Uh... there was a huge campaign in the UK in favour of Brexit and lots of people supported it, on all levels of society. By the time of the election, it was clear that it would be close. And a large part of the GOP side of the US supported Trump, again on all levels of society. I don't think you could get your take from just reading the NYT and the Guardian...?People didn't come out in favour of Brexit. No was a foregone conclusion back then.
People didn't come out in favour of Trump in 2016. A Hilary Clinton presidency was a foregone conclusion back then.
Yet.
In any case, players or coaches could express cautious support (like: 'it sounds interesting, I'd need to know more though, maybe would need some tweaks') without having to fear to be lynched online; but the most I've seen so far is Zidane not really commenting at all.
