Decided this is what I wanna see tomorrow.

    Romero

    Tuanzabe Maguire Rojo

    Dalot Fred Garner Williams

    Gomez

    Greenwood Martial

I think we're going to go rather strong assuming Tuanzebe, Dalot, Shaw, Matic, and Pogba miss out. The 'concessions' I can see being made are Rashford and James sitting it out in favour of Greenwood and Martial up top, and maybe Williams at Left Back over Young. Probably Romero over De Gea too. I'd expect the rest to be similar to the line-up that faced Liverpool (I suppose we could see Jones start too). Mata or Andreas is another decision as well actually... So, could be as many as 5-6 changes. I expect to see Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Rojo, McTominay and Fred retain places though due to limited numbers.

I think winning this tournament is a huge long shot. I'd rather pour all our resources into where we will finish in the league (which admittedly looks bleak right now). I'd play youth/fringe players whenever possible, which is tough with all the injuries, obviously.

    Romero
    Young Maguire Rojo Williams
    Fred Garner
    Pereira Mata Chong
    Greenwood

    (Tuanzabe for Rojo if healthy)

My mate and I were backpacking eastern Europe once and got on the wrong train into Belgrade.....it was full of Partizan firm members en route to play Red Star. Most uncomfortable 2hrs of my life. If there was no police presence on the train I fear we'd have been in serious trouble. There were some satanic eyes staring us down the entire journey. Any fans going to the Game being fecking careful!

That sounds horrible. What was the police presence like?

    TRAVELLING SQUAD

Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.

Why Lingard and Mata but no Gomes and Chong? I mean what is the point of the first 2?

That sounds horrible. What was the police presence like?

As a former police officer in Serbia I can tell you there will be a significant presence but... If it escelates beyond a few smaller skirmishes among fans there isn't much they can do beside use excessive force indiscriminately. So fans coming over here, don't aggrivate the police, chance is you'll get a beating. Otherwise enjoy Belgrade, it isn't as bad as some make it out to be as long as you have fun respectfully.

    AWB Fred Garner Williams

Amended after seeing the travelling squad.

Totally crazy, stupid, out-there lineup... of healthy bodies, which are few and far between:

    Romero
    Rojo - Maguire - Jones - Williams
    Garner - Mata - Fred
    Lingard - Martial - Greenwood

Subs: Pereira for Mata 60', James for Lingard 75', Lindelof for Jones whenever injury occurs

I can't make anything work, really. We are so thin, without putting the U23 team on the pitch, too many are playing three games in too few days.

They should go all-out on the attack and try to score two or three, then pull back to a 6-4-0 and hang on.

Nope just not taken. Probably will be playing the next u23 game.

There is an EFL Trophy game on Tuesday - still would have expected them to be in the squad though, suppose its pointless to make them travel all that way if not even making the bench

Pretty much. I think a full game against EFL opponents will do them good anyway, they've hardly played any minutes in the last month.

Great to see Lingard back, you can sense the mood of the Cafe lifting instantly.

    • I was half-asleep, heard this thunderous smashing/banging noise - my mate looks out the window and goes "oh feck, it's a firm...…"
    • There's dozens of them smashing beer bottles into the side of the train as their boarding, screaming, etc.
    • They entered one end of our carriage, cops entered the other end, we were stuck in the middle sitting down.
    • One cop just plainly said "English? Today is a big derby, you need to leave this carriage right now please"
    • Said cop then escorted us into the next one, having to barge through the Partizan firm with backpacks (most of them rubbing our hair/heads in a pisstake way going "ohhhh, English!!" and similar).
    • We then got sat in the next carriage with two armed 'guards' while being stared at/stared down through the glass by the psychos.
Once we got off, to be fair, nobody did a thing to us or even said anything, just let us go on our way.

Taking a crack at a decent starting XI from that squad

    Romero

    Wan Bissaka Maguire Rojo Williams

    McTominay Fred

    Greenwood Pereira James

    Martial
Would like to see Laird, Garner and Jesse in the 2nd half to give AWB, McSauce and James a rest if it is well in hand. No reason to use Rashford at all, let him rest and be fresh for Norwich.

