Matheus Cunha | Deal close with United (Sky Sports)

only possible reasons is to spread the payments (cashflow)

it wouldnt be much more though surely

€6m probably split into 3 or 4 clauses. A couple of them very achievable and a couple speculative.

So it’s 62.5M euros?

Interesting.

£52M seems like a great deal!

Pretty reliable reports that it's GBP.

I'm souring a bit on this transfer. ~80M EUR on one player with some question marks on him when we have so many problems is kind of insane. He has to instantly elevate us for that money.

Well it's one twitter account quoting figures, take them for what they are before we start moaning about overpaying.

I thought we’d have enough funds to facilitate this even without winning the Europa League, and I also thought we’d be smarter in the transfer market. That’s what Jim said, right?
So why on earth are we paying more than the release clause?
So it can be paid in instalments.

if he is a key target be nice to just get it done early and out of the way. Knowing us it will prob drag a bit once the window does open.

Because you have to pay release clauses in full, where as if you pay more, you can pay in installments, allowing you to have more funds for other transfers, which is smarter in the transfer market.

Ideally we need all our attack before preseason, and a wingback so we can drill the way we will play into the players, I think the earlier the better

I expect this to be announced within 1 day of the Europa League Final !

Then a striker!

Then sell/ release lots of players

Then a goalkeeper, right wing-back, a midfielder or 2, another striker.

Top 6 here we come!

How I wish we would sign two strikers

Maybe learn your lessons from, i don't know the past 10 years plus, where everyone of our transfers gets over reported and inflated with add ons to cause mock out rage for more clicks.

"Man united pay 100mil for anthony martial (includes 40 mil balon d'or winner fee, 30 goals a season 20mil fee etc)".

Omg Sancho is on 350k a week, - this nonsense was touted for years because the press love to hate on us. Turns out he's on 120k. and a little above that with CL.

Even without reported add ons, the press always over report on our fees and wages on purpose for clicks. Keep your knickers on.

It’s not euros, it’s definitely pounds, his release clause was always money upfront or we can negotiate, for the record I think he will be worth the money you pay and I look forward to seeing him play in a united shirt.

What overreporting? The release clause is known. It's being reported. If United wants to pay in installments instead of a lump sum, it's going to cost a few million extra.

I'm more venting at the media, no one here - e.g the english press overreporting how much we're paying by using Euros as per, despite the fact both teams are english.

If he didn't have PL experience I don't think we would buy him for his price tag. There's better players out there but less of a gamble compared to this guy.

I can't remember a single instance of that happening in this case, so I'm not sure what lesson people here should learn or what they should to with their knickers.

Then lose at home first game 0-3 to Bournemouth.

still a bit sceptical on this one. I just hope we don't end up conplaining about this transfers in 2 years. Based on his performamces he'd be a huge addition, but his character and the fee give me hedaches. I will give him a chance though.

I'm more positive, but it's impossible to tell. Some players thrive under the pressure and weight of the shirt i.e. cantona, ronaldo, zlatan. Others find it too much and don't get to the heights we expected i.e. berbatov, Sanchez etc.

Time will tell.

I just hope he can be more calm with us without losing his winner mentality. Hate unreliable players who gets us unnecesary red cards. Especially in or before big games.

Redcafe told me that 95m euros for Antony was worth it when we signed him, along with every other huge money flop we've had in recent years. The fee for Cunha is nuts, he really isn't worth anywhere near that amount.

He's been one of the best players in the premier league this year. What in your opinion is he worth?

Explain then why we're ahead of every team for transfer spend in the last decade? According to our accounts btw. Explain why our wage bill has been consistently in the top 3-5 in world football for a decade? Let me guess, it's the ABU media inflating the reporting figures in our accounts too?

He's been a top 20 maybe, but "one of the best players in the league" is a bit far-fetched. I'm with the poater above that his fee is a tad too much. But it's his release clause so what can we do against it..

He's been a big fish in a very small pond. His work ethic is appalling, his disciplinary record is concerning and his output has been good, nothing amazing. I'd say he's worth around £50m tops. He's worth what the likes of Jota went for to Liverpool or Mane, with some inflation to account for the £50m figure.

We have not actually spent the most. We have the biggest net spend, because other clubs (City and Chelsea) have been able to sell players, and we have been poor. There are two sides to the coin, and we have been bad at both. That’s but to say out transfer business has been good (it clearly has been appalling), but you are factually incorrect.

Yep I think he's a 40-50M player. Not a ~65-70M player. I understand the urgency and the need to improve immediately but making expensive transfer mistakes is the reason we're in the mess in the first place. They better be absolutely certain that this is going to work if they're spending that kind of money. It's not good enough to put up Garnacho numbers next season (21 G+A / 55 apps) at that fee, he has to be significantly better than that. And I won't really accept handwavy, he makes our general play better or whatever. We're paying superstar money, so he needs to put up superstar numbers.

Safe to say you and @Devil_forever will be at him from the minute he walks through the door and absolutely jumping on any mistakes he makes or chances he misses too.

No, not that cruel :)

I'm a data guy so I'll definitely wait until there's a decent sample size. Missing sitters is fine, as long as he's consistently getting into that situation and putting up xG, xA numbers. I also happen to like Garnacho despite all of the shit he does to infuriate us.
