Wow if we needed any reminder as to why we need keep our 1st 11 fit this was it, clearly a bad decision but cannot complain losing 1-0 to a bad decision when you do not bother trying to win the game, very poor

One can see now why he wanted Je Jong so badly. Without Ericksen in the middle we are missing something.

The two starting CBs tonight were poor in comparison to Varane and Martinez.

Dalot wasnt trying at all either.

You will see for the premier league the team against arsenal starting mostly. Maybe martial back up front. And cassimiro starting as well.

Not that he was really at fault today, but I find it somewhat hilarious that we have lost all three games Maguire has started, and won all the ones he hasn't started.
He cannot build from the back like Martinez does. As soon as he sees an opposition player coming towards him he shits his pants.

AWFUL penalty decision. Ref was a twat. Beyond that some of our squad players aren’t great and our manager is still finding his feet. Glad Casemiro and squad players and youngsters got minutes. Can’t get overly up nor down about Europa league results tbh.

We didn't field our strongest 11 obviously, so that should be taken into consideration. And the penalty call was a joke.

It pains me to say it but Ronaldo is cooked.

Frustrating result with most of the reserves off the pace and looking rusty. Penalty, needless to day, shouldn't have stood in a million years.

Still, not worried at all. Progress is not a straight line and I'm sure we'll still win the group.

Lindelof even more so. It's pathetic to witness and they're both so far from being suited to the style of play we want to establish it's ridiculous.

EtH experimenting. I knew not to take the game seriously once Lindelof was pegged into right-back.

That being said, we urgently need a new striker.

Bad result no two ways about it. Think we were also very unlucky with the pen , 9 times out of 10 that would not be given .
Some obs, Ronaldo off his game or in serious decline? Casemiro isn’t fully fit.Antony needs time. Garnacho looked like he should get more game time.
Martinez is a gem.

A reality check for everyone. Our first 11 has improved from last season but we’ve a long way to go. We can’t afford to squander chances, as it only takes one poor decision to make it a bad result.

They're so scared, weak and lack the balance to build our play. They're way taller than Martinez and yet fail to win a header. Just such pathetic defenders.

Watching Ronaldo is pretty shocking these days. His legs haven't just gone, they're six feet under, and he contributes nothing if he's not scoring. Van Nistelrooy was a dynamic all-round player by comparison. It's really no wonder there was so little interest in him during the summer.

Poor display , and confirmatory of something we knew anyway in that outside of the first 11 or even 9/10 player we do not have quality in depth. We are a few injuries away from another very average season.

Yea if ericksen gets injured we are screwed.

You can see why he wanted De Jong.

The lack of true goalscorers in this squad is really worrying.

If the players can show that one setback no longer equates to weeks/months of shite, it will be worth it.
Exactly this doesnt have to be really negative. We needed to know that we need to fight every game and most of all we need our best players because 2nd choice is crap

Shit performance but it wasn't a very important game tbf.

Ronaldo again looking like he needs to retire. Maguire didn't really do anything wrong but the difference in passing quality between him and Martinez is night and day. Lindelof/Dalot/malacia were pretty good, can't be blamed. Eriksen did well in the first half. Casemiro was pretty meh, expect him to improve massively of course. Things didn't come off for Antony but I like his work rate. Elenga is pretty shit. Fred was shit.

All in all, wasn't really an important game and the players played as if it wasn't an important game. Still, if we had a better striker who could at least run or control a ball then we would have won without too many issues. Ronaldo killed pretty much every action as he tends to these days.

Maguire, Lindelof, Fred and Ronaldo are no longer first choice players and should be used as squad players until we can offload them for better replacements.

Absolutely terrible decision by the ref and VAR! That said we were pretty poor and struggled to create many chances. Eriksen is class and him going off showed the difference he makes to our midfield with his quality of passing. Ronaldo is becoming a problem, we look a lot more fluid in attack when it’s Rashford or Martial leading the line.

The temptation to overreact to poor individual performances is understandable.

Ronaldo isn’t done quite yet. He actually put together a few decent efforts on goal, including a very nice headed goal that was rightly disallowed for offside. But no, he is not going to beat four defenders on the dribble ever again.

I’ll be on the lookout for an explanation for the horror penalty decision that decided the match. A draw would have been a just result, as RSO barely troubled us.

For that, we will have to beat Real Sociedad on their home turf.

The most disappointing part about today is that our second string players have not made a case to start more when it will matter more. Casemiro and Fred have been atrocious in midfield. Ronaldo... I don't even want to start talking about him.

Elanga was trying to create things, but the way he missed those 5-yard passes inside the box was criminal because those were 2 goals on a silver plate if his passes were any better.

As for the referee... He deserves the label of "The Worst Person in the Sports World" for the day (as Keith Olbermann used to call in his nightly show on ESPN). I don't think I have seen anything more moronic than that guy awarding a penalty when the ball obviously deflected off the thigh and then into the arm when the defender was not even trying to make himself bigger.

Cashemiro had a bit of a stinker... not really that surprising though. After all, he's only here for the fat pay check he gets out of it. Oh well, he's only here for another 4-5 years
And what are you here for? Stupid opinions and attention seeking? You’ve added nothing to the discussion with your ignorant, asinine, flippant post.

We lost control of the game when Erikson went off. It was almost instantaneous. Fred was just booting the ball anywhere, flying into tackles because he'd lost control. Casemiro looks old, slow and crap. Ronaldo looks old, slow and crap.

It cannot be underplayed how rubbish we are without Erikson linking up the midfield and playing in the forwards. The supply line died, even with Bruno on, that link up just wasn't there. Maguire didn't have a howler, but he dwells on the ball too long and just takes the easy passes. Martinez pings the ball into midfield, usually one touch. It catches the opposition out, and if the midfield can turn quickly and play it into a forward, you suddenly have a run on goal. Like Elanga was having in the first half.

Ten Hag needs to work on his plan B
Casemiro needs to get fit
Fred needs to play it simple
And we need to wrap Erikson up in cotton wool, because he is fundamental to our season.

Some strange calls by ETH
Fred as a 10 and not Eriksen
Taking off Dalot and putting Lindelof there instead of AWB
He clearly doesn't rate Fred deeper, while we are in possession, whereas he feels that we really need Eriksen's quality on the ball from that area there.

Probably similarly he really doesn't rate AWB, especially on the ball or as the inverted full-back.

Sociedad were poor in the first half and we didn't take advantage. Ronaldo was useless and Eriksen was excellent first half.

Never a penalty and should have finished 0-0. Onto the next one.

Because I am 100% sure they will not win it either way.
Maybe not the team as it is today but the team in Feb/Mar could well have taken strides forward. I’m sure we’ll get enough from games against Sheriff and Ominoia anyway but the season is long and we could have a trophy to play for towards the end of it. Not to mention it could help ETH get a first trophy in the bank to shut people up.

Same is true for Lindelof and Ronaldo, but the hive mind isn't fixated on them like it is Maguire.

Fred had one of the worst games he's ever had for us, which is impressive given what a disaster he was early on in his United career. Ronaldo offers very little as a striker, even the goals have dried up.

The match had 0-0 written all over it, and it was if you don't count tbf ludicrous penalty they were given.

Also, has Casemiro always been prone to really careless passing? He's given the ball away in really dangerous positions multiple times every match he's played for us so far.

Ridiculous penalty but it has to be said the team selection was poor. Too many changes this was the most important match to win in this group. A few changes is understandable but 6 was too many.
