It'll be interesting to see if he actually has a performance that can be discussed.

Another one missing the tour. Apparently remaining at the club to follow a specific training routine.

Hopefully getting ready to move him on

Thought he might have played today given Maguire has a knock but wasn't aware he didn't travel. Pretty clear we're bringing in a defender and moving him on.

On the one hand, it's not unusual for a player returning from injury to have their own unique training schedule.

But on the other, he was fit and playing well at the end of last season. Surely the tour would be perfect for him to get some game time.

I don't know if this means he's leaving. I hope not, he's unironically better than Maguire.

This might be a controversial opinion, but phil has to be on of the players not stinking it up thus far, will that earn him a start vs Liverpool?

If he is fit then he should start a game tbh. He was decent in his couple of outings late last season....... Maybe even the CDM role?

Not playing is a good way to not stink it up tbf

Phil has the heart of a lion and confidence on Don Juan. I mean he would leave his all on the pitch and would do no worse than Maguire whos confidence is completely shattered.

I´d rather have Jones over the other lazy bums strolling around aimlessly.

Phil put in more effort in one rehab session that most of our starters do in full season on the pitch.

This is his 12th season here. Let that sink in.

Wazza wanted him at dc but apparently he turned it down because he wanted to stay at the highest level

Without any doubt he'll stay here for the last year of his deal.
He'd be daft not to really.

If we renew him again....well, it doesn't bear thinking about.

Agreed, we can't even speak of a dodgy knee, there's no fecking meniscus left. He's fecked in top level football. We should let his contract run out, which we should be doing with a lot more players that are impossible to shift (De Gea for one).

Does he not fancy playing football anywhere? What the hell is wrong with him?

He literally can’t play anymore.. seems to be pretty obvious which is why he won’t take up a contract elsewhere. We’ve got our own Micah Richards. Atleast Richards had some favours in football.. I’m sure Blackburn could over him a deal.

He has been out for so long, I believe he has lost his desire to play.
A shame really.
It must be so psychologically, draining to always be injured.

Yeah, when he rejected the loan to Bordeaux in January for 6 months whilst being our 5th or 6th choice, it really made me realise that he doesn't have the fight anymore sadly. Prior to that I thought it was all a physical issue.
