On the contrary, i believe xG described the game rather well. I thought we were very poor, sloppy and lethargic, and with the lines wide apart against a side that has already thrown the towel in (you could see it in Ruud's frustration throughout the game). Still, the difference between the two sides was two words... Bruno Fernandes. Not United actually playing well. Anyway, it's good to get the points in the bag, since there were games we deserved more than the defeats we got.

I would have Ugarte instead of Hojlund and definitely Erikson instead of Maz. I think Collyer was uncomfortable when playing in defence, but improved when switching back to his midfield role.

I like the idea of xG, but it rarely seems accurate. I understand that Hojlund's goal was a decent finish you wouldn't always expect to go in, so it probably doesn't contribute much.

xG is totally accurate. But it's accurate for what it is, which is a measure of the average quality of the positions shots are taken from. Like any statistic, it is what it is. It's no good wanting it to be something other than what it is, and if it isn't, that's a shortcoming of expectations, not of the statistic.

It is not, and cannot be, a valid general measure of attacking threat or attacking performance. But it tells you something better and more useful than the raw shot count.

For instance it tells you that we are doing way too much long-distance shooting.

The one criticism I do have with Amirom is that every time we play in our defensive half, you see a backline with SIX straight across. And then he comes out and says we need to score more goals. Never seen a backline of 6, maybe a 5 which is not a problem. All big teams sometimes defend even with 10 players.
Issue is our transition in attack, when we have the ball we barely have any bodies upfront, it takes ages for them to position themselves in dangerous areas and Hojlund is always with his back at goal and 2 defenders around him.

We are 5 4 or 6 4 in defense, I‘ve seen that. We defend and attack in numbers. Not a problem, it gives us more space up front to run into.

And all this just because he had a 21 game scoring drought and couldn't execute a hold-up to save his life. People will start complaining about being 13th next, it beggars belief.

Of course people complained about Højlund, how could they not? He played really, really badly for a very long time. Once he doesn't, they'll stop. Hopefully Leicester was the start of that.

Yeah well, that's a bit too easy an excuse for what we've been seeing. I didn't see him get into a lot of good positions, and he generally lost the ball whenever he got it. Hopefully it's a confidence issue and he can turn it around, but there's no way you can call his performances the last few months anything other than weak.

If you watch him live, you’d see the good runs he makes and others aren’t good enough to find him but yes he is short of confidence
