I mean that's not really how it works. By implementing a strategy of social distancing, non-essential contact and self isolation we are making sure that it actually lasts longer than if we didn't implement said strategy. The quicker everyone gets infected, the quicker everyone builds up an immunity HOWEVER that would put huge strains on our hospitals and likely result in large amounts of deaths. This is going to last until next year. I have a feeling that the only football we're going to get for a long time is maybe the completion of the CL and Europa behind closed doors, or perhaps the completion of the league behind closed doors.
Next year or two without proper actions the virus can modify it's DNA and mutate into something different, then take another toll and we'll be in the same spot talking about catching it again for the sake of immunity. Then economy will take another hit and danger of another cancelled season will rise, not too mention few more years and risks of riots will start emerging like in typical scenario where people are not presented with a solid solution.
I agree with you in huge part about social distancing, but I don't believe everyone should catch it and we can still use science to protect the weaker who's immune system can't beat it by itself.
Right now I'm at the point in making next winter window bigger, that is if pandemic is reasonably contained to the point of no bigger spread. Clubs will have to probably pay more for transfering player from one league to another but still it could be done under strict sanitary measures.
