Yeah that was mint. Only other ones as excited for since would be Berbatov, van Persie & Bruno to an extent.Never been quite as excited about a transfer than when we signed him and Nani. Take me back.

Haha same, I was working in my post Uni job at JD SportsI remember exactly where I was when RVP was confirmed
You just knew we were winning the title when that was confirmed.
That Gremio (or was it Porto) YouTube clip where he pulled off an outrageous trick on the touchline and skinned a defender ... salivation stuff!Never been quite as excited about a transfer than when we signed him and Nani. Take me back.
Who's that redcafe guy?Redcafe told me that 95m euros for Antony was worth it when we signed him, along with every other huge money flop we've had in recent years. The fee for Cunha is nuts, he really isn't worth anywhere near that amount.

Redcafe vibes bros said all this.
Anyone who works in data/analytics raised a ton of criticisms about his price tag which you can see going back through the thread at that time.
Analytics teams love Cunha, the vibes bros all think Garnacho is young Ronaldo.
I will say it's hilarious seeing the vibes bros citing Cunha's XG overperformance as a reason to not sign him or claim he's overrated but then pull out Garnacho with 21 G/A in all comps leaving out most of these are against Barnsley or relegation sides. That's before we get to metrics like through balls/key passes/chances created/crossing etc etc
Analytics teams love Cunha
So you think bad signing then?[Citation Needed]
All the analytics folks say the release clause is an overpay and he's a 40-50m player. He's overperforming his xG significantly (high variance player) and so when that variance does not work out in his favor, pressure could ramp up very quickly. The variance / chaos could be useful in a team like Arsenal that are hugely methodical and don't take very many risks. For us, first we need to get to Arsenal's level before introducing the chaos.
What would you say is a fair price for someone with 27 goals in their last 63 Premier League games, for a team struggling near the bottom of the table?Redcafe told me that 95m euros for Antony was worth it when we signed him, along with every other huge money flop we've had in recent years. Taking cheap punts for Brighton is far less risky than at United. These are my full thoughts: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/antoine-semenyo.487568/post-33223312
tl;dr He'll be probably be good but it's very risky paying these big fees outside some really special players like your Wirtzes and Mbappes of the world. If we were, say a Brighton or any other club that's outside the top six, the normal way to do this would be to use analytics, take multiple cheap punts, squad build carefully so the players all peak at the same time and go from there. The need for instant success is what has caused so many problems for us in the past. Let's see. I hope I'm wrong and he hits the ground running.
This isn't even true though. Just taking Brighton, as your example, they've spent £35m+ on Rutter, £30m on Minteh, £30m on Joao Pedro and other relatively big sums for players who hadn't really performed. The only real recent examples where they did the cheap punts that worked are Caicedo, Mitoma and MacAllister. These are my full thoughts: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/antoine-semenyo.487568/post-33223312

He's hardly a beggars choice. Think he has the grit and skill to help drive us. Him and Bruno behind a real striker would be a deadly attack. Just hope we get the right striker for it to work.Beggars can't be choosers. We're fecking diabolical up top. We need quality and decent forwards are very rare these days. Rather spend on proven PL players.

He's the exact type of player we need in attack.I'm saying more that if we have to overpay a little then so be it. There's not really any standout options and we're desperate.

The two best possible strikers are seemingly going to Saudi and Arsenal respectively so need to look at plan BWe must obtain the best possible striker for a fee within whatever club management have set at the maximum they will spend for said striker. It really doesn't matter if we think Player ABC is worth 30m. If we think he's the best striker we can get for 60m assigned for that position then let's spend 60m. It's that simple.

How is he on the ball? Is he good enough to shield it against tough defenders or get out of tight spots with his dribbling/ball skills? Is his passing good?Cunha is not a striker. Hes a LWF / 10
He cuts in from the left like Rashford or does a bit of roaming around.
But don’t confuse him with a striker
He’s very good on the ball. Whenever I’ve seen him I’ve never seen him out fought or constantly giving the ball away. In my opinion he’s a very solid purchase and will bring a bit more oomph to the team. How is he on the ball? I feel whoever we buy for the #10 spot should be really good on the ball. I am tired of seeing our players give the ball away cheaply or get outmuscled when on it. Our defense & midfield are constantly under too much pressure because of our attackers keep giving the ball away cheaply.
He could operate as a striker though, especially considering the lack of available top quality out and out strikers. Could absolutely see him being a great false 9.Cunha is not a striker. Hes a LWF / 10

Wolves fans in this thread have told us that he hasn’t been great in the 9 when they have tried. He could operate as a striker though, especially considering the lack of available top quality out and out strikers. Could absolutely see him being a great false 9.
If we get a goalscoring wide forward like this though, we mightn’t actually need a top class striker. Just someone who can either drop deep and play with his feet to assist more, or a big lad to hold it up. Liverpool don’t really play with a proper striker anymore and look at Salah.
Could be a Cantona type, very hot headed but if it can be channeled in the right way, could be brilliant, 50-60m at todays rates seems about right.Wolves fans in this thread have told us that he hasn’t been great in the 9 when they have tried.
He does his best work coming in from the wider areas or breaking onto a ball around the edge of the box
Yeah I think so too. He’s shown that he can handle the PL. I get the feeling that he’s gonna explode upwards on his next move, like Mane did. Hopefully it’s United that benefit this timeCould be a Cantona type, very hot headed but if it can be channeled in the right way, could be brilliant, 50-60m at todays rates seems about right.
I already adored van Persie, that was amazing.
