I just think that when a child is imminent in a man's life, he is vulnerable.
I'm not excusing it, I'm just saying it's a factor.
When a child is born, it's like "that's it - I'm a dad now, I truly am committed to this family".
While the child isn't born, it doesn't feel the same. It may still feel, to some men, that there's still a slither of opportunity open to them to have one last fling before the true responsibility begins.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that, having become a father, and if this story is true then Rooney will be absolutely beside himself with guilt right now.
It is very difficult to convey to someone who has never had a child just how many changes occur in your life on every level when you DO have a child - physically, psychologically, philosophically, sociologically, economically etc etc - you name it, it changes.
Rooney clearly didn't appreciate this at the time but I reckon he does now and that is why I say that he and Colleen can get through this.
There's a kid involved, there's a family involved. We're not talking about some bird you met when you were 16 and she had a sneaky snog with another lad in the back row of the cinema and you could "never forgive her for that".
