Nice statement. Good luck to him. Arseholes will bang on about the wages, but actually making it to the top and then watching your body fall apart must be horrendous.

Thankfully, for his and the club's sake, its finally over.

Very unlucky with injuries, completely killed his career unfortunately. Mind was willing, body wasn't able.
Best of luck

Best of luck to him. Sounds like he's done everything asked of him medically/physically wise. Injuries can have a major impact on mental health at an amateur level, I can't imagine it at a professional one.

Such a shame it never worked out for him. Had enough talent to succeed. The club should have made a tough call a long time ago, but that's not Phil Jones' fault.

Hope he finds success in whatever he decides to do next.

Welcome to United twitter. Full of toxic twats.
Certain threads on this site arent that much better. People laughing and enjoying Pogba his latest injury for example.

Im glad Phil Jones is leaving. Might sound harsh but Manchester United has no use for players who are always injured. I did like him as a player in his years when he was still a footballer. Without the injuries and more games played he would have gotten the experience to get his mistakes out of his game. He would have been a fine defender in that situation. A very good defender even. He was fearless on the field, risking his body and not too bad on the ball even. Im certain that a fit and developed Phil Jones would have prevented the purchase of Harry Maguire.

Too bad it didnt really work out in the end. I wonder what he will do now... will he look for a new club? Will a club even consider taking him?

Hope Maguire gets the same respect.

Has been bullied a bit much by his own fans.

He was so promising those first couple of seasons. I remember his first few games he was played at RB a couple of times and went on these mad bursting runs from deep. Brave as feck, comfortable on the ball. I’ll try remember that period rather than the lows that followed. So sad what injuries can do.

Feel had for players who are permanently injured. Their bodies just give up on them and they can't take the regular football. Never understand the hate people have for those players. Being someone who goes through injuries pretty regularly, you have no idea the self frustration you have and how you would give anything just to get rid of those injury issues. Guys like Martial, Pogba, Jones, Hargreaves before... It's unfortunate.

Good luck to him and thank god its finally over.

I think retirement is next. He's never shown great desire for regular football so I don't see him dropping down multiple levels to get it now.

Without injuries he would have been brilliant defender. Good luck to him and wish him well.
The reason behind his injuries is the way he played football. Unfortunately some players aren't able to mature.

Would have been an all-time great, the level he played at as a late teen or in his early 20's, even in midfield, he was very good.

I was convinced Smalling and Jones would be the United and England partnership for the coming years. Smalling has managed to revive his career, Jones didn't have that same luck.

Should have never been offered that contract, but that isn't his fault, nothing bad to say about him as a person or player. Wish him the best.

We should also be grateful to Phil Jones for becoming a litmus test as to what kind of United fan someone is.

Whether you feel with him in what is likely truly rough to handle, no matter the amount of money you earn, and appreciate that he always gave his all when on the pitch, being as far from a prima donna you can get.

Or whether you hold grudges against him for not playing as much and as well as you feel you deserve as a fan of Manchester United, the world's biggest club. And taking this as an opportunity to throw some more bile his way.

Some of the stuff I've read on twitter is truly saddening. What drives these people I'll never know.

Deserves to be treated with respect. It wasn't his fault he was handed that last contract, which was ridiculous, and before that he'd been pretty much a regular on and off since SAF.

I also think people dont realise how incredibly hard it is to suffer recurring injuries. Unless its happened to you, and you've spent months in the gym rehibilitating, then have it happen again, and again...its crushing. Doesnt matter how much money Phil Jones has, its must have been so tough mentally.

Shame he hasnt accepted a testimonial. I think he'd have been within his rights to have a proper farewell

Has there been any word yet on what's kept him out the team for so many years?

Saw a reference from him that he had to work extremely hard to get back for the Wolves game, which suggests he's fighting something which is difficult to overcome?

Terry was lauded for this sort of stuff and he’s regarded as one of England’s best ever & I’m sure Jones would have been if he had stayed fit. Class defender and was United’s best player the last time he played for us.

Really wish the guy well. Not only did he have to battle constant injuries he probably knew about the horrible abuse from keyboard warriors.
Hope he is happy in whatever he does next.

Good luck to him, shame how injuries ruined his career. He was such a good talent.

Hopefully he will recover and play few seasons.

Just a hunch that his body is no longer up to football and we will see him doing something else

Good Luck to him.

The idea he "doesn't want to play regularly" is pathetic to be honest. Go through the surgeries he has had. Play with no meniscus in your knee. Have bone crunching on bone, when you run and throw yourself into challenges like he did. Go to the lengths of surgery to drill holes in the end of your bones to force the body to repair itself in the slim chance you can get back to play football.

Like anyone on this forum would say no to the offer of a new deal when it came.

Good Luck to Phil, great to see him looking healthier than at the League Cup final.
