Optimism for 25/26 season

One game a week, can be no excuses in terms of fitness and performance levels.

With a decent fransfer window. Utd can definitely take advantage of the extra European places, with up to 9 or 10 teams in Europe, there'll be loads of Sunday games and rotation plenty of rotation for all those teams.

Focus on getting finishing as high up the league as possible and aim to win the two domestic cups.
The excuse will be ‘it’s hard to maintain match rhythm when you have full 7 day intervals between matches, teams nowadays are conditioned to play twice a week and this throws them off’. Wait a few weeks before it starts.

I'm incredibly optimistic for next season. Top 4 finish. With Rubin in charge.

You'll do better than Palace and Forest I'm sure as for sides not used to Europe at all constant Thurs-Sundays take their toll as the season goes on. Spurs keep Ange and they'll be dead by December playing CL and prem.

Recent example would be Brighton going from 6th to 11th by playing up to Europa league last 16. Girona in La Liga massively struggled with all the extra games and weren't far off being relegated.

Trouble is Man. United just getting up to the giddy heights of 8th-9th won't satisfy the big hitting old players in the media so that will continue creating external pressure. If you're in top 7 most of the season that will be different.

I'm convinced this is a massive issue. Would almost be it's own source of optimism if Neville, Keane & Scholes decided to retire from punditry this summer. I even think this affected Liverpool to some degree in the past before Hansen, Lawrenson & co all decided they were too old for it.

I just want to see the performances improve. The effort our team has been putting in once we knew it was Europa or bust has been pathetic. We did had a period where I thought we controlled games and just missed out on results due to a bad ref, bad luck, a howler in goal, or missed open net. Correct all that and we should dramatically move up the table. Fingers crossed.

The only bit of optimism for me comes from watching a new set of players next season. We are going to see the biggest clearout we’ve seen at the club this summer.

Watching a new foundation being laid and new leaders step up is pretty exciting.

In terms of next season I still have no expectations for any European place above a conference league spot. None of the top 6 sides struggled in juggling the PL and European commitments because they have solid squads which they’ll probably add to even more this summer.

I just hope we look like an actual team this coming season. With all the time for training there’s no reason why we shouldn’t rather than the disjointed mess we’ve had the past two years.

Every time I start to feel optimistic they let me down.

With that said, I’m optimistic we won’t get relegated.

Talk of a top 4 finish seems delusional.

Less of this crap can only be a good thing in my opinion. Only one mind numbing performance per week to look forward to rather than two

It’s fair to say that Liverpool, City and Arsenal will maintain a good standard.

Who knows which Chelsea will turn up

But other teams throughout the league I’d expect to drop off.

Can Newcastle compete on multiple fronts. They struggled hugely last time around they were in champs league. Likewise Palace and Forest in Europe

Teams also look set to be losing big players. Cunha at Wolves. Hujsen and Kerkez strongly linked away from Bournemouth. Eze, Mateta, Mbuemo, Wissa all key players heavily linked to transfers.

With no European football for us, I’d expect a marked league improvement. We’ve seen Newcastle, Forrest and others have strong domestic campaigns not having to deal with juggling European competition

Hand in hand (weaker opposition, stretched with European campaigns and us concentrating solely on the league), it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if with more goals in the squad we quickly get from 17th back up to challenging for European places again

No chance, I think the points you raised are valid but there's no introspection to how United actually improve aside scoring goals, it's an oversimplification when the biggest weakness this season has been the defence despite playing 5 across the backline in a multitude of fixtures.

Next season you can put the house on the opposition having joy down the regions just outside the wider central defender inside the wingback. Every United game I watch I see this being exposed time and time and time again. Seeing that United won't revamp that area of the field (as it's stacked for decent quality) this team will still suffer the same defensive frailties next season.

Additionally, how do United effectively get possession in the right areas to create distinctive chances? There's a stat out there that shows the level of clear cut chances United create being abysmal one of the lowest in the league. I'm not talking about someone like Amad beating his man to fire off a shot and stat pad, but a cohesive team orientated goal. That will be another issue next season because if you watched Sporting it is more of the same sentiment where the onus is on individual players progressing the ball to score goals.

If you watch this performance you'll see it in full swing, just highlight the average attacking position where Sporting score aside the penalties. You cannot build consistent momentum in the attack if this approach is the only facet of the managers philosophy:

I don't think there's anything wrong with this approach but the team has to have a stronger foothold in the game throughout the build up to then have the cherry on top which is a wider 10 or the striker break through to provide a chance. To further exaggerate the issue how many times have United played a pass that breaks the line of the opposition to create an opportunity? How many times have the wider players been the last man off the opposition defender? It's all too convenient to say we don't have the players because there are players in the squad capable of doing these very scenarios.

The biggest improvement next season needs to come from the coach before the players next season. Until I see Amorim resemble decent managerial capability I don't see United finishing beyond the 12th position.

