I was wondering when our postponed matches against Crystal Palace and Leeds would get played. Now it seems the FA have scheduled the Palace match right between our City & Arsenal fixtures giving just 10 days notice. Hope ETH uses this affront in the same way that SAF would have to create the siege mentality of “everyone is against us”

Would it not be the Premier League and not the FA who we direct our anger at?

Isn’t the Arsenal match likely to get rescheduled if we beat Charlton?

It sucks, but not sure why we would be angry. We have to play those postponed games at some point. If we keep on winning, a game vs Palace before Arsenal would be good to maintain momentum.

Don't know whether they had any other feasible options for rescheduling that would have been ok for both clubs,
but still, feck them for this one. cnuts.

Hating on someone/something and only then thinking about stuff seems rather fun.

Obviously we have to roll with the punches but there’s no way in God’s green earth that a midweek league match between those two fixtures is better than no midweek match. Especially when Arsenal won’t have a game (I think?)

Nope. The first semi final is the midweek after the Arsenal game. We're likely to play 8 games this month. Mental.

That's the worst part. They don't have a midweek game that week. A full week between playing Spurs and us.

Yeah, this is going to be pretty hardcore. City on the 14th, Palace on the 18th, Arsenal on the 22nd.

We could do with wrapping up that Weghorst signing asap and...maybe another one.

If Arsenal win their cup game, you'd think they'll reschedule their game against Everton that midweek as well

Awful scheduling. Why not give Palace and us a bit of autonomy on when to fit it in? If we don’t get past Barca there’ll be loads of midweeks free from now till the end of the season.

Are tickets for the original game redeemable for this game? Or will there be another ballot?

And if we don't there might not be enough.

I see us losing to City, tying Palace and winning at Arsenal.

At RB in particular, it may help in that I would start Wan Bissaka at Palace specifically to go against Zaha, while using Dalot against City and Arsenal. Think McFred is going to have to make an appearance at some point during this stretch....

They definitely would have. It was dependent us and Palace or Leeds not having a replay.

One positive is we are bang in form at the minute. Another chance to get a game done and another 3 points.

7 points from the 3 games is happening.

9 points. Easy. Could go within at least 3 of Arsenal with three wins now

It’s a crazy busy schedule…so expect some lethargic performances and few dropped points.

No doubt people will still be moaning endlessly.

Is this really a problem? We have 3 full days of rest both before and after this game, and it's at home (and so is the game against City). We should be fine.

Well yeah, it’s a problem. We have 3 days rest, Arsenal have 7. That will make a difference. The players aren’t machines. There’s a reason that top teams have always been much more likely to drop points after playing a midweek CL fixture.

Not sure how much (if any) of a difference it will make. At some point there are diminishing returns to how many days of rest you have. If we were playing Arsenal on Saturday, then sure, it might've been a problem - especially if we had travelled. But 3 full days of rest after playing at home should be enough, easily.

That’s always been the way with CL games though. If you play on Wednesday your league game is on a Sunday. And you still see countless examples of CL teams dropping points in winnable matches against weaker teams who’ve had a bit more rest. And this time we’re up against the league leaders. It’s definitely made life harder for us. Not as though we have huge squad depth either. Players like Bruno and Casemiro basically needs to start and finish every game or our level drops significantly.

The Palace game isn’t at home.

It’s city at home followed by Palace and Arsenal away.

A kick in the dick for the travelling contingent

What? That has not always been the case. Several managers have complained about having the early Saturday kick-off after playing on Wednesday, and that's understandable.

I'm not saying this is ideal, especially at such short notice, but it could've been a lot worse, and we should be fine.

ETH on Martial:

Erik ten Hag noted that “there is a reason” Anthony Martial has been substituted so often recently, adding that: “It is because he cannot manage the load. This is why we are looking for another striker. “It is not about us not relying on him. His physical load is not, at this moment, so high that he can play every third day a game of 90 minutes. So I have to manage that together with him.
“We are on a thin line at the moment because the qualities of Anthony Martial are so important right now to our game. His movements, his ball security, the pressing, let’s not forget that. We need that profile to be a threat.”

Week has been saved for FA cup 3rd round replays being as though neither us or Palace are involved in replay but Leeds are it is not a great surprise that this game has been moved here in such a hectic schedule.

Makes perfect sense in fairness. If neither Us or Leeds require 4th round replays fully expect that game to get re-scheduled for whenever 4th round replays are scheduled to be played.

Palace is really bad at the moment, so the timing might not be so bad.
You could have said that about Wolves and Everton and yet both matches were very tight affairs. Palace away is always difficult for us and sandwiched in between those two major matches it is asking a lot. If it were a cup game between the City and the Arsenal match I'd be tempted to rest all the regular starters.
