I am not sure why United has signed Mount. I see him as very overrated and have never been a big fan of him. I rate him as a bit better than Lingard and about same level as Fred, but another type of course.

Wonder if all the Mount doubters are the same who say Bruno is overrated every time he misplaces 1 of his 150 passes of the game?

Thing with those who criticise signings etc is that by god they’ll let you know about it if they’re right but you won’t see much if they’re wrong. They don’t like it when you bring that up either.

I dont rate him high either but he is definitely better than Fred or Lingard. Better playmaking ability and more legs than Eriksen offer. Also can score some goals. I would rate this as a 3/5 signing.

What can he do to make that a 4

I don’t rate him high myself but reading through the thread he seems to be really underrated.

he was Chelsea best player two times in a row. Key for their CL run. Fits our profile and is pretty versatile.

the only reason why his value should be lower is his contract situation.

As much as I really like this signing, his impact will not be big unless we address our GK and CF properly. Can't press properly if our CF provides 0 in that aspect, can't build or be press resistant unless we have the option to hold up the ball in attack or play out of the back properly. It's that simple IMO. Will just be way too chaotic unless we address those 2 positions. If we do, then Mount, Bruno and Casemiro will be able to do their thing and be a very strong midfield group.

Last season was really poor from him, maybe his worst so far. But of course you have to remember that he was a part of a team that played poor too and had a big dip in form. I think Mount "disappears" in many games and I often forget that he is on the pitch at all. Last season he scored 3 goals in 35 games.

Last season is essentially write off. The whole team was useless and so were the tactics. He was also injured half of it.

Yay, we’ve (almost) signed someone! I’m now fully aboard the Mason Mount train. Great player!

If anyone can get him back to his best then ETH can. He’ll already have a plan and position for him. Plus he’ll be playing in a team that’s improving rather than a team that’s underperforming.

I will hold judgement but I believe the lad deserves a chance.

I will leave the quote below as a little reminder to the past. "I have not spoken to anybody who, with £18.6m, would have spent it on Carrick," said Mark Longden of the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association. "I can't understand what's going on."

Oh yeah we absolutely have to sign GK & ST without any doubt. Desperately want us to sign Onana/Costa & Hojlund

Always rated him ever since I saw him at his local playground as a 6-year old. Welcome to United Jason Jount (best skills and assists 22/23)

We will, imo, set up as 4141 (or 4123) with Mount and Bruno being the middle two players in the MF. Antony will be on the right, surely.
I just think there will be times when we need Eriksen’s guile in midfield rather than Mount’s energy. But yeah, Antony will get plenty of game time. You don’t spend that sort of money on a player you’ve coached before if you don’t have faith in him. The issue last season was squad depth when we had injuries to key players. Mount has such versatility that I think he’ll be used in a variety of roles.

Exactly. Ferguson brought Carrick because Carrick never lost the ball. He knitted our play together and made the team work better. Fans are useless at seeing the wider team context. I think Mount is similar, he will make the team work better.

What were his injury issues this year? Nothing worrying, hopefully.

It has been well over 10 years of watching United make obviously mediocre signings while clubs in the vicinity pull off amazing moves.

I still vividly remember the frustration with Aguero joining City and United seeing no value in the market.

This summer, United sign Mount for a hefty sum while Chelsea get Nkunku and Liverpool get, among others, Szoboszlai. You cannot make it up.

Mount is objectively not a mediocre player. I genuinely don't know how you could watch him and see his stats and think that.

Ah, yes, the exceptional Nkunku and Szoboszlai. Two players you've never watched play, but because Chelsea and Liverpool sign them, they're indefinitely better than whoever we sign.

I watch Bundesliga on a weekly basis so there is that.

Don’t forget they cost more than our mediocre signing. They are getting so strong

I watch the Bulli as well and although Szoboszlai is the flavour of the week (because let’s be honest nobody was talking about him before his transfer), may I remind you that Sabitzer was as shiny when he played for Leipzig, if not shinier.

Nkunku looks a world beater but so did Sancho at Dortmund.

We'll spend half of our budget on him so hopefully Mount is exactly what ten Hag needs in midfield area. And let's hope he turns out better than last 2 players we signed from Chelsea in Mata and Matić, who were both decent for us but we probably expected more from them.

It's amazing seeing so much defence for Mount. Where were you feckers when I was fighting off the swarm of tits who thought he was "championship level" a couple of years ago?