I always get exited for a new season once new signing start coming in, but not for this one. This previous season left me so depressed to not care for the next one

After 3 days of doom and gloom i am feeling better about next season. One game per week, pre-season to make things right, new striker, Cunha and couple of fresh names.

Maybe next season will be good.

No choice but to hope for the best. Something I want to see improve is the depth of recruitment and transfers out. You could argue that would do more benefit than a new manager. It's clear we've got a mentality problem in the dressing room.

I enjoy the optimism that comes with a clean slate at the start of every season, but we also have to be realistic.

With Amorim still in charge and probably only 2 or 3 players coming in, we'll struggle to finish in the top half.

It would take an absolute miracle for us to actually compete for a CL spot; far more money than anticipated for the window, several big signings, a 100% hit rate on those new players meeting or exceeding expectations, and avoiding the perennial injury crisis.

I think we're a mid-table club for the foreseeable future.

Amorim cleaned house at Sporting in his first summer window, brought in a ton of new players and went on to win the league the next year. That's obviously not going to happen here next year, but I do expect us to be in the top 4 mix if we buy Cunha plus a quality striker. As we're seeing so far against Villa today, this group of players is capable of performing well against top four calibre opposition if we play on the front foot, which will only be helped by the addition of proven goal scorers.

My feelings exactly, I couldn't agree more. The best we can hope for next season is going far in either of the two domestic cup competitions (we might even go all the way one if luck permits) and a top-half finish.

We should be optimistic. Changes have happened upstairs and we will buy a lot better this Summer. We’re on our way back.

I am excited to watch the pre season games, and see the new signings on the pitch for the first time. I really think Amorim having a full pre season to get the players more used to the formation in a more relaxing environment will be huge for next season.

Just ger rid of the egos and build a proper team and things will look much better. I have full faith that Amorim can turn this club on the right path.

It's all on the transfers at this stage. We need a rebuild, I expect a lot of departures as we don't have Europe and we can reduce the wage bill and refine the squad. It's the factory reset we've needed for years in honesty.

I'm a little more confident with INEOS at the helm, Yoro is a fantastic signing so hopefully more of these will appear in the Summer. I'm confident we'll be significantly better.

I have to say his speech made me a bit more optimistic..

So happy the season is over, and now there is actually only hope left that next year will be better.. I don't really know what we can expect in terms of league position, but I just hope we will see positive development in playing style, attractiveness, player development, energy..

Actually can't wait for the new season to start already and very curious what the coming months will bring in transfer-wise!

Wish I could start right now at this point in time with a United FM game :D

If we sign well, im optimistic. Need a top striker, ten and GK. Then a MF or two.

It's going to be a shed load more than that. We have a load of people at ends of contracts, but I wouldn't be surprised if we finally have a dozen guys leaving (including Rashford and Sancho). However, this time we will need to replace guys who leave!!!

Good signs already with Shaw, Lindelof and especially Onana leaving.

I reckon we could have a good cup run and finish top 6 with the correct signings. A new goalkeeper and goalscorer is essential.

I'm going to wait to see who comes and who goes before I become optimistic about next season. Massively concerned about who is coming and how much will actually change.

The only optimistic spin you could put on it would be if we had Cunha, a premier league level striker, and a premier league level goalkeeper, we might have been top half of the table.

Let's hope for once this summer we actually sign some players who belong at this level.

If the squad rebuild is as rumoured ie a full rebuild with only 2-4 current members surviving in the first 11, then with the right transfers I can even see a title challenge with only one game per week.

On what basis? Putting together a brand new 11 effectively, and expecting them to be better than Pool, City and Arsenal? Why would this happen?

Its a good point you make and I think you are bang on the money where Palace and Forest are concerned.

It's no coincidence that both Forest and Newcastle can run teams into the ground given its one game per week, recovery day, day off, then work on the small 1% here and there in a game that turns a set piece or a set play into a victory. Not only are their players physically fresh, they are mentally fresh going into games.

Top 6, even with only Cuhna (potentially) and a new CF HAS to be the minimum goal for us next season.

  • We have some talented young players.
  • We are clearly prioritising forwards which should be an instant improvement and also the most exciting area of your team to be improving.
  • It seems Amorim understands our issues quite clearly which is a good start.
  • A number of players who shouldn't have been here are leaving.
Essentially having poor players in such key positions (In goal and up front) makes it so that even reasonable signings there will see a disproportionate improvement in us overall as a team and we have truly bottomed out now to the point that everyone realises that there are no more plasters to be stuck on the wounds.

We have a young and talented squad, a lot of them are steadily learning and growing.
With some luck here in the transfer window we can add a couple of much needed pieces as well.

As said a lot of question marks around a lot of teams above us this season.
We have played well a lot of games this season. Close games against Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Forest, Villa.
Very few if any of the royal clusterfecks we had under Erik.
