The shot was pretty much at the keeper wasn’t it? I remember Bruno’s volley against rangers. Maybe the angle was different so it was easier to place it in the corner.
If you see the angle from behind Maz, there wasn’t a lot of room to the far left, where he directed it. So Raya saved it.

The inside post was more open.

Anyone else weirdly think that McT is on hand to stab the rebound from the Bruno shot/Raya save home if he's on the pitch?

We need that kind of player who sniffs out rebounds.
He might have, but then he would have also likely been nowhere to be seen for the rest of the 90 minutes, leaving us to play effectively with 10 men.

If i’m not mistaken, Raya slightly bent his knees to save Maz’ shot. I thought that was a great Gk instinct. And yes, it’s also a fortunate save in a way, as his body was already going the other way, covering the near post area.

It’s still a great shot by a wingback, that any of our strikers aren’t capable of

Sorry i won’t reply to every posts, commenting my post about Rice. I think he’s so well rounded defensive CM. Southgate limited him to a mere DM, when he has more to offer.

I can’t change your mind about him, as yours won’t change mine either. Not until i watch and see his level drop.

Clutching at straws with Hojlund there! Not quick enough to finish and allowed time for the defender to get back. He needs selling ASAP, allowing funds for another striker.

Rooney defended him and he would know better. He probably should have hit it first time but it seemed like he would have enough time for a touch and shot. It's not the worst mistake is the point and I'm glad he got two chances this game rather than none at all. Baby steps.

I wish I shared your and other people's optimism about Hojlund becoming a decent striker for us. Granted this formation does hinder him a little and there is a lack of service but he still looks way off the mark for a 22 year old. The three or four touches it takes for him to get the ball under control, his awareness, lack of ability to shield the ball and bring others in is horrendous even for a 22 year old.

I agree Rice is a 'Bryan Robson' re-visited character, eats up the pitch, must have the power source of the 'duracell bunny'. He sees things early, is past master at arriving late in the box, etc.
Would take him at OT in a heart beat.

Southgate has an antiquated football brain in mine and I can only assume many others opinion. Arteta recognized he's not a deeper playmaker in a progressive system and uses him in a way that's turned him into one of the best midfielders in the world IMO.

Baleba, either of the Neves' (not sure who Nevez is) and now a days Kimmich. Also the 12th best midfielder in the world would still be one of the best midfielders in the world so I'm not sure how that list is even relevant to my point.

Sure - if by best, you meant, one of the top 20 or top 30, I agree that Rice will feature.

I don’t think he is in top 10.
