He's what Nunez thinks he is. Physical freak who can outrune and outmuscle himself into scoring positions.

In that season Messi scored 73 goals in 5,221 minutes. That's a goal every 72 minutes. Amazing.

So far Haaland has scored 42 goals in 2,871 minutes. That's a goal every 68 minutes....
But Messi is Messi, not just a goal scorer. A genius of a footballer.
Halaand is like a perfect machine. Just so fecking efficient. But he doesn’t make football an art, like Messi does.

All the other big clubs who could afford him missed out too and were stupid to not sign him...but only blame United?
An odd argument on a Manchester United forum. Obviously most of us will not be disappointed that... other big clubs didn't sign him. That would be strange.

Sure, no argument from me on that front.

Yes he does. They both are. Comparing them is silly, as they are totally different types of players. Stats are for the future, as the one is 22.

What’s the record for hat tricks in a season amongst the top leagues in Europe and who holds the record?

Europe ….No idea

Prem… Aguero 12 hat tricks in 10 years
Prem… Shearer 5 hat tricks in one season

Who genuinely cares about this guy???

He chose city to ensure the most payments made to the most people were made and him, his Dad and his agent have benefitted accordingly

Well done for scoring loads of goals but your employers are a bunch of absolute cheating cnuts and therefore they unfortunately, IMO, go with a massive * next to them to say ‘cheating cnut’ and therefore I don’t care about them** The club’s titles and your ‘records’ will always be followed by this * whether officially or just in my head.

But, you knew that and signed anyway because it’s financially worth it and you don’t care about most things other than money.

So, feck off

Unless the league ends decided on goal difference, I'm not sure if there's many results from them that would've been different with another good 9 upfront.

They would have beaten Leipzig and Burnley if he scored 5, 3, 1 or none.

That might change if he does well in the latter stages of the CL, the fa cup final or if they win the league because of him.

He is a giant Inzaghi.
Exactly what I think when I see him too. Lives on the offside line. Has the same knack of reading a breaking ball too.

If Inzaghi had a baby with an Ice Giant it'd be Erling.

Mbappe can do as many resultless stepovers for the fans as he wants.
Mbappe is the better player.

If my team is struggling i rather have Mbappe than Haaland.

Haaland requires the midfield to have a very good game, cause even the close games that City had he was meh, and has mostly showed when his was dominating the opposition, which most of the time were inferior teams that were underdogs against City.

Let's see what he does against Bayern, cause City aren't gonna dominate that game the way they did with Leipzig and Burnely.

I think this generation or people in general are getting dumber and dumber these days. The obsession with stats and arguing that it makes a better player (no matter position or context). No point to watch games anymore, right? This generation is full of excel sheet merchants. If anyone argues that scoring more goals than other player makes you better, then by your own logic Gerd Muller is the GOAT of the sport.

He´s not Messi, but he´s just a freak goalscorer, which isnt a bad attribute for a striker. No one has ever done what he is doing in the PL and its just his first season here at what 22/23?

Mbappe is scoring less on a team in France that is so stacked against the competition its almost a farce. Is it PSGs fault that he so often comes up short on the scoresheet?

Are we doing a thing now where we will only evaluate a players contribution based on one variable we pick ourselvs for the duration of a entire season? Haaland already scored 4 times against Bayern in the Bundesliga. What team is on the opposite side of the pitch does seem to be relevant.

When it comes to putting the ball into the back of the net, the game in Europe has never seen anyone better at this age. The chasm between him and the rest is akin to the first mob you see in Elden Ring not being a trusty goat, but a yoked out double decker bus with swords.

The only tournament we can compare their contributions to is the Champions League, so lets look at the measurable goal output. Below is the list of the players fastest to 10,20 and 30 goals in footballs premiere competition. Every team plays the "filler" teams. There is no excuse for any of the giants of the game to not have scored more than they have outside of ability for the period. 25 games to 30 goals is twice the scoring rate of Benzema, and almost twice the scoring rate of the best player to ever play the game.

If we go by club the goals are spread like this:

Salzburg: 6 games, 8 goals
Dortmund: 13 games, 15 goals
Man City: 6 games, 10 goals

Salzburg is not exactly a giant in the tournament, Dortmund is a playoff team without a real shot at challenging, and the only team that can win the CL of the three is City where the goal ratio remain the same, and only a tiny bit elevated.

In fact, Haaland has scored against every single team he has played against in the Champions League bar two: Ajax (1) game, and Manchester City (2 legs)

Honestly, if my team is looking for a goal I want someone to just hoof it at Haaland and let him run at it. Going by numbers alone, that has a significantly higher chance of giving a positive outcome than hoping that Mbappe does something on his own.

There isnt an argumen against Mbappe being a significantly better overall player, technical ability, agility and playmaking. Just like there isnt an argument that Haaland scores the goals regardless of team he plays for, be it Salzburg, Norway, City or wherever.

Haaland doesn't need to be Messi. He can't play football that is what my eyes tell me. He can be discussed as a future great striker by the trajectory he is going, but not in any GOAT debates.
The only striker in football history that can be in GOAT debates can be R9 and that's it.
R9 wasn't Messi but could play football and score goals.

And Iniesta, Zidane and Xavi would be crap players. But I think if Haaland keeps this remotely up then he will be rightfully regarded as an All Time Great player. What this discussion also shows yet again what a "freak" Messi was in his prime. As good a Goalscorer as Haaland and you can even argue better if you look at the repertoire and difficulty of many of his goals. And outside of Goalscoring he's not even remotely a match to Messi.

Nonsense, Iniesta, Xavi and Zidane all scored super high in statistics related to their positions.

Did Haaland use HGH or anabolic steroids? His facial features look like he roided out. Not even sure if that stuff is banned anymore? He seems to have had quite the prodigious growth spurt to get up to 6’5” when his dad was only 6’1”.
I think he's just ugly

While I agree that Mbappe is a fantastic player, Mbappe is not the player you would want in a struggling team.
Doesnt track back. In fact he doesn't do any defensive duties at all. Is petulant when he doesnt get the ball. Basically everything you dont want from a player in a bad team.
At least Haaland looks like a guy who wouldn't give up.

Nah, he is the spitting image of that Norwegian actor in Ragnarok. That just a Norwegian ethnic trait. Give the guy a break

Edit: pretty sure anabolic steroids are still banned:houllier:

Never said he was goat candidate. But Gerd Müller is criminally underrated. No he´s not in the top 5, but I don´t think people outside of Germany rate him enough. I know team mates hype up their own, but ask Beckenbauer what it was like to defend against Müller in training.

Genuine question, what are the facial features that you associate with steroid use? Never heard of any.
If they are to match with Haaland, they would be closely set eyes and pouty lips, but that sounds a bit off.

Mbappé is very much the kind of player you want if your team is struggling due to his ball carrying ability. He's a one man attack. Whereas Haaland is strictly a finisher

Mbappe is very much the kind of player you would want if you're going to play terrorist football with a top-side that isn't amongst the very best due to him literally being the best counter-attacking player in the world.
But on an actual bad team? Hell no.
He needs players to feed him accurate long balls for him to run into space.
He's not finding another Messi,Neymar,Di Maria or Bernardo on a bad team.

He has ghosted plenty of big CL ties in the past few years and PSG's best run came when Neymar was leading the team not him.
