Our net spend. Can we end up like Barca?

There's circa 119m class B shares. And around 40m class A shares.

When the glazers want to sell more of their ownership, they can convert the Class B shares to Class A shares and sell on the market. Once they've been converted from Class B to Class A, they cant be converted back. Class A shares can't be converted to Class A shares.
Understood - so ~ 160-165mm shares outstanding (assuming that includes conversion of all convertible debt, securities, warrants and options)

Therefore owning 1.25% of Class A shares equates to 0.3125% ownership of United.

It has nothing to do with Barcelona. Top clubs sign expensive players. Real Madrid payed a fortune for Tchouameni. Are Madrid the next Barca? We are not doing obscure and strange deals, signing players that aren't asked by the coach, for some unknown reason like Barcelona did. We signed a top manager and are buying his players to develop his style. He wants those players. We are not just throwing money at random names as some apparently believe be the case.
They also got a fortune for Casemiro. In their shoes, it's a great trade.

Voted the best city in the world
Our wages are very high as well.

Ronaldo, De Gea, Maguire, Rashford, Martial, Varane, Casemiro, Bruno, Sancho are all on very high wager.
Yeah but just from what i recall (and i could be wrong), Barca were paying Messi over a million a week and someone like Griezmann was earning like 880k pw. Ours is high, but in line with other "top clubs". Barca were just next level ridiculous.

Real Madrid isn't comparable though, they generated a ton of revenues thanks to their CL wins and their net spend was around 900M below United's over the last decade.

 This fanbase. Don't spend on players. It sucks. Spend on players. It sucks.

RM is the best run club even compared to BM. The success they had for the last decade and spending 900M less than us is unbelievable. They have learnt their lesson on galaticos era.

This seasons spent was always required after the way we ended last season and after the exodus of players on a free. If ronaldo leaves, it further reduces our wage bill by a lot.

However , yes, this is unsustainable . We desperately need a good footballing structure which will allow us to pick players on the cheap or approach players / clubs / agents well in advance so that we can strike a deal at reasonable terms and not panic into spending over the odds on deadline day

The debt was at nearly £600m last I heard, and has cost us a fortune over the years. It should be going down, not up.

If we were debt free and doing well, we'd be able to afford even more spending.

Even more than transfer fee, we have to become better with wages. Wage structure not only affects the annual bottom line but also significantly determines the future resale value of these players. Buying a player for 100m is not a problem if he can be sold in future for 120m. But it is a problem to buy a player for 30m and have to let him leave for 6m.

The way player purchases are accounted for through amortisation allows united to spend like this each summer..take antiny for example.. 100 million euros over 5 years. Basics of it means we account for 20 million of his fee for each year if his contract. Its an odd facet of football clubs but that's how it's done..

United are not under any financial constraints..tbh Barcelona aint either just the league rules have them under pressure

It's unsustainable for us to spend like we have this summer. It seems that we have gambled for CL football next season and that there will be a catch that we don't know about yet with how it has been funded.

Yeah I have seen a few people say similar and it's all well and good and you're correct this is how the fees are accounted for in the books but it doesn't change the fact that if more is going out than is coming in over a long enough period then that will present a problem eventually.

Don't forget, we've been spending heavily for a decade...how many players are we still "depreciating' that we actually signed two, three, four seasons ago?

That is just accounting. The actual payment structure can be anything. We might only take 20m of Antony this year but that means we are paying 20m for varane Sancho and donny
