Does anyone know the most goals a 17/18 year old player has ever scored in a top flight league, in a single season? We might need Greenwood to beat it.
Probably Micheal Owen with 18 for the PL.

We'll need Martial, Rashford and Greenwood to all chip in plenty.

Lots of questions about our attack, can Rashford and Martial step up and score 40-50 goals between them? I have no idea, I like to think they could though!

EDIT: 40-50 goals is an insane total, they scored 10 each in the PL last season, if they can go up to 15-20 each it'll be an improvement!
Agreed. Last season, 22 goals got you the Golden Boot. It seems implausible that both Rasford and Martial would both be on pace to be Golden Boot winners.

To be fair to Lingard he was only 1 goal behind him last season with 5 goals to Van Dijks 6. He even tied with 4 goals in the league with Van Dijk.
Not bad.

Nowhere near enough.

If we're lucky, Rashford gets 15-20 in the league. Too wasteful and a bit over-rated.

Martial's inconsistency and poor attitude isn't going anywhere. 10-15 if we are lucky.

Greenwood? Will be lucky to score 2-3 in the league, won't get a huge amount of gametime.

Sanchez? Will be lucky to score 2 in the league, if any.

I think Greenwood may get past 5 league goals and he'll end up playing more and more because of the dross we have. Think he will be a starter before the season ends

For perspective sake:
In 2016/17, Lukaku and Sanchez scored a combined 49 goals in the PL. Last season they scored a combined 13 goals.

That's a drop of 36 (!) goals.

No disrespect to the lad but I'm a bit shocked our only attacking reinforcement was James.
Isn’t and never will be a Utd player, even in this current squad where the bar is set so low, Bebe was a better footballer than this lad. It’s not his fault, he’s just not good enough. A truly bizarre signing.

There is one bright side. Greenwood is going to get A LOT of playing time.

But ya you guys on paper have a woeful attack.

The defence is looking solid, that is a good basis to attack more freely which we have not had, that should not be overlooked, Rashford, Martial, Sanchez, Gomes, Lingard, James and Greenwood, there is pace, goals and creativity mixed among that bunch, however this is the biggest puzzle for Ole and the coaching staff to solve, they need to get something out of them, we need to form cohesion and understanding amongst the group through coaching, there is a lot of young players in there, even Rashford and Martial are still young but they need to step up, we are relying on them to up it big time, this is the route we have gone and I really hope it develops well as it feels like Manchester United again, I have to say looking at the tour matches, when Greenwood, Gomes and Chong were involved it transformed us in to a fresh attacking and exciting team.

If only Rashy and Tony were as good as they are in Fifa, we might have been in for some goals this season.

Selling Lukaku without planning replacement is a really bad move. Both Rashford and Martial are not proven goalscorers. If he is depending on greenwood - let us dream he must be the next owen or Rooney.

I don't think it was a case of not planning a replacement - the plans fell through and we most likely aren't hearing about one or two of them.

I always thought Lukaku was a nice bloke but he didn't really do too much in his time with us. I think the reason Ole was determined to allow him to go was not so much because of attitude although he showed plenty of it in the wrong way in his last month with us. He just doesn't fit the playing pattern Ole wants United to play.

Lukaku just doesn't seem flexible enough mentally to change his style or try different ways. Good luck at Inter with those fans, no matter how much the slower pace will suit him.

Regardless of the fairytales being related across the sporting world such as in professional US basketball and football as in real football and not throwing a ball and wrestling, PEDs are a significant problem. It's getting harder to detect some of them and the NBA for one has rolled over for players so we will never hear of any busts going on there, not while those big names are still playing anyway.

I've always had my suspicions about Lukaku and if United did too then no wonder we were so keen to get rid of him. As for Sanchez, much as most of us want him and his obscene undeserved salary to go, who knows what could happen when he is fit? I'd say Ole's man management is looking wiser and wiser, possibly he might give Sanchez a run and we might have to eat our words.

Doubt you'd ever seen the lad play before pre-season more than once. To write off a kid before he's even played a proper game is laughable.

Massive season for rashford and more so martial. This needs to be the take off season for martial, don't think he will have another chance to nail his position down at united,if this season is another hit and miss season. He could well be gone next summer. As for rashford he is here long term and needs to show he is able to be one of the main men constantly

I must admit the same for your post. Isn't and never will be worthy of this forum. It's not your fault. Truly bizarre that mods gave you 10 likes to post garbage like this.

Wow. I haven’t replied to anything in a while but that is honestly one of the worst posts I’ve ever read. Dan James is a young prospect, signed cheaply who hasn’t even played a full game for us yet. Give the lad a chance ffs.

I'd try to be as optimistic and realistic at the same time.

