Most of these players have had a nice long rest since WHU (EIGHT DAYS) @Revan and will be fully recharged and desperate for a game. Shouldn't be a problem for them to smash Hull & then have another 3 days to prepare for Liverpool.
They will totally be rested for Hull, but not sure how rested they will be for Liverpool match if they start against Hull.

Surprised posters still vote for a loss agianst teams like this these days. LVG era fine, but we are flying so high and shitting confidence all over the pitch i cant see anything but us Spanking hull and putting the entire tie to bed by halftime

There is four full days rest until Sunday, play full strength and kill the tie.

    -----------Ibra
    ---Rashford Rooney Micky
    -------Pogba Herrera
    Shaw Jones Smalling Valencia
    ----------De Gea

I think we will see Martial, Carrick and Blind back in for Rashford, Shaw and Rooney for the Liverpool game.

3-1 for our ninth win on the spin.

Ibra in goals and De Gea up front, risky enough ;););)

Why have people always got this hang up about 'rest here, rest there'??? It is what it is. We just have to deal with it. I'd rather be fighting for every competition as we are now. I'm so glad Jose has the right approach and is just dealing with each game as it comes rather than doing the Liverpool crap like against Plymouth.

I think we have one of the best squads in the league, probably only rivalled by Chelsea. I did rate the City first XI but their depth is not as good as ours. Even having a quality backup keeper in Romero is testament to that. I'm struggling to see where the next defeat is going to come at this time.

I'm not worried about the Hull or Liverpool games at all.

There's 5 days between two games and then another 6 before game with Stoke. They'll be fine. If we use a strong team and smash them (seeing the state of their back line at the moment...) then we can afford to rest all key players in the 2nd leg on 26th. Period where we play a game every 3-4 days starts right after that...

Always thought Chelseas side was bascally a first xi with nobody really of use on the bench. Especially in defence which is why the had to call back Ake. They look very thin as a squad but dont need a huge squad since all they have to play for is the EPL and a few FA cup games.

I do think we have a pretty big and high quality depth squad. Which is why alot of us want to save a few of our heavy hitters for what should prove to be a high intensity game vs Liverpool. We should let some of the fringe players have a go and a a start in competetive matches i think. Why play the first XI and risk injury is all some are saying. We will play an extra 2 games more in Europe than Gunners and City. We are playing 2 semi finals and hopefully a final and have progressed in the FA cup. thats a lot of matches. We are competing on 4 fronts. "rest" isnt that bad idea sometimes in my humble opinion

4 days rest is more than enough and i think it's good that the first choice players stay sharp.

Play the strongest team -Carrick -Martial and kill the tie, so we can rest some players in the second leg.

    Zlatan
    Lingard Mata/Rooney Mickey
    Pogba Ander
    Shaw Jones Chris Vale
    DdG

Yeah, the best thing to do is to kill Hull off and rest players in the second leg. Three or 4-0 should do the trick and tbh, I expect that from us now.

I get where you're coming from but a player could be rested, play in a big game then get injured. You just never know what 's going to happen game by game. Resting players does not necessarily prevent injuries (Bailly/Mkhitaryan e.g.). There's enough time between matches for players to be sufficiently rested. I would only put other players in when the results don't matter i.e. 2nd leg against Hull if we hit them for 5 tomorrow. Or haul players off after 60/70 minutes if we're ahead in a game. There's many ways to manage the squad.

I just don't see the point in changing the side just for the sake of it. Each game is equally important at this stage. However, that being said, we do have a deep enough squad to afford some rotation.....so I've probably just contradicted myself there!

Agreed, some of the comments around the web would make you think we had a geriatric team, there's no reason we can't play our best team twice in 5 days, and I think Jose is right to aim to kill off the tie in the first leg.

Our first team players haven't played since Jan 2nd. If they were rested against Hull too, they would be a little rusty when they play Liverpool. We need them to be firing from the first whistle. We should rest only Carrick. Even Martial should play as I feel he needs to play a few games continuously to get into top form.

I see a lot of people are picking Lingard to start on the left, I don't thing he will given Hull will probably park the bus. We'll need someone to stretch the game and stay wide often. Rashford has a big chance to start. I prefer Martial does but I'm torn between the two on who to pick.

Agreed. Completely unnecessary all this talk of resting players. We'll be fine.

5 days is good enough gap for players to recover so it is best if we go with strongest team possible and get a decisive advantage in first leg.
The 2nd leg of this tie is on Thursday night, the weekend after is FA cup 4th round and then PL game vs Hull again midweek followed by Leicester away in league so if we win today by good margin, 2nd leg we can rest players for the run of games after that.

4 oppo fans taking the piss?

Play a strong team, win the tie in the first leg and build up momentum for the Liverpool game.

We have a slight disadvantage playing the first leg at home.

What are the away goals rules in the League Cup?

In order to win the tie in the first leg, we have to ensure that we do not concede. Would hate to lose on away goals (e.g. 2-1 win at home, 1-0 loss away) so we need to be careful. We should be aiming for a 3-0 or 4-0 win in order to turn the second leg into a formality.

I am really looking forward to a Wembley final against Liverpool, so let's please not screw this up.

They're used to decide the tie only in extra time. For example, if we win 2-1 tonight and lose 1-0 at Hull after 90 minutes, it will go to extra time. If the scoreline after 120 minutes is still 1-0, Hull will go through.

    Thanks for that clarification.

Well, we don't need extra time, that would just cause more exhaustion and fatigue with the number of games we're going to have to play. So it would be great to win this tie in the first leg and give some of the squad players some game time in the second leg.

I am predicting a 4-0 win for UTD with goals from Mata, Zlatan (2) and Martial. That would be sweet.

Please let's start with Mata and Martial from the beginning, and not guys like Lingard, Young or Fellaini. Please Jose.

I fully expect us to win.
Can't remember the last time I felt that way.

    Happy days!!
I've been lulled into the same sense of security. I'm thinking let's get 3-0 up by half time then make changes to keep players fit and free of injury ahead of the big game on Sunday.

Can't be that easy, though, can it? :D

I went 3-0 but knowing how badly they're struggling for numbers defensively, this could eaisly end up 5-0 or something.

Strong side, get a few goals, kill the tie and rest the big guns for the 2nd leg.

So am I the only one who thinks Hull will be tough to break down?

Likely to be forced to play 2-3 midfielders in defence. We'll play with our best players rested. Expecting at least a 2-goal margin.

Not too sure about that. Jose did say we will use everything within our power to gain an advantage.

Yeah. I think we'll smash them.
Hopefully you're right. I just think their injuries mean they're even more likely to park the bus and do everything to shut us out, especially as it's over two legs.

Rojo is in the "provisional squad" of 23 players, according to Mirror (I know). Guess it means that he's trained a normal.

2 very good reasons why we should play a full strength team.

Lol, yes you are. So looking forward to this game as in all the games this season. We'll get a few past Hull. I predicted a 3-0 but should be by a bigger margin.

The team to play against Liverpool should start tonight against Hull, get a strong three or four goal margin lead against Hull, then we can rest some in the second leg ahead of Liverpool

Erm, Liverpool is on Sunday, so there'd be no rest before Liverpool...

I expect a strong side tonight. If we've played strong sides in the Europa when playing Thurs/Sun then we will do so again tonight. Play the team that is going to start V Liverpool, get a decent lead then bring off Zlatan, Carrick and Pog after 65mins (Perfect scenario).