Being a nosey git i'd have been too tempted to ask 'em what they had in their backpacks

Hahaha, no my backpack! Me and my mate were backpacking at the time of the incident! They weren't too happy about it smacking into them as I waded through the crowd, which is why I was fortunate the cops were there.

Thanks, so you probably weren't in actual danger but it was a nasty intimidating atmosphere. Who needs that, particularly in a foreign country?

Aye I wouldn't let it deter me from visiting but I'd be minding my p's and q's around the police for sure.

How about this? Fred loses possession a bit too much but he is a good passer and works hard. Could he play the Pereira role?

Possible, but with Andreas, Mata and Lingard in the side I would be shocked if one of them doesn't start as a no.10 tomorrow.

Wouldn't be surprised if Ole opted for three at the back again. It certainly went well on Sunday. Admitted that we are playing a team that are not at Liverpool's level, but the players actually looked comfortable in that formation. If that is the case then I wonder if Ole would risk Laird and Williams as wing backs. Both are very good going forward, but obviously need to work at their defensive duties. Although Ole would be very brave to try that, I think AWB will start at right back. Possibly Martial and Rashford up front, hope Pereira keeps his place, but worried that he may get pushed back to the right, with Mata or Lingard playing the 10 role. That would leave Fred and McTominay as the two midfielders. If we go with a flat back four, then I expect Jones to come in, and then a possible role for Garner in a midfield three. I assume that Gomes and Chong will get opportunities in the remaining Europa League matches, this one looking the most difficult for them.

When is the presser for this? Hoping for a bit of insight into the team/formation

A little annoyed Gomes hasn’t been included but it is what it is and can’t do anything about it. Based of that list of players that travelled, I would like to see the following:

    Romero

    Lindelof
    Jones
    Rojo

    Wan-Bissaka
    Garner
    Fred
    Williams

    Pereira

    Greenwood
    Martial

    subs:
    Grant
    Laird
    Maguire
    McTominay
    Mata
    James
    Rashford

Good news no Young in the squad
Bad news no Young in the squad means he'll start v Norwich
Who would you rather start at LB? Rojo? Williams? In a premier league game.. Unless Shaw is back, Young is our best option

UNITED TEAM NEWS FOR BELGRADE TEST
    Jesse Lingard
's availability has boosted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's options as Manchester United prepare to face Partizan Belgrade on Matchday Three in the Europa League.

The winger has missed the Reds' last two games - away to Newcastle United and at home to Liverpool - but did feature as a substitute in the preceding European game against AZ Alkmaar.

Speaking exclusively to MUTV before his pre-match press conference at Partizan Stadium, Solskjaer enthused: “It's fantastic to have him back fit. He's been so lively and bubbly in training.

”I don't know how much game time we'll give him but he looks like he needs to catch up on lost time.

“It's been fantastic to see him with a big smile. I know Jesse from before. Of course now we expect him - and I think he expects - to kick on.
One of the notable absentees from Ole's 20-man squad is David De Gea, who did play in the Liverpool game of course, despite suffering a thigh injury a few days earlier while on duty for Spain.

“David will be ready for Sunday [away to Norwich City] but we didn’t take the risk of travelling with him, no,” said Solskjaer, when asked about his no.1 at the start of the press conference.

The three United goalkeepers in Belgrade are Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Academy youngster Matej Kovar, who played for the Under-23s in Monday night's 4-1 win at Swansea City.

Meanwhile, Ole acknowledged that two players - Luke Shaw and Nemanja Matic - are currently working on their fitness in Dubai, accompanied by members of United's backroom team.

“They have taken staff to go really hard on them,” revealed the boss, “so I expect them back in Manchester by the weekend and we will see when they are available.”

When asked if another trip absentee, Paul Pogba, could be fit for the Norwich game and whether there is any news on a return date, Ole replied ”no“ to both questions.