If we agree that injuries and lack of fitness caused the team's slump towards the end of last season, then there's something to look forward too. Acquisition of Maguire and AWB would cut down the goals we ship. AWB would give us more threat and will service the attackers better from the right, as that wasn't the case with Young. Maguire playing from the back will help with transition and and chances created.

I could see Rashford and Martial having 15 goals each. I hope Sanchez replicates some sort of form and hits 10 goals. I expect about that many from Pogba. I can see the defense chipping in with around 6 goals - 3 from Maguire and 1 each from the rest.
Greenwood, Lingard, Gomes, James and Pereira could contribute with another 15, which is achievable. And then another 4/5 goals between Matic, Fred and McTomminay.

The total adds to roughly 75. Add 1/2 own goals to that and we look somewhat healthy. If we manage to keep 15 clean sheets then on paper we look good.

Since OGS took over last year, we scored 35 goals in 21 games. That's good for 1.66 goals per game. Stretch that out over a 38 game season and that's 63 goals. Not great, but it's also with Ole just taking over and not having a proper preseason to stamp his style on the team. It also takes into account our horrible end to the season. I for one am totally buying into Ole's vision of young, hungry players. I also expect to see Rashford have a break through season this year. Let's not forget, he is only 21 but he is already good enough to lead the line at our great club. I also won't be surprised to see Sanchez show his worth this year. But I don't think it will be on the wing. I think it will be in the #10. He is a perfect fit for Ole's pressing style. He works his ass off and I think he will earn the supporters respect this year. I also think we will see a lot from Greenwood this year even though he is still really young. This kid has talent and is going to be a star for years to come. When all is rolling I expect this to be our starting 11 this year, and I will put this up against any team in the league no matter how much most of you want to moan...

-----------------------De Gea-----------------------
AWB---------Lindeloff------Maguire---------Shaw
------------McTominay-------Pogba---------------
James/Greenwood----Sanchez--------------Martial
---------------------Rashford----------------------

This team under Ole's vision will score 80 goals this year. Mark my words...

Seen him play for Swansea and Wales before pre-season, an extremely limited footballer, Would never have got through our Academy system.
Sanchez scored 30 2 seasons ago but looks like there is no place for him in this team and rightly so probably... big pressure on
rashford. If lingard plays and finds form he should get in the teens like the season before last. Hopefully pogba gets 10 and martial 15... He got 10 last year and was mostly hopeless... then there is possible mandzukic and maguire up from the back... although we have no delivery
Sanchez got the goals because he had a decent team around him especially in midfield. All he has had at MU is a big hole behind him . Last year players were not playing tippy tappy i.e not running into spaces or to help each other.
There was no comradeship, just too many sulking warriors.
We still have a few of these left and I'm not so sure that Oly will be able to cut it out, it's too engrained.

I hope Sanchez comes good but I have my doubts.A central role might be the answer and you certainly can't fault his work rate without the ball which hopefully with the way Ole wants to play means a big season for him.I'm looking forward to seeing Martial play a proper 38 game season, he is looking sharper than I can ever remember.Fred also needs to deliver, I must be one of the few people on this forum who actually likes him.He is the type of midfielder we need next to Pogba, sitting deep , receiving the ball and moving it on.

80 goals is a bit optimistic but i'm hopeful that we can get somewhere near it.A stable defence will give the players ahead of them more confidence to play with an attacking swagger and for once we have that defence.

Nobody thinks we can get near the top two but I don't think we're as far off as some might think.

The problem is depth. Our starting 11 aren't bad even though they are like 2-3 years away from being fantastic if Woodward doesnt pull the trigger again.

However, there is a massive fall off once any one of them gets injured.

Scrolling through here. Sanchez to come good. Martial and Rashford to step up. Greenwood will chip in

Sanchez hasnt performed for 2 years. 2 years guys. How the hell is he suddenly going to come good. 3 goals in 2 years in the league
Martial - Never scored more than 11 league goals in a season
Rashford = Never scored more than 10 league goals in a season
Greenwood - looks exciting looks a good prospect but needs time and to be integrated slowly

Where are the goals in the team

I think that selling Lukaku was a big mistake. He is 26 years old and the main striker for the number one ranked national team in the world. With the proper guidance he could yet develop into one of the world's greatest strikers. The man is fast, 2 footed, big and strong, he just had to work on his clumsiness, yet Ole preferred a player with less weapons, Rashford to play ahead of him. With no CL we cannot attract the world's best players yet a lot of our fans are happy to get rid of the few that we have. Many even wanted to get rid of Pogba.
now we are stuck with a selfish Rashford who potentially may come good and a whimsical Martial.

we didn't score anything liken enough goals last season and we've weakened ourselves in central midfield and up front... genius move. sorry but Ole is showing is lack of experience
