup, but not the Intercontinental Cup is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. They are the same thing!!!

Bleacher Report's Twitter doesn't count Intercontinental Cup as it is a two team competition.
