I've no problem with that. . . Quite a common thing they do in Germany, and it's right for EPL.

A referee who has reffed at the highest level giving an honest opinion is far better than a Shearer/Wright/Lineker afraid to offend someone.

Problem with likes of Clattenberg is that his desire to be the centre of attention bordered on the unprofessional, to the point that you'd wonder if he was making key decisions for show and effect. . .
Webb may have reffed at the highest level, doesn't mean he was any good, however and him and Clattenburg are one and the same.

Referees are like the mafia, they refuse to accept responsibility for anything (I accept that it's a difficult job but they don't make it easier for themselves) and Webb's justification for decisions has to be called into question e.g. his justification for the Mata 'offside' goal vs. Palace. It was a joke. He had thousands of screens in front of him and he still insisted he was right.

Wonder if he'll get a tattoo of Mike Riley telling him to go feck himself.

Referees having live press conferences after a move. The game has gone mad.

Webb was still overall a top class referee. Slightly egotistical too but Twattenburg is a seriously nasty piece of work.

Do the Saudis think he will increase viewing figures?
Or do theyou genuinely rate him as a world class referee?
Either way he is a cnut.

Tremendous news - hopefully leads the way for the likes of Dean and Aktinson to follow his lead :D

Good for him. Got his big paycheck at the back off two high profile games in the same year. Worked out nicely for him.

I just hope there is no mistranslation when he gets his tattoo in Arabic.

Good riddance. Problem is, whoever they'll come up with to replace him is likely to be another incompetent plonker to complement the rest of that sorry lot.

It is just showing off really.

Good riddance. Never liked him. Hope he doesn't come back to England after a few seasons there. Remember too many crucial decisions against us which cost us points this season alone. Puts himself center stage above the game itself.

Chances are he'll get a tattoo for moving to Saudi Arabia now.

This 100%.

You get the feeling the fact that he had no talent as a footballer has gnawed away at him his whole life and his refereeing career is an attempt to compensate.

Alright so one less problem on the field, but why that move? Isn't the EPL good enough?

With Webb you get the feeling that he has a genuine passion for 'refereeing'.. almost like in his eyes it is an 'art' as daft as that sounds. His role on BT, obviously it is well paid and in the public domain, so again he wants to be known.. but you still get the vibe, he takes it seriously and doesn't come across the type of guy who'd have gone to Qatar during his prime as a referee. He wanted to be the best referee in the world, nothing wrong with being proud about that.

Clattenburg sees refereeing as a means to an end, no issue with that but don't play the victim about lack of support, you orange permatanned cnut.

Nothing wrong with him moving for money. He was alright.. Loved the cameras, but does the PL have 10 decent refs? He was one of the better ones.

Just saw that press conference of him...what even is this?
I have an intense dislike for him, such a smug and self-absorbed limelight-stealing knob who thinks he is a star, having tattoos of the finals he ref said it all.
In all seriousness, would this move affect his chances of refereeing high-profile matches in the upcoming World Cup?

Live press conference for a referee ffs  Seems proper though for the ref with biggest ego in PL. Atkinson too fecking off will be awesome.

Fair point.

Maybe we should be more magnanimous though. We've suffered several dodgy decisions at his hands, but we also benefitted from his horrific refereeing at Chelsea in 2012, so maybe it all evened itself out in the end.

So good luck Mark. I sincerely, absolutely, 100% hope this sort of thing doesn't happen to you.
