Hey Spoony, check this out it may interest you...since you seem to like the stadium architecture thing (I do too)

it's a link to every college gridiron football stadium here in the States...has loads of pictures for each one as well as capacity stats.

just click on the conferences to look at each school...the biggest state schools have the biggest stadiums, such as Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Tennessee etc...

good stuff if you are itnerested.

Dont forget the Crimson Tide.
That Michigan stadium is feckin huge. 111,000 crowds. Breathtaking

Well, I can't compare with amatuer american sport. so, I'll take what you lot are saying. But I would be surprised if it matched the atmosphere at games during the 70's and 80's. Sadly we had a hooligan element and it was scary at times, but it helped create an amazing atmosphere. . . almost like a catch 22 situation.

I will got through those Flash. I think you've got some fine stadia. Especially love the older Baseball grounds. Also Miller Park, it's got a nice retro style. you've also got some amazing NFL stadia.

and post the links I'll check them out.

good point Spoon...the hooligan element was VERY passionate...but as the game as become more "family friendly" over there and the grounds went all seater much of that fantastic atmosphere has been lost...we were fortunate to obviously have not had a "hoolie element" so most of those college stadiums have remained with bench seating and I would put them ahead now, because ironically as English crowds have become more tame/family friendly, or stadiums, especially collegiate, stadiums have been becomeing a lot more wild...sort of weird...

here are a few of college stadiums

University Of NEbraska Memorial Stadium 73,500 capacity

University of Tennessee - Neyland Stadium 104,000 + capacity

Insane that so many watch college games.
it's great stuff Richter...much better than the pros IMO...

I have always been a huge fan...

for example, I can rarely watch a pro football game that doesn't involve my team playing unless it's the super bowl and due to regional TV restrictions, i may only get to watch 6-8 of their games a year.

College Football though, If I'm not watching my team, there are still so many intenese rivalry games from different regions of the country that it is easy to watch because they are playing with so much passion etc.

Having the most Championships doesn't mean you have richest history, it just means you have richest trophy-case.

The Cardinals, Red Sox and Cubs all have histories just as vibrant as the Wankees.

Besides, the best player in history never played on your team, so you don't have that either :).
Babe Ruth is hands down the best player in history.

And this is my fav college stadium. Seats just over 80,000 burnt orange clad Longhorn fans, though they've managed to get crowds over 84,000 inside (think about 4,000 were standing room only).

Oh, and God's fav pro stadium. The hole in the roof is so he can see his fav gridiron football team play ball, the legend says. ;)

night game

Flash puts up pics of every college stadium under the sun but forgets perhaps the influential of them all--The Rose Bowl.

ahem...I was going to put up the L.A. Coliseum and The Rose Bowl very last...since they are technichally not "college" stadiums. :p

USC and UCLA are mere tenants so there. ;)

Ruth
.342 lifetime batting average
714 homeruns
2213 runs batted in
2873 hits in 8399 at bats
2062 walks to 1330 strikeouts
2174 runs scored
506 doubles
136 triples (astonishing for a fat man)
.474 on base percentage
.690 slugging percentage
5793 total bases

And...
94-46 won-loss record
2.28 earned run average
107 CG in 148 starts w/17 shutouts

And...
1x AL batting champ
10x AL on-base percentage leader
14x AL slugging leader (all consecutive)
10x AL runs scored leader (all consecutive)
6x AL total bases leader
12x AL homerun leader
6x AL runs batted in leader
11x AL walks leader
7x AL extra base hits leader
1916 AL earned run average leader

And he didn't choke in postseason...
.326 BA, 15 HR, 33 RBI, 37 Runs, .467 OBP, .744 SLG
2-0 (3 GS), 0.87 ERA, 2 CG, 1 Shutout
7x WS champion (against WS 3 losses)

Cobb was a great player, though a racist and hated by his peers. In the WS, he choked 3 times. Hit .262 and had an OBP of .314.

Of course, had Ted Williams not served 2 separate tours for the military (WWII and Korean War, lost nearly 5 full years to service), he'd probably own or have owned nearly every offensive record.

Great as Ruth was his stats in his peak years were helped by having Gehrig hitting behind him. Williams is the greatest hitter of all time, but Ruth is the greatest player - the fact he was an excellent pitcher as well clinches that argument.

I don't know if he was better at his sport than those other guys were at theirs, but Ruth was the best baseball player. In addition to all his greatness offensively, he was 94-46 as a pitcher.

Ruth
136 triples (astonishing for a fat man)
In his early days as a major leaguer, the Bambino stood 6'2" and weighed in at 215--hardly a fat guy. He had the speed necessary for triples, stolen bases, and playing center field. His nutritional habits weren't the best, but like Elvis Presley, the image he left with doesn't do justice to the way he started.

As far as Ruth's pitching goes, he held the Series record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched (29 in 1918) until Whitey Ford broke it in 1961.
