Nostalgia Draft - Winner - Isotope

I've never been any good at the draft timing stuff, just pick players according to how important they are to my plans vs depth of alternatives left.

Gattuso was part of my "depth" and probably would get more highly rated so for a moment there I was tempted to pull a @Šjor Bepo on you. But nah, Daniele can play a more defensive or offensive midfield role and save my ass if Sammer happens to get injured. We would both end up with the wrong player really

In hindsight, just like @Šjor Bepo going early with Schweini / Davids probably wasn't the wisest move considering the depth of options in CM/B2B is great and even now I can find solutions that can work within the style I want to implement.

In the same time in the beginning of the draft the CM options were absolutely crucial to get done and make sure they are the top ones so they mesh well with Goofy.

Swings and roundabouts but probably those that went with wide options might be the ones that can get some advantage in the end of the drafting stage considering how it went.

Ultimately I guess it's down to the core concept you want to build around and how much you are willing to ride your luck and get someone fit for purpose to then be upgraded later. The upgrade is usually 1 or 2 players that may just happen to not become available. That used to be a lot worse when we upgraded from spoils of war.

At this stage the picks sort themselves out really because it's not about the name but the actual fit. The problem though is once you make everything fit it's not necessarily the case that upgrades will be all upside with no downside/need for tinkering. I'm also a bit worried about some I've left for the "sub rounds" because no one would pick them. An injury to a sub round takes away a starter while everyone is like "hmmm, okay, sub gone".

All in all, the first two "Dr. Segura Pep Shake" picks are huge and when you look at the starting pairs, I'd be surprised if the winner isn't one of these, whatever happens/ed after you will keep returning to those first two picks establishing a concept and direction:

Like him I have 3-4 others I've been cracking my head trying to work out how to fit but, at the same time, don't like the notion of picking them and making them sit on the bench. The unpicked XI would look the dog's bollocks if it weren't so imbalanced.

Beyond Maldini I've not really thought out many picks. Just look at my squad each round and see what positions are missing rather than banking on which could be left till later.
