Nervy game for sure. Celta will have nothing to loose so it ll be down to us.

I think we ll need to control the game and their pace.

Hope for another show than the Anderlecht home game too.

    Nervy 1-1 for me.

    Romero
    Valencia
    Bailly
    Blind
    Darmian
    Herrera
    Fellaini
    Pogba
    Lingard
    Rashford
    Mkhitaryan

Everyone is picking Fellaini but considering we're up 1-0, I think there's a case for picking Carrick to play behind Pogba and Herrera. He's more reliable defensively and is a better passer to deal with them pressing us. Can always just use one sub to get Fellaini on for him after 45-60 minutes of Carrick.

As for the front 3, Rashford has to play and then any 2 of Mkhitaryan, Mata, Lingard and Martial is fine but tough to determine between since Mkhitaryan has struggled, Mata is just coming back, Lingard is doing fine but comfortably the worst of the 4 players and Martial has looked better as a 9 than a winger and Rashford will probably lead the line. At gunpoint I'd go with Martial out left and Mata if he's fully healthy on the right and if not, Mkhitaryan.

Would anyone be at all surprised if we manage to balls this up completely on Thursday?

Well we've bet the house on this game so hopefully the pressure doesn't get to us. Barring any calamitous decisions I think we'll go through. Another first half performance like last Thursday please.

I see a nervy as feck 1-1 draw and plenty of scares in the final minutes.

    So Mou ditched PL then..

Better win the EL now - otherwise he HAS TO get the same punishment LvG got. Can see us losing this 1-2 to be honest.

Really need a goal in the first 20 minutes to calm the nerves and ease the pressure.

Why? To spend another 2 years waiting for his replacement to buy the players he needs?

I'd much rather Jose was given the time to build his squad than anyone else I can think of, and he's already a year into the job. Makes zero sense to sack him.

Celta have now lost 5 in a row. Surely, we won't lose to them, right?

Do we have any players that are a yellow away from missing the final, if we are lucky to get there!!!

Yes, that would be a surprise, I think we'll be okay here. Ajax is a different matter altogether though - they have every chance of beating us should we progress to the final. One game at a time though.

I'm sure we'll end up making this far harder for ourselves then we should do, as that seems to be our style... can see us drawign 1-1 or something like that.

Somebody said you have to get three yellows to miss the final, so unless someone get two yellow to get sent off or a straight red we will be fine.

    Replaced by?

Never said he should be sacked. I just said that IF we fail to qualify for CL Mou has to get the same 'punishment' as LvG did in terms of failing to reach the overall goal. Yet people tend to glorify him for what he's achieved so far and how much better everything is since we've got him. All I was about to say is that in case we miss-out of CL again he should get as much criticism as LvG when he missed the competition.

Nevertheless I really hope that he won't be sacked to soon as this ever-changing of (squad) policy will lead us nowhere!

You said he should get the same punishment as LVG, which was the sack, what's your point?

I think you need to look up what the word "punishment" means.

I mean 'punishment' by the fans/us - not literally though. Nearly everyone (including me) was hoping LvG would be gone by the end of last season because we missed CL. However, we only missed it by goal difference + won the FA Cup. This is a much bigger achievement than Mou so far (as I clearly rate winning the FA Cup higher than the Community Shield & EFL Cup).

Nevertheless the majority is talking about Mous achievements like he did something magical - which he clearly hasn't so far (neither in terms of results nor in terms of playing style). Yes, we play some good football from time to time, however, we've had so many poor performances this year too.

My point is, if Mou doesn't win the EL now and thus fails to bring us CL football next season the fans/we should be honest enough that he 'failed' in his first season.

Just say you want to spank Mou you filthy perv.

Would it be more cruel to leave Romero out for just the final if we make it, or for this game and the final? He has been excellent when he's played, so personally I don't mind if he plays every game for the rest of the season or if he plays none at all and Dave gets them all. I suppose De Gea will at least want a crack at the coveted award that is the Golden Glove.

That's hardly punishment though is it. Punishment in terms of what Van Gaal got was the sack. Bad treatment by the fans came much, much sooner than that but that was because of his awful style of play. The fans didn't actually have to chance to berate him for us failing to finish 4th, since the only game afterwards was the cup final which we won. He was gone just hours after.

I think Romero has earned the right to play in every EL game and I hope he's given that chance.

TBH, its better having all eggs in one basket. You dont want to be carrying around several baskets for all the eggs.
    Or something.

Pogba will make a huge difference. Celta need to score which should leave space for him to exploit with Rashford pace. If we score first it will be good.

If we concede first however... :nervous:

I think it's insane if Romero plays on Thursday or the final. We're not a charity and DDG is one of the top 3 keepers in the world.

Expect us to play well for 20 mins of the match, make very hard work of it but scrape through.

We will not 'go for it' in this game and will try to keep it tight, inevitably leading to a nervy finish.

    Prediction HT 0-0, FT 1-1

I think the 0-1 result sets us up well. However, we'll have to make sure we don't become our own worst enemy by thinking that as it was easy in Vigo it's all over bar the shouting. Out tiredness and inconsistency could betray us as well as the strategy of Mou - he might go for a passing/possession game in the hope of keeping it at 0-0.

I imagine their game plan will be to make sure they don't concede a goal and slowly build up their attacking play in the second half finishing, if necessary, with an onslaught in the final 20 minutes. They may think extra time would give them the advantage as we might tire more than they do.

I think we'll need another goal so there must be an attacking threat throughout the game. One goal for them and they're in a strong position and we're as nervous as hell.

Would love to see us go all out and finish this in the first half, something we've threatened to do at times this season. I have absolutely no faith in Jose's tactic nor our finishing for this to become a reality though.

    I agree with this post.

But I also agree with this one.

Romero has been great this season, but in a way it is illogical to play him over a better keeper in make-or-break games that will define our season and future.

Yes, I never feel confident about what will happen in our games. We are so unpredictable that we don't know if we're going to get the sublime or the ridiculous.
