Don't think that half was as bad as some are saying. Both teams look sloppy in possession. We over play in the final third, it seems like rashford, martial and Pogba all want to beat 3 men before making a pass or shooting.

Midfield is the obvious problem, we just don't have the quality to dominate with the three we have on the field.

Looking forward to the second half, hopefully we improve our ball retention. Thank god the Premier League is back. This weekend has been great!
Defense looks solid, nice to see (shame we wasted last year). De Gea looks better with the new players in front of him. So far all the new guys look better than the players they replaced.

Pogba is meh, plain ole playing to win the game must be boring.

Don't ever start Lingard and Pereira again!

We struggle to create chances against a very poor Chelsea side at home.

    Decent first half display from.

Chelsea started very well and have been unlucky twice with hitting the bar.

We're quicker than last season, AWB is a beast, Maguire and Lindelof solid and Shaw good too.

Midfield lacking, Pogba sloppy on a few occasions.

Lingard missing, Rashford and Martial over complicating and often too close. One needs to feck off and stay on the left and one through the middle.

Decent as I said, we're winning! Bring James on second half

No surprise we struggled with no RW or AW. Shaw also needs to be more aggressive, a lot of crosses from his side, which are causing problems. Get James and Greenwood on for Lingard and Periera.

Pogba, Shaw and Martial were a bit crap, I think, while Lingard did the best personification of Cleverley. Being there, but at the same time not being there.

Maguire was quite good, and AWB had some good moments, and a feck up.

A bit lucky to be up, Chelsea could have easily scored twice.

I will say the obvious. Yes, we need midfielder and winger but reality is that our manager is limited.
8 months and full preseason and solid transfer window( he got 3 players who he wanted) and we see what? Chelsea with some b team players and brand new manager are destroying us. There is no pattern in our game whatsoever. We sit back and wait for some sloppy counters. What is excuse now? He didn't get midfielder? Pogba is lazy?
    Destroying us hahahaha

My views on this so far. Maquire, Lidelof and Aaron has been good. Shaw is poor. The midfield has been pathetic. The less said about Lingard the better. Apart from the penalty Rashford has done nothing. Martial has done nothing.
I think Ole has made a huge mistake in the system. Looks like Pogba is playing the holding role. This is not going to work. None of our midfield players are creative players and none can hold the ball.
Too much flicks and stuff by Rashford, Martial and Pogba. Chelsea is very unlucky not to be a few goals up. Matic needs to come in not because he is good but there is no one else who can play in his position. By putting Pogba in that role he is also negating any positive creativity that Pogba could bring to the team and he needs to be much further forward up the pitch.
Lingard needs to come off and Greenwood in, and take Pereira off for Matic.

We need to get Pereira and Lingard more involved and we are still crying out for a proper midfield playmaker.

Pogba improved near the end of the half, wouldn't be surprised if the back injury is still hampering his mobility and not letting him use his body as effectively when dribbling. He's been pretty disciplined positionally, just needs to keep it simple in possession

Get real moaners. This is exciting stuff. Lots of nervy defending around the box but good counter attacking football. Some wasted opportunities due to poor decision making but this is the first game of the season against top 4 opposition. Not easy. Let's hope we nail it second half.

Can't fault Martial and Rashford without first faulting those who aren't even trying.

We’ve basically picked up from where we left last season. Which is extremely worrying.

The terrible form at the end of last season was apparently put down to fatigue. That is no longer a factor and we are just as poor. We look tactically inept and there is just no chemistry between the players. Rashford and Martial aren’t linking up well and can’t seem to read each other at all. That is a huge concern.

AWB and Maguire decent. Pereira and Lingard shouldn’t have started.

    Number of Touches 1st Half:
    43 - Pogba
    42 - Maguire
    39 - Wan-Bissaka
    37 - Shaw
    32 - Lindelöf
    31 - McTominay
    26 - Martial
    24 - Rashford
    22 - Gea
    19 - Lingard
    13 - Pereira

Lingard and Pereira need to get far more involved. Pereira with the lowest on the pitch.

