This probably won't go down well but to most unbiased commentators, the quality in City's squad now at least equals United's. But what about the first XI made from both teams? How would that look?

---------------- Hart

Richards(?) - Rio ----- Vidic - Evra

-------- Toure ------- De Jong

Nani --------------------------- Silva

--------- Rooney ---- Tevez/Aguero

For me, anyways. Great team that is!

I'd have:

Hart, Rafael, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Toure, Carrick, Nani, Silva, Rooney and Hernandez.

You could argue a place for Tevez/Aguero instead of Hernandez but I'd rather have the little Mexican for now on the basis that Tevez is a cnut, Aguero as still to prove in the English game and that Rooney and Hernandez is a good partnership.

I've for Hart over de Gea for now but I expect that to change as I think isn't as good as most people believe him to be.

Right now it'd be:

Hart

Rafael - Rio ----- Vidic - Evra

-------- Toure ------- De Jong/Carrick

Nani --------------------------- Silva

--------- Rooney ---- Tevez/Aguero

Good team Average but I think you're over-rating Kompany and under-rating Rio.

Kompany is without doubt City's best defender and one of the Premiership's best, but I'd say Rio is the Premiership's best.

True - my opinion my be clouded by form (and availability) over the past year or so.

I'd go with almost the same team. More attacking line-up though.

Oh and disagree with this bit of the OP:

the quality in City's squad now at least equals United's.
The quality of United's squad is still significantly better than City's. Their best XI would run us close though.

Doubt it. Fergie's never been a fan of purely defensive central midfielders. He likes his front six to consist of players who are all decent passers of the ball.
Yaya would certainly get in though.

The right back-spot is up for grabs, really. Nobody can even confidently say who our best is, whilst Richards is improving all the time and getting the games under his belt consistently.

Nani, Silva, Rooney and Aguero in a front four would be unplayable though.

De Jong can feck right off. An absolute bore of a player. A last resort if we wanted to defend and kick the opposition, but that wouldn't be necessary.

Hart
Rafael - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Valencia - Carrick - Y.Toure - Nani
Rooney - Aguero

Close between Rafael and Richards I suppose. Although you could add Smalling in too. It might be bias but I think our lads have the greater potential. Silva is a classy player but I can't justify picking him. If they sign Nasri I'd have Nasri over Valencia though.

Yaya Toure and perhaps Joe Hart for now would improve us. But I think it is a toss up between Silva and our wingers as to which should start. And as we know, Tevez's preferred position is also Rooney's, so Hernandez or Welbeck are actually a better complement to Rooney. Berbatov had as many goals as Tevez.

Really, only Yaya Toure for me is a certain choice.

Ridiculously good. Only one United player in the front six for me. Have to be honest...

It's hard to pick the best XI because it hugely depends on formation etc. Hart, Vidic, Evra, Toure, Silva, and Rooney are certainties though if we are going for 442. For the rest it's Rafael v Richards, Ferdinand v Kompany, Carrick v De Jong, Nani v Nasri, Aguero v Tevez.

Silva is far from a certainty imho.

Ferdinand is the best defender of the lot when fit.

If I had to pick a team to play in a final tomorrow it'd be:

Hart
Fabio Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Toure Carrick
Nani Aguero Silva
Rooney

Maybe Nasri over Nani and De Jong over Carrick depending on form.

I'd go for a line-up like this;

Hart
Rafael Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Toure Anderson
Valencia Silva Nani
Rooney

As good as Aguero and Kompany are I would have to leave them out (Aguero as a result of tactics and Kompany as a result of Rio/Vidic). I rate De Jong but would rather have Anderson alongside Yaya Toure (who is the player that I would prefer most from them). Hart is only ahead of De Gea because he has more experience of the league at this time.
