Manchester United 4:1 Real Sociedad

Post-match discussion

First ten minutes horrendous, after that we woke up and put in a great performance.

Fantastic team performance.
Key points for me. 1) so many players played very well. 2) Zirkzee, hopefully people will start to see what what I’ve always saw in him. 3) Bruno, the goals were important of course. But today I really loved that he played like a proper number 10 especially with his little passes & through.

Zirkzee man....that was awesome.

Have to give Bruno, MoM of course. He has 3 lungs.

Hojlund was great, keep working, it'll come.

Dorgu also has 3 lungs too, played great.

So happy we have more to play for, it has been so bad, but I always look forward to watching a United match.

Lyon next. How good are Lyon? Do they still have Juninho taking free kicks and Benzema/Ben Arfa as promising breakout talents?

Very good game. Wonderful result

Loved Heaven, but pretty much everybody played very well

Man Utd 0:1 Real Sociedad -

Man Utd 1:1 Real Sociedad - Bruno (16' pen)

Man Utd 2:1 Real Sociedad - Bruno (50' pen)

Man Utd 3:1 Real Sociedad - Bruno (87')

Man Utd 4:1 Real Sociedad - Dalot (90' + 1)

Multiple replays of the lads taking the penalties but not the incidents that preceded them.

What the feck are they at?

Pleased and we did play very well. Dorgu makes a huge difference to the team that much is evident.
Absolutely not getting carried away or handing out individual praise (except Bruno who is back to his best)
Need to see this far more often. Might sound harsh but far too many false dawns over the season to be fist bumping or a fair few comments oh here I’ve seen coming with receipts. Settle down and Onto the next one…let’s see how we get on against Lyon too.

Oh and @bb8 are you happy now ? :p
I did tell ya. It is possible for PL players to play two games in a week without having strokes.
Of course I'm happy! We lost Yoro to injury in the previous game though (and who knows if some of our other players were worse in this one due to fatigue), so I think my point was well vindicated.

I still think we played too many of our best players vs Arsenal, and I've gladly have rested more of our players that match (and lost) for even a few percentage points improvement in our odds vs Sociedad. To me this game meant everything for our season, whereas Arsenal might as well have been an exhibition match for all it was worth.

Hojlund looked like a different player, was actually bullying the defenders. Maybe we should send all our duds to Spain on loan? Haha.

Tbh that was a much better outing by Hojlund and the rest of the team. Not a bad thing to say. Let's keep the momentum going lads.

Best performance this season and we actually used the benefits of this system for once. Which in turn created space for Garnacho, Rasmus and Zirkzee.

Not a single bad thing to say. Zirkzee keeps improving, Hojlund played very well, that 1 goal to finally settle the nerves will come. Dorgu excellent, Heaven is cold as ice.
Mazraoui Bruno excellent as always.
Casemiro played good balls over the top, its obvious he's slow in possession and is passing the ball at the earliest convenience to not get caught and cause a counter, good on him (or the management if they told him) to notice this and act on it.

Great match at last.
Zirkzee, Dorgu, Fernandez and Heaven all excellent.

Hojilund and Garnacho putting in the efforts. Apart from the pen a great defensive and offensive display. We just need to start converting more shots and we’ll get better results more often.

Bilbao are the team to beat but let’s see what we can do. Squad still feels incredibly thin but hopefully we get no more injuries and can limp on to the final.

Finally a solid game, we were good in attack and the involvement of the wingbacks, especially Dorgu was essential. Love to see us creating 7-8 clear chances in one game, almost forgot how it is.
Also the movement of the ball was good, nice passes to bypass the opposition and no more sideway passing between the defenders. Really hope that something is starting to happen here.

Obviously the result helped but I really really enjoyed watching us. Not that everything was perfect but the urge to give it all and play good football was tangible last night.

Dorgu and Bruno my mainest men.

Hopefully we can follow up by beating Leicester so the team and fans can feel happy. Frankly I don't enjoy watching our games. There is always some screw-up somewhere by someone like the penalty in the leg or players unable to put the ball in the net against Arsenal.

Very encouraging performance but I still worry about our attack. Would we have scored 4 if they didn’t have a man sent off?
I do not know about 4 but we were well in control, and they had to push forward so 3 was definitely likely, the 4th seemed to come when everything had gone out of them

Caf thought Dorgu was cack … Wes and Danny Webber thought he provided Uniteds missing threat

Be good to see him back after the ban

The pressing was very good.

I think their first goal came from Garnacho missing the press in the far corner that let them out to build the attack. After that the changes to the press pretty much nullified their build up.

It's noticeable how much difference having two left footers on the left side makes. Dorgu was full of running and made great space by hugging the line on that side.

Overall, a brilliant performance all round, players looked well up for it from the off. Need to carry that momentum now towards the end of the season.

First time I've seen Ruben look genuinely happy during the game since his first game for United away to Ipswich.

Those penalties - as well as a lot of others in recent times - were interesting decisions. I think in another life (a generation or so back) none of those are given and none are appealed for. There’s almost a feeling that if you scrutinise every challenge to death you will eventually see a foul.

Some of the yellows too were incredibly harsh, as was the red. Technically they are often ultimately arriving at the correct decision but it’s often taking two, three minutes to see the foul via a screen. The cream will always have risen to the top but the course of lots of individual football matches would have unquestionably changed had we had video technology and a referee as picky as the one last night.

That's more like it! Best and most enjoyable performance of the season. No poor game from anyone. Just need to follow it up at Leicester now.

It was a great performance, but let's not completely overlook the fact that Real were very poor (beaten a couple of weeks ago by Barca 7-1) and believe we have turned a corner just yet.

It was a good game and we played well but christ, Hojlund couldn't buy a goal at the moment.

Ive been tricked by these performances before though, getting expectations up that we have turned a corner but it never lasts 2 in a row. See how we play against Leicester before i get too excited.

The scoreline, for once, tells the story, it could have been 6 or 7 with the pressure and attempts we made. Very encouraging all around, with what in essence was a 'scratch side'.

Something seem to click into place after (Bruno's) second penalty and after that we never looked like losing.

Obviously Bruno gets MOTM, but Zirkzee put in a shift once again, and his 'around the corner' touches and layoffs are at times bordering on brilliant insight. Still occasionally in defensive terms lacks concentration, allowing opponents to run past him on transition, but every game he looks to be improving and settling in.

de ligt, Dorfue, Casemiro, Mazraoui all had better than average games, but nobody let themselves down.

Onward and upward lads:+1:.

I am not sure what all the fuss with Zubamendi is, very underwhelming performance