Hopefully we see James and Greenwood at some point.

James on the left would help Shaw out a lot more than Rashford isn’t.

    Hope, We Lose
    The Good

    - We're ahead somehow. Nice Rashford penalty

    - Pereira is actually taking set pieces. Used to be known as a specialist so it only makes sense when he plays

    - Our midfield have pressed well and won the ball cutting out passing lanes with Chelsea making loose passes in midfield.

    - We've played the ball out of the back nicely 2 or 3 times

    The Bad

    - Despite playing the ball out of the back we've been crap in attack

    - A young and inexperienced Chelsea attack has made our £225 million back 5 look vulnerable defensively, hitting the post twice

    Summary:

De Gea - Looks same old again now, despite Posty saving him twice.

Wan Bissaka - Excellent, best player so far in this match for me

Slabhead - Solid and commanding, just needs to calm those in front of him

Lindelof - Good partnering with Slab, and has done well snuffing out danger

Shaw - the weak link right now in the defense, jogs back to position often

McTominay - very shaking and needs to keep it simple, can't blame him

Pogba - Been very poor, all his influential moments have been helping Chelsea instead of us

Lingard - Been missing aside from taking one good ball down and one good run, other than that, offering nothing

Andreas - Not a winger at all, so can't be disappointed that he is not influencing the game enough, he's dead balls haven't been all that either

Rashford - very clumsy on the ball and has lost it a lot, good steel nerves though on taking the penalty and a great one at that.

Martial - Has not done anything in this game to convince us we can rely on him to be our no.9, but its still early days though, lets see how it goes.

    Post - MOTM so far!!!

Pereira is very underwhelming and Shaw really needs to watch Robertson compilations.

    Wan-Bissaka looks very good.

Still no identity or style of play. What the feck have we been doing all summer...
Not entirely fair, to me we did look different in terms of our pressing. It worked a couple of times and hopefully the players will get better at it as they do it more.

Shaw was extremely slow in getting back when he’s been on an attack. That needs addressing. It’s just lazy

Our defense is much improved. Our midfield is erratic but talented. Our strikers are talented and young.

Our speed was good, but we will run them crazy in the 2nd half.

3-1 united with Pulsic scoring int the last 7 minutes.

People have to calm down. It hasn't been that awful, just some clumsy plays so far but nothing crap or anything of sort. It's been an even game so far.

    I despise our internet fanbase.

Poor 10-15 to start. Got a penalty, well taken by Rashford. Since then much better. Wan Bissaka very good, best player on the pitch possibly.

Ourselves and Chelsea have the toughest first game of the season, no poxy newly promoted whipping boys and no day trip to East London for us. No, we got an actual game... One we are winning.

Could it have been better. Of course it could but we are playing Chelsea, a side who finished 3rd and won the Europa League, not Grimsby FFS...

You are watching the youngest side in the league, mistakes will happen. Better learn to deal with it or you are going to have an aneurysm...

Shaw can't be agressive against 2 men.

Need someone who can make the right pass on the counter.

Pereira and Lingard have been poor although working reasonably hard.

I'd like to see James on the right wing for Pereira or Lingard to get to the touchline.

If only we had just had a transfer window to sort the midfield out and attack.

Back line looks solid. Forwards not in full flow and that happens.

The midfield however looks dire. Pogba not playing well. McT is still learning and Lingard is meh. Pereira however is out of his depth. In fairness we are playing him RW but honestly we hurt ourselves with such a terrible window. The good teams will dominate possession against us as our midfield is dire.
    Our forwards are typically sloppy.

It seem like some of the players are trying to hard to make things happen namely pogba, rashford and martial but other than that decent and the team is growing into the game. The team needs more cohesion but its not as bad as last year so a win.

There has been good things and bad things but trying to play the right way.

Fancy us not being the finished article in the first game against a team that finished above us.

    Anyone understand the verb "support?"
